I don't know. Does Nietzsche have anything to say on the matter?

I have CoC next to the Society's 'make sure of all things' book.
It amuses me in an ironic sort of way.I have a lot of older stuff boxed in the attic. Two reasons, firstly it may prove useful in the future for showing JWs what they used to believe; and secondly I've heard too many urban legends about unwary travellers finding JW literature in trashcans and getting sucked in.
(There's such a story on page 31 of June 1st Watchtower)http://us.f1.yahoofs.com/users/8a57ee3d/bc/Misc/Trash.jpg?bcPmED9AnSy2F0lR

DO JW'S ALLOW THEIR CHILDREN TO GO ON CLASS TRIPS?
by Darkhorse inhi, have a question (i am not a jw).
is it unusual for a jw to allow their children to go on school class trips to washington d.c.?
because of their beliefs, i would think going to d.c. on a class trip would be a no-no.

I had a week in Switzerland when I was a kid.
Here in the UK school trips have never been a problem, no matter where or how long.Until now.
Schools have started issuing medical directives which parents have to sign that specifies that they have the authority to authorise blood transfusions should there be an emergency. Of course this is causing a problem for many JW parents.
It's not a problem for our kids though, my wife just gives me the forms to sign!

I just worry what sort of message is it to say young boys should approach strange men in parks.
A JW youth could read this and get himself/herself into all sorts of grief.

Stop counting time
by Elsewhere inmost jws are guilted/coerced into going into the ministry by the time requirements.
i can't help but wonder how much time the average jw would spend in the ministry work if the time requirements were dropped.. i know that the only reason i went into field service was because i didnt want the elders coming and counseling me... that was until i figured out how to use theocratic warfare on my time sheet.
any thoughts on this?.

Just to clarify, the 15 mins requirement ONLY applies to very old or sick publishers, at the discretion of the elders. For the rest it's still one hour minimum.

Ozzie's Weekend Poll
by ozziepost inwell, it's sunday and we've done reading the sunday papers, so thought it might be nice to poll the worldwide community on some important issues.
no, it's not meant to be fluff, i'm serious in inviting opinions from exdubs in many places, so please respond.
this week i've chosen the question especially for the large worldwide da/df community: what is the main reason for you not wanting to return?.

6. Other
Basically the lies that they obviously tell, especially about the signs of the times.
I can't be part of a religion that twists the facts to support it's own doctrine.

awake 4-22-02 "spider masquerades as ant&q...
by Moxy inthere is a rather fascinating article at the end of the april 22nd awake concerning a certain spider that is able to imitate an ant so convincingly that it can live among ants and escape detection.
(puzzlingly the article fails to either name the spider or indicate its native habitat.
looking up some info myself, i see that there a several species of ant-mimicing spider, especially of the genus myrmarachne.

What about the male praying mantis, which has it's head chewed off by the female while it's procreating!
God really does have a sense of humour!

One little lie spoils the whole thing....
by simwitness inone thing i remember the most about being "in the truth" was the basic premise that all other religious orgs on the earth at one time or another taught a lie (and or still was teaching lies).
this was the "crowning jewel" for the wtbs.
they never "lied".. in a recent conversation with an elder, he made mention of this again.

One of my personal favourites, perhaps because I spotted it myself when it first came out, is the lie relating to the 'generation' change.
The Society taught for decades that the 'end' would come within the lifetime of some BORN in 1914. For example:
w86 11/1 7 A Dream Reveals How Late It Is
So today, in 1986, this means that we are already 72 years into “the time of the end.” Jesus promised that some members of the generation of people old enough to witness its beginning would still be alive when the great tribulation brought it to its completion.—Matthew 24:34.
Then came the bombshell in 1995 that, actually, this wasn't the case:w95 11/1 17 A Time to Keep Awake
Bit of a shock to many long-timers! Many did not, and still don't, understand what happened. They thought that the end was coming to save their butts from a life unprepared for pension-wise.
Eager to see the end of this evil system, Jehovah’s people have at times speculated about the time when the “great tribulation” would break out, even tying this to calculations of what is the lifetime of a generation since 1914. However, we “bring a heart of wisdom in,” not by speculating about how many years or days make up a generation, but by thinking about how we “count our days” in bringing joyful praise to Jehovah. (Psalm 90:12) Rather than provide a rule for measuring time, the term “generation” as used by Jesus refers principally to contemporary people of a certain historical period, with their identifying characteristics.Anyway, the fact that now the people BORN in 1914 no longer limited the length of the last days obviously means that the end may be further away than they first thought. It's obvious isn't it?
Not so for JWs; afraid of the backlash that this new understanding would cause, due to Armageddon being cancelled due to apathy, the Society printed this bare-faced lie:
w95 11/1 20 A Time to Keep Awake
15 Does our more precise viewpoint on “this generation” mean that Armageddon is further away than we had thought? Not at all! -
