I would just say that you appreciate his concern but are quite happy as you are.
There's not much you could say that would ever get through to him, so why waste time on a response.
so an old friend of mine from the congregation hit me up today.
the story goes like this when we were jw's:.
- this guy used to be madly in love with me but i didn't see him as anything more than a friend.
I would just say that you appreciate his concern but are quite happy as you are.
There's not much you could say that would ever get through to him, so why waste time on a response.
during the talk today, the speaker said, in reference to apostates, "don't make mountains out of molehills" and "all those who are do good to look up isaiah 43:18.
" to save you trouble, it says: "do not remember the former things, and do not dwell on the past.".
i'd like to see him read that scripture to the victims of the hundreds and hundreds of abuse cases the arc has unveiled from over the past 50 years.
Pot, meet Kettle. The Watchtower has elevated nit picking to an art form while ignoring huge issues of their own. For example:
They didn't allow JWs in Zambia to buy .25 political card, resulting in horrible persecution and deaths, yet joined the United Nations, an organization they taught was the scarlet colored beast from Revelation.
They criticize churches for passing a collection plate while at the same time routinely manipulatng circuit convention account reports to make it falsely appear they have deficit.
They condemn other Christian religions for what they consider false teachings while ignoring the fact that they flip flop on their own doctrines on a regular basis.
does anybody here acknowledge the passing of frank sinatra jr.?
at the young age of 72 ?
o.k.i`m slightly older .. however i`m surprised that nobody has mentioned this to date.
It must have been hard living in the shadow of a man like Frank Sinatra. I guess people aren't as affected by his death because he didn't achieve fame in his own right. He was apparently a very good singer and did a great job interpreting his father's catalog, but I never heard him sing, so it's hard to feel much of anything over his passing, other than the sadness that anyone died.

social media is saying that this individual was a jehovah's witness.
can someone from the southern california area confirm this.
my belief is that the jw organization is moving towards video teaching.
at the last convention a mini jesus movie was created.
today watching the jw video on 'older ones' is the famous widow in the temple scene with the same actor for jesus.. are they slowly and carefully making a jesus movie?.
I think you are right. I have been out a long time but from what I read here it may be due to the generally poor quality of elders that are becoming the norm. As the internet has become common, possibly many of the better educated JWs are waking up and leaving? At the same time they seem to be having a harder time motivating young men to reach out to be elders. Possibly with wages being not as good as they used to be, even good elders are having to work more to pay the bills so they might not have as much time to prepare talks. Many have said that the overall quality of the meetings are starting to deteriorate.
Maybe they think videos will be more effective in motivating people and making sure they get their message across. If you have a poor speaker you are more likely to not pay attention, while a video has more impact.
english is a great language, especially when it comes to collective nouns.
a "murder" of crows is just fantastic as is a "mob" of meerkats.
a "colony" of ants, a "pride" of lions.
A smug of pioneers
An arrogance of elders
A haughty of elderesses
A gossip of publishers
A humble of single sisters
A superciliouous of circuit overseers
A depression of disfellowshipped
A self importance of governing body members.
why must these people be figurative walls when talking about the lies of the jw cult?.
the other day, i had a conversation with my mother.
we started talking about the election and how the candidates differ (me being a supporter of bernie).
You will never win an argument with a cult member because to admit you were right on any point will be to admit they are wrong in everything, their entire belief system and way of life. The stakes are just way too high, so she will never give you any ground.
Just a suggestion, If you get a chance to talk to her again you migh try first establishing some raphor on something you know to be an issue for her, then asking questions designed to get her to open up about her issues or doubts.
so my handle has a typo, it is supposed to be never allowed to be myself but i'm okay with that because it is kind of symbolic of my situation.
as a born-in i have always had expectations forced on me, this is what you are to think, feel and do as a jehovah's witness.
my earliest memories involve being upset that i would die at armageddon because i was bad.
Good for you for knowing that you must learn how to be yourself. I am sure many people go through life never knowing who they are or what they want in life, they have so buried their true nature they don't even know it exists. It's not an easy path if you have been doing only what others expect of you, but it can be done if you are willing to put in the time and effort and the rewards are great.
I highly recommend two things for excavating your authentic self, meditation and journaling. Writing three pages in a journal every day is useful to start picking up the threads. No filters, do not edit, just write down any thing that comes to you, what is important is that you write, not what you write. You can burn the paper when you are done if you feel someone finding it might be a problem, it's the exercise of writing that is important. You are looking for some common threads, bits and pieces of your real self that will poke through here and there. Eventually you will start to see a pattern, focus on that and work with it.
Meditation has proven benefits, it's known to reduce blood pressure and stress and relieve depression. It takes only a few minutes a day, and is not hard. It does take practice, so keep at it every day.
At first it will be difficult, you will experience difficult emotions and it will not be easy, but keep at it and it will get easier with time.

i've been lurking for about 3 months now and thought i'd better finally sign up.
you have all been an immense help to me as i have come to realize that this isn't the truth so i want to say a great big thank you!
what a crazy, emotional ride it is to finally face the truth about the doubts that i have carried for many years.
My mum freaks out, starts screaming and looking at me like I’m Satan’s spawn and runs down stairs – screaming all the way – and locks herself in the car. I haven’t seen her since. It’s been six months.
I know this is tragic, am I am sure it was horrible at the time, but this just kind of made me laugh, your parents are very, very strange. It would almost be impossible for someone who is not a JW to believe people actually act this way. Sadly we all know how this belief system warps people's thinking. Everything is black and white, life and death.
as a born-in jw, i never considered myself to be a fundamentalist.
i always thought we were enlightened, progressive and not 'stuck in darkness' like all the other religions.. i was totally wrong.. as far as fundamentalists go, jw's are probably right up there amongst the front-runners.
no, they do not stone people to death or go on religion-fuelled violent rampages but that's not what i'm talking about.
I think you should be proud of yourself. Instead of continuing to live in ignorance you had the courage to examine your beliefs and adjust your thinking when you realized you were wrong. This puts you in the minority of mankind, in my opinion. So many people pick a position and then defend it no matter what facts are available. It's not just the JWs or fundamentalists, it's people on both sides of the political spectrum. So much of the current gridlock in politics is because people cannot look / at the facts without prejudice, they just keep insisting they are right and anyone who believes different is an idiot.
