WTS: creative days took aeons - WT Feb 15th, 2011

there's already a couple of threads discussing this particular issue of kool-aid version of the wt, but i just had to start another after reading about the creative days mentioned in this issue.. we debate from time to time if the wts has ever officially retracted their doctrine that the earth and all things created are less than 50,000 years old.

there's been some quotes that show them waffling on the age of the planet itself but still sort of holding to the notion of all creation happening within a defineable 7 day period.

how long is a creative day?

Looks like they are hedging their bets (having it both ways) These are not 24-hour days but are epochs.

Throwing a wet blanket on 2034

on a few occasions i've heard suggestions of 2034 as the "date", since it is 120 years after 1914; just like noah's time.. it looks to me like the governing body is being pro-active in preventing this in becoming a date that is speculated on.. the dec 15, 2010 wt (printed version) has an interesting qfr, asking if noah had knowledge of the 120 years.

the answer was: noah didn't know about the 120 year time period, but that didn't matter to him because he knew it was coming and kept busy.

i don't currently have the printed copy handy but can post a few quotes from it later on (unless someone else has it handy).. just thought it was interesting.

In any case, Noah didn't know about the 120 years, but WE do, and as the December 15th Watchtower, 2003, says:

9.Jehovah has kept these warnings in front of his people by means of timely reminders through the spiritual food provided by the faithful and discrete slave.

21.Although the Flood seems remote from our day, it clearly provides a warning that we must not ignore.

Toilet quandries: The seat: Up/Down and Toilet paper direction

those who have lived with the opposite sex know of the frustration of being lectured about some triviality.. the toilet seat/paper controversy is among the most inflammatory.. men who forget to put the toilet seat back down inspire anger, rage, resentment and the stern lecture.. the easiest solution is to train the man to always sit down when he goes.. .

others argue over the direction of the toilet paper: forward overlap or backward underlap.. .

how do you deal with these issues and how violent do you become?.

Honestly, women are so arrogant, they demand MEN put the seat down for THEM when we are finished, but won't do the same for us!

It's really annoying when I have to lift the seat up every time I want to pee. Why can't women learn to leave it up when they're finished?

i believe that most dubs remain because of the investment they have made to the "truth".

as soon as men become a ms or an elder they have bought in and can no longer express any doubts felt.

then promotion through full time "service" means an increase in authority over those below and control by those above.

The Governing Body are the ONLY people in the religion who can alter doctrine when things don't go according to plan (i.e. the ever elusive 'End')

They HAVE to be able to think the 'unthinkable' in order to be able to put a spin on things to keep their power base from slipping away.

To do this as cynically as they do, I tend to believe they are as clued up as we are that the whole thing is hokum.

They are the ultimate con-artists.
