If you haven't seen it yet, watch ' The invention of lying' , it is a comedy, but there is a lot of truth in it. It makes the point that people need something to bebelieve in sometimes, even if is made up. All beliefs systems are some man's idea of what God is. It doesn't mean having a belief system is bad, but you have to keep it in perspective.

Flip-flopping all over the place
by confusedteenager inone minute i'm believing completely in god and in jesus christ, and in the next instance i'm questioning all religious systems in general.
i think i'm just lacking faith, but then in the back of my head i'm wondering if i've just been so indoctrinated and deluded...that i can't imagine living without considering that there is a god to be worshiped, or that i need to worship god in order to be happy.
i don't know how full-blown atheists or full blown christians do it either way.

Upsides of getting old: Reruns, who cares? Halfway through You figure out you've seen it before, but you keep watching, because you forgot who done it. The senior discount at the thrift store. Grandkids; you can get take them to Chuck E Cheese, spend $20 on bad pizza, let them play every game in the place, get them spun up on soda and take them back to their parents, cranky, tired and dirty.

I lived in Colorado for 10 years, moved back to CA 2 years ago. I lived in Aurora 2 years, the rest of the time in Castle Rock. One great thing about Colorado is, hardly any JWs. I've had more at my door here in 2 years than I had the whole 10 years in Colorado.

I left 12 years ago. I had been struggling for years, mostly just attending the Sunday meetings, due to health problems and being discouaged. I had virtually no friends at the hall, a disfellowshipped husband, neither of my children were interested. I was lonely. I was in a bad marriage, and I had decided I had to leave, my mental and physical health were suffering. At first I thought I would stay in the religion, but one day I had an aha moment. I realized I had stayedbecause the Watchtower said it was ALWAYS better to stay married, no matter what. I realized that that was bad advice, that we would have been better off if I had left years ago. That epiphany was the what I needed to break free. I left my loser husband and the religion and I am so glad I did. I am happily married now and my life is great, I have never regreted my decision, never.
If you are struggling with this decision, to stay or go, realize that there is life after leaving. It is hard at first, being in this religion has altered your thinking in ways that is hard for you to know right now and they do not make it easy to leave. Know that it gets better and better, and you can have a great life. I was a JW for over 30 years, It is never too late.

Some fairly alarming medical news in Discovery magazine - Nov. 2010 issue:
by james_woods inexpose article on dangers and misrepresentations of a number of new drugs - some points made:.
1) - according to an agency for healthcare research and quality report in 2001, more than 770,000 americans die each year from drug complications.. 2) - care patients don't need of failing to give care that is necessary accounts for an estimated 30% of the annual health care budget - more than 2.4 trillion dollars per year.. 3) - avandia, the diabetes drug made by glaxosmithkline was subject to 42 studies and a 2007 report by dr. steven nissen which showed it plainly increased chances of heart attack and death.
the u.s. senate committee on finance says the company knew about the cardiac side effects for several years before this report was published.. 4) - in 2002 jama published results of a huge study, called the antihypertensive and lipid-lowering treatment to prevent heart attack, or allhat, which showed that inexpensive generic drugs such as diuretics were just as effective as name brand drugs for controlling blood pressure.

I had a horrible experience with the drug Cymbalta. It caused me to have suicidal thought and made me aggressive and irritable. Getting off of it was a four month nightmare. I believe the drug company, Lilly does not adequately warn patients of the side effects. It causes irreversible changes to your brain in only a few months. Bottom line, do your research before taking any drug, goggle your dug + side effects, read discussion boards. This drug is heavily advertised, obviously making a lot of money for Lilly.

by SkyGreen inwow it felt good to type that heading, if only it were officially true!.

but i will certainly keep an eye on this forum, contribute where i feel i can, and i must say thankyou to those who moderate it and keep it running.

SKYGREEN:
Think about this… if it is the truth and Armageddon came tomorrow, what about that beautiful baby girl my neighbor just gave birth to…. Does she deserve to die? Would Jehovah kill her just because her parents weren’t interested in listening to yet another religion? If that’s the case, he is not a god I would want to serve for eternity.
LISA ROSE: One of my aha moments was when my JW mother said it was too bad her grandson and his wife had just had a new baby, because it was just going to die at Armageddon soon. I was speechless, how could the birth of a baby be anything but a joy? I guess I never had that level of certainty in the religion that I could even think something like that.

How many went from christian to something else?
by Satanus ini noticed some posters who used to argue along christian lines, but don't do so, anymore.
granted, it's a tough line to keep to on this forum.
i would be interested to hear (read) of people who came here as believers, and then transitioned to unbeliever, and the reasons for that.

I have been out 12 years. When I first left I still believed in God, but I was anti religion. After about 6 years I became Agnostic. I am currently coming around to idea of belief in God, it is not based on logic, but I think science and logic can only take you so far. I just like to think there is something more out there. I am thinking of joining a faith based community. I feel most comfortable with Christianity, so I am looking into it. It would have to be a very liberal church, I can't believe in hell fire.
