I've just been disfellowshipped!
by maksutov inapparently it was announced last night.
i was not informed (for 'legal reasons'), but they phoned my dad and told him.
i understand it is due to my apostate book.

Good for you for speaking out, too bad you may lose family because of it. I think people like you are making it harder and harder for the organization to enforce shunning. Unlike those who might have been disfellowshipped in the past, you know you haven't done anything wrong and you refuse to slink off with your tail between your legs.
I think lot of JWs know it's ridiculous to shun someone for simply leaving a religion, so it's going to be harder and harder to enforce shunning, especially in families. This will make it harder to keep people in ignorance of the Watchtower's many lies and false predictions.
The bible verses used to defend the Watchtower's harsh shunning practices only says to quit mixing in company with anyone "called a brother" who does immoral things. You are not calling yourself a brother, nor are you immoral, so why do they need to shun you? There were disagreements in the early Christian congregations, so what is the justification for shunning someone over a difference in interpretation of the scriptures? This practice is not biblically based but is simply designed to protect the Watchtower.

Seeking support during confusing and stressful 'cognitive dissonance'
by LHS123 insorry for the long post but i need help.
ive been a jw for 20 years - still active and attending meetings, baptised at 18, i have recently become very dissillusioned.
a few reasons: ill treatment of my kids by a prominent 'assembly speaker' elder, then my son left the truth at 15 (not baptised) and was 'dropped' instantly, despite this community having been his whole life for 15 years.

I think a break sounds like a good idea right now. It's a lot to take in, isn't it? It will take time, but it's worth it.
As far as apostate literature, I never understood why the Watch tower was so afraid of differing viewpoints. Truth should stand up to scrutiny, right? Now I know why they were so afraid, they don't have the truth and so much of the beliefs just don't stand up.
Just remember than things are not true because we want them to be, or need them to be, or we invested our time, or missed opportunities. I was in for thirty two years from thirteen to forty five. It was hard to start over, but now I am glad I did.

Yawn. Either troll or one of the people who choose to remain in ignorance. Rather than believe the thousands of scientists who know evolution to be true, they quote the few crackpots in the field who are just as ignorant as they are.
It's depressing. If you want to read something even more depressing, read these posts from Nasa's Facebook page.

Thank you for redirecting me to the right organization!
by economy inthank you, jw.net and cofty, for redirecting me to the right organization!.
when i posted why did god permit scriptures to be corrupted?
then i thought, if there is an organization that believes all scriptures are corrupted (which obviously makes it enemy of all religions), that organization is not ordinary, but gutsy, lionhearted, and worthy of close examination!

You are trying to convince us your new cult is better than your old cult?
You ever heard the expression, fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me?

I'm my favorite type of JW - Double Life
by thedepressedsoul inthe borg's tactics on most jw work.
they put fear into their mind, they guilt trip them and basically make them scared to do anything when they are away from the kingdom hall.
it allows them to control every aspect of their life.

I would question how much good you are doing yourself or anyone else. It's great to plant seds of doubt, but if you can't water and cultivate them (which would expose your apostasy) those seeds will not grow. In the mean time you are going along with a lie and contributing in many ways to the organization you claim to hate.
In the mean time you are living a life that is not in keeping with your values. You are used to it and think it all doesn't affect you, but trust me, you are paying a price, a fact which will be brought home to you once you really leave and see what you were missing. I know because I stayed far too long, I wasted years, the best years of my life really. I am much happier and living a great life now, but it makes me a little sad to think what my life could have been.
It's your life, you obviously will chart your own path, actually I admire your independent spirit, but I wanted to give you something to think upon.

I printed off a number of those pictures with the price of that watch included and highlighted, folded them neatly, then dropped them in the collection boxes as my "donation"
Lol, wish I could have been there when the envelope was opened. Well played.

Mummy Dear Lies at Assemblies
by Tempest in a Teacup inmy zealously fanatic jw mum is aware of my current "tourist-jw" life.
what she doesn't know for sure is that she's part of the ones who brought me to this.. my mum was a quite moderate jw, she even got publically reproved once.
in our house, there was no daily text, no family study, no eating together, no preaching together, no watchtower study...even though she regularly checked my wt to see if i studied it.. being a single mother, she had a quite busy work schedule, so from the moment she woke up to the moment she went to bed, you'd better not waste a single minute of her time needlessly.

I was a working mom too, not single but my husband was disfellowshipped, plus couldn't keep a job. I once sat down and calculated it out; with my job, cooking, cleaning and the meetings, study, service, etc. , if I did everything I was supposed to do I would have five hours a week to call my own. I sort of gave up at that point, I realized I didn't have it in me to do it all.
I used to feel guilty that I didn't have a regular family study, while many of my friends were much more disciplined. I thought their children would stay "in the truth" while mine might not, but what happened was that most of those children didn't actually stay either.
In seemed to me that those children were either religiously inclined or not and the parents had limited influence no matter what they did. This religions is all or nothing, if you don't attend meetings and go in field service, you don't count, and many people just aren't going to do all that, which is probably why they have such a low retention rate.
