How low can they go?
by John Aquila inhow low can they go?.
if i remember correctly, this is the lowest number of gb members the wt has had since the gb arrangement started.
they dont seem to be in any hurry to appoint any new gb members.

Possibly they don't have any qualified potential candidates, and by qualified I mean being willing to go along with the hypocrisy, lies and shaking down the rank and file for any every dollar they can get. -

Am I the only "witness here besides the admins?
by TheOnlyRealWittnessHere inwith all the negativity here i was wondering if i am the only one here that's a witness.
.
the topic pretty much says everything..

In response to the onlytruewitness, no you are not the only witness here, but you may be the only one who still believe the governing body is the faithful and discrete slave and God's sole channel of communication with mankind.
As for me, I was a JW for thirty years, but realized the Watchtower was no different from any other religion that presumed to speak for God. My question to you is this: Why do you believe the predictions of an organization that has a 100% failure rate on date predictions? 1897, 1914, 1925, 1975 and other dates have been wrongly predicted to be the end by the Watchtower, so why do you believe them now?

Do you mean status?
Matthew 6
“Beware of practicing your righteousness before other people in order to be seen by them, for then you will have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. “Thus, when you give to the needy, sound no trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may be praised by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father who sees in secret will reward you. “And when you pray, you must not be like the hypocrites. For they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and at the street corners, that they may be seen by others. Truly, I say to you, they have received their reward. ...

OMG once and for all, whats this idea of a three fold prophesy??
by sowhatnow inwell it happened again, i got annoyed at my mom telling me all about the co visit , and i couldn't help myself, i said' oh god mom its like the pope is visiting, all that info can be told with the regular elders you don't need 'special' people .. subjects ensue,.
she says 'your misled, your so wrong, no one else on the planet has the beliefs that we do, we are the only ones with the truth, i dont follow men, bla bla.. , 40 minuets... , misquotes all over the place, isaiah this and that, yada yada ' j"vah has to have an earthy organization to give us the proper food, bla bla.
i say ' no jesus is gods mediator, we don't need men and were told not to listen to men for they are imperfect.

I find that you can't tell a JW anything, they think they are right and everyone else is wrong and logic means nothing. Next time ask her to explain the three fold prophecy. I doubt she will be able to, and if she does, don't point out the obvious logical fallacies, just say you don't understand xyz, ask her to explain further. The average JW has only a cursory understanding of their beliefs and once you get past that they are lost.
But you still won't get anywhere, she will probably just shut down and get mad at you.
I suggest talking about the weather.

All you have, all anyone has, even JWs, is this moment you are in right now. That's it. Yesterday is gone, tomorrow may never be no matter what you believe. Make this moment in your life count, and everyone after that and at the end of your life it will be enough, because you didn't waste them.
Or would you rather put off all your hopes, plans and dreams on the fantasy of petting pandas? That's is not going to happen, so pretending won't make it so.

Witnesses Preach to Dog
by snugglebunny in"in el salvador, one man tied his vicious dog in front of the door whenever he saw jehovahs witnesses nearby.
the man would wait for the witnesses to move on, and then he would bring the dog back into the house.
the brothers were never able to speak to the man.

I love those JW urban legends. It probably was originally a born again Christian tall tale. You never read these things in the Watchtower, only word of mouth or at the conventions which is a pretty good indication they are pure BS.
See also: the thief who hid under the bed who heard a bible reading and later converted, and the maniac who didn't kill the JW because he saw two big men standing next to her even though she was alone.

Sorry, But Your Sad Story Doesn't Make Me Feel Better. Is it supposed to?
by Tempest in a Teacup ini have very recently come out of a bout of severe depression which lasted for years.
i have ginormous underlying issues which i hardly talk about, especially to my family.. today my sister came in, wanting to force me to do something she wanted.
her strategy was to make me feel bad for feeling bad, just to show me that my problem (which she has no idea of but thinks she does) wasn't the biggest in the world.

I am so sorry, I have depression issues too, so I get it. People who don't suffer from depression sometimes think you are feeling sorry for yourself, or just need to buck up, or take a pill or something. It's just impossible for them to understand how much this affects your life in every way and sometimes every waking moment.
The last thing you need is for someone to tell you about somebody else problems with depression, you have enough to deal with, you don't need that. I am sure they mean well, but it's just not helpful. It's OK to stop them and say you aren't up to hearing about any one else's problems right now.

why did man go from living 900 years to 90?
by sowhatnow ini cant recall the scripture, where it says than only a few men will he live to be 80 years or so, can anyone recall that?.
so then im wondering, if it is a fact that men lived long years 900 in some cases, for what reason would god limit our lifespan if our time is so short compared to his?.
how on earth does man go from living 8 and 9 hundred years down to 80 to 100 ?.

The bible stories are simply our ancestor's version of modern urban legends, stories passed around by word of mouth and embellished or changed each time. At some point they were written down and became sacred truth.
The stories are no more true than the ones about people waking up in a bath of ice missing a kidney, or the lady killed by spiders nesting in their hair, or the Mexican dog that turned out to be a rat.

"Evidence" of a "smokelike pall"... This was the last straw for me back in 2008. Fade began with this:
by DarioKehl infrom that nutty red book of insanity, the grand climax at hand book, chapter 22, paragraphs 7 & 8. .
i had my doubts since childhood.
i went along with it to please people.

Even as a newly minted dub I found the books on revelation to be a hard slog. I assumed it was because I just wasn't spiritual enough, but as it turns out, it was simply that it was just a lot of incomprehensible blather. I'm pretty sure the clergy of Christendom didn't give a fig about Rutherford and his loyal band of drunkards. But as they say, if you can't dazzle them with brilliance, baffle them with bull poop.
The most interesting thing about that book was the title, and who would have thought a book with the word "climax" in the title would be so painfully boring?

In the late early seventies my parents earnestly predicted my niece would never go to kindergarten, we would all be in the new system by then petting lions, of course they believed they would never die.
My parents have passed away, my niece is in her forties, no sign of Armageddon, but the ridiculous predictions go one. Each generation thinks they have it the worst, the world cannot keep going on as it does, something has to happen.
My parents didn't know about all the earlier predictions that hadn't come true, they thought their time was unique, things were bad and must end soon. They died waiting for that paradise.
