Something good at last from the WBTS!
by dmouse injust got a look at the new jw calendar for 2004.. usually it's nauseating crap about preaching the good news around the globe, or like last year's effort, about how the 'truth' changes people from axe-weilding maniacs to nice christian family men.. this year's calendar is ok though.
no comments at all about how wonderful jehovah's witnesses are, in fact no editorial at all, just reasonable quality nature photos and a snipet of scripture about the beauty of nature or god's qualities.. .
these are probably suitable for the general public too - next time the jws visit ask them for some for you to give out as christmas presents!

Well, I suppose an introduction is in order
by Enishi ini've been lurking on this site for the past two months and just now decided to post.
i was raised a witness, and got baptised only a couple years ago.
however, shortly after my baptism i started having doubts, and began to suffer from low self esteem.

Hey I have a question for you. If we chopped them like that do you think it would still cause the complications?
Hi Valis. I don't know really but I would have thought any attempt to make the KMs freely available online would attract WT sharks.
They tracked down Stephanus eventually and he had to close down the provision.
I agree with you that making the KMs freely available to view online would be a good idea, though for now your restricted but kind provision seems the best bet.
Oh, and the phrase that gets up my nose a lot lately is 'buying out the time' - it seems to be the current WT favourite.
I notice as well the demonising of computers and the Internet every chance they get.
The main message here is 'spiritual people don't do anything except attend meetings, go out in field service and study' otherwise you are letting the world distract you, and you'll die at Armageddon.

Are Baptisms Declining?
by metatron inif the statement, "4978 per week" is accurate, then:.
4978 times 52 = 258,856. .
compared with 323439 (99).

The figures for baptisms in the UK are
1999 - 2765
2000 - 2590
2001 - 2418
2002 - 2516
So far this year the trend is below that of last year.
The last assembly I went to the number of baptisms were remarkably low compared to my memories of the 80s - about a dozen men and women of all ages would get baptised at each assembly; now it's just a few arm-twisted JW kids.

Welcome to the board What The...
When I first found out the JW religion was not the 'truth' I was devastated too. But life does get better believe me.
In the long run, it's much better to be honest than live a lie I say.

Elder Kid Behaviour An Issue? 22/10/2003 Awake!
by Stephanus inin the young people ask section, the question is posed: "how can i come out from under my parents' shadow" then you get two quotes from supposed elders' kids, identified only by their first names.
one says he is only known as his elder father's son, whereas the other one feels pressure to live up to high standards being an elder's son.
the tower's response?

I think the subliminal message here is that elder's sons - the spiritual geeks, get the hotties in the congregation. Look how the attractive females are eyeing him up.
Spirituality=sexual attraction

How would you prefer the JWs to think of you, A, B, or C ?
by logansrun ini ran into my df'd, trying to get back into the dubs, uncle and my jw cousin the other day.
i was coming out of a movie theatre with my "worldly" girlfriend.
after a couple pleasantries we departed and they finished cleaning the theatre's windows .

Actually I don't think there are three options, only two - weak or wicked.
My impression is that JWs don't believe that once you are exposed to the 'truth' that you won't recognise it. Essentially you must make a decision one way or another.
You may be weak, going back to the world for whatever reason (the glamour of the world, sex, laziness, personal pride etc) or you can just decide to be wicked.
In either case you always KNOW it's the 'TRUTH' Everybody knows it's the 'truth' - some just decide they don't want the truth!
I used to be viewed as weak but after trouncing a few elders in a discussion I'm probably viewed as wicked.
