...or maybe angels caused them to burn, leaving all books around untouched. I can feel a JW urban legend coming on!

My wife stole my books!!!!
by dmouse ini had an interesting conversation with a jw last week, who insisted that she was not 'brainwashed' and would be prepared to look at any evidence i had that the 'truth' was not the one true truth.. so i went to my book cupboard to get my copies of 'crisis of conscience' and 'signs of the last days - when?
' in order to lend them to her.. and they are gone!!!!
i am absolutely certain they were there only a few weeks ago.. i can only assume that my jw wife (whom i'm not on the best of terms with) has taken them.

are you planning to confront her about it?
Not worth it, the last time I stood up to her by supporting my 14 year old daughter's right not to be dragged kicking and screaming to the meetings I was made to sleep on an airbed in the dining room...that was two months ago and I'm still there.
I'll be gone soon anyway, can't stand her emotional abuse and irrational behaviour anymore.

I had an interesting conversation with a JW last week, who insisted that she was not 'brainwashed' and would be prepared to look at any evidence I had that the 'TRUTH' was not the one true truth.
So I went to my book cupboard to get my copies of 'Crisis of Conscience' and 'Signs of the Last Days - When?' in order to lend them to her.
AND THEY ARE GONE!!!! I am absolutely certain they were there only a few weeks ago.
I can only assume that my JW wife (whom I'm not on the best of terms with) has taken them. I asked her if she had seen them and she denied all knowledge.
I am convinced that she has taken and disposed of them. And she is also lying about it.
I don't want to elaborate here, but she has been telling a lot of lies lately...especially about me, it seems to be becoming easier and easier for her.

On the subject of whether earthquakes have increased or not, check out the United States Geological Survey : National Earthquake Information Center's website, which answers this very question:
http://wwwneic.cr.usgs.gov/neis/general/handouts/increase_in_earthquakes.html
Then check out this recent quote from the WBTS:
Awake! March 22nd 2002 Issue: Earthquakes, Bible Prophecy, And You BEFORE his death, Jesus foretold events and situations that would give evidence that this world had entered 'the conclusion of the System or things.' That period, he said, would be marked by such things as' pestilences, food shortages, and large-scale warfare. He also mentioned 'great earthquakes' that would occur 'in one place after another.' (Matthew 24:3,7; Luke 21:10, 11) Was Jesus referring to our day? Many say no. They assert that the number of earthquakes has not substantially increased in recent decades. In fact, the U.S. National Earthquake Information Center reports that earthquakes of 7.0 magnitude' and greater remained 'fairly constant' throughout the 20th century.' Note, though, that the fulfilment of Jesus' prophecy does not require an increase in the number or power of earthquakes. All Jesus said was that there would be great earthquakes in 'one place after another.' Furthermore, he stated that these events would mark the 'beginning of pangs of distress.' (Matthew 24:8) Distress is measured; not by the number of earthquakes or how they rate on' the Richter scale, but by the effect that they have upon people. Some say that any reports of an increase in the number of earthquakes are simply due to advances in technology, which enable more seismic events to be detected.
So, even the Society now accept that the numbers of earthquakes is no longer an issue. But only because they can't carry on such a bold-faced lie now the information age is here!
On the whole I agree with Metatron - sure, like others say, there are still huge problems to overcome, but the point is most humans today live lives they couldn't have dreamt of in previous centuries. Yes, there are still many millions living in absolute squalor, but this has always been the case, it's nothing new. At least now the wealthier countries are making efforts to appease the situation. Also, I believe that the environmental problems we are facing will also be addressed eventually.
Wars? Was the 'first world war' (an arbitrary title) really unprecedented? Check out the Taiping rebellion in China (1850) which is often described as 'one of the most violent events in human history' - 20 million people killed (twice the casualty figures of WW1). But of course they were mainly Chinese, so these lives don't count do they?
Personally, I am optimistic about the future. When I have this conversation with JWs I always ask them what century previous to the 20th would they like to have been born in? Then I reel off al the problems associated with that century which makes ours look rosy by comparison.

I have.
She's an old friend of the family - on my mother's side. She and my mum have been friends since before I was born.
Madeline is an independent thinker, much to the ire of her congregation. A strong willed woman but very loyal to the 'Truth'. I've had many a stimulating conversation with her. She refuses to be cowed by the elders and recently forced an elder to admit that mistakes have been made with the handling of child-abuse cases.
I met her last night to talk about the possible new light (max 120 years 'generation' from 1914). She said that she didn't see it...BUT also admitted that herself and most of the brothers didn't catch on to the previous 'generation' change until about six months after the apostates did!
I've asked her to put out feelers regarding the Watchtower study in January when the possible new light will be discussed. She has agreed to float the idea and get opinions of the bruvas on this.
It's quite handy having a friendly JW to tap for information.

this website is having an impact
by dothemath inhello.........this is a first for me- i've been reading some of your messages for some time now, and i must say you guys study your watchtower far better than i ever did.
i'm still a part of the congregation (and an elder), but i have to say i agree with many of your criticisms of the organization.
we've become just like the pharisees that jesus condemned............at our last assembly, the do and co warned against apostate material over and over again..........so i certainly think you're having a tremendous impact on their actions.

Just to add my welcome, dothemath...
I bet you wish that people at your hall studied the Watchtower as diligently as us eh?
I know I read the mags more thoroughly now I've left than ever I did as a bruva.
Cheers,
Dean

A lovely tree...but, er, do angels breasts normally glow like that?
I was thinking of having my first Christmas tree this year (just a small one); don't think my JW wife will like it but hey, it's my house too.
