That's too bad. Never give up advocating for your children, this is too important. Think of it as a war, not a battle.

I have been away for while, but I suspect you will be disfellowshipped if it comes out that you married a disfellowshipped person. It depends on the elders involved and how much or what you choose to tell them.
I see no upside to you going to the elders. You know in your heart you have done nothing wrong, a judicial committee will cause nothing but harm.

At a regional convention today....
by Nobodyspecial init really stands out to me just how phoney the bonds of forced brotherhood are.
the smiles are paper thin when they see each other in hotels.
the laughs forced.

I vividly remember my last circuit assembly, as it was the loneliest I have ever felt. I realized I had nothing in common with anyone, no connection, nothing. People are made to be social, but not like that.

You do a lot of good here Cofty. I already believed in evolution before I found JWN, but I have learned a lot more about it from you and others here. There is as much evidence for evolution as there is for the fact that the earth revolves around the sun. You can continue to insist that the sun revolves around the earth, because that is the way it appears to you, but you would be foolish, and believing in creationism is just as foolish.

Why have there been so many people blind to the corruption of the Watchtower Corporation ?
by Finkelstein inbased from many of the doctrines the wts has come forth with since its existence as publishing house which were obviously incorrect or false and propagated doesn't make you wonder why there were so many who embraced this organization with full devotion and acceptance ?
even back in the late 1800's there was scrutinizing skepticism to what the leaders of the wts theologically taught.
millions of people since then have accepted the teachings of a really couple novice bible theologians, who brought forth many weakly supported doctrines such as and concerning that mankind was living in the end times and all of mankind should be prepared for its imminent destruction.. very view other christian based faiths from catholicism or protestantism have made these kind of outlandish doctrinal assertions and they make up an overwhelming greater amount of practicing theologians, to those who achieved a high a level of academic training in bible theory.

It's a cult. They are masters at manipulating people and conditioning them not to question their authority and not to believe anything negative, especially if it's coming from a former member.

What should I do?
by Tameria2001 inhello everyone, it's been quite a while since i was last on this forum.

Wow, that is rude. Since it is the JWs who have a problem with you, they should be the ones to have to leave early. Why should they cater to them because they made a stink last time? It's like they are being rewarded for being A$$holes.
Personally I wouldn't bother going, but if you really want to see the family then go and enjoy the time you have and then go off and do something else really fun. Be sure and mention your plans (fancy restruant, great concert, great movie) as they say, living well is the best revenge.

Need Suggestions/examples: Guide to helping family & friends break free
by LisaRose ini was going through my copy of steve hassan's combating cult mind control and it occurred to me that it would be great to have something like this specifically for us ex jehovah's witnesses.
while this is a great book, the examples he uses are mostly from people that were moonies, as steve is a former moonie and many people that have contacted him for help were relatives of moonies.
while cults all work basically the same, it would be nice to be have some ideas on things that are specific to jehovah's witnesses.

When Steve Hassan talks about the cult persona, he means the facade people put on to fit into the cult. As we know, JWs do bad things all the time, they are no better than anyone else.
For example, a person may be a typical JW, clean cut, says he love field service, and watches only PG movies. In reality that guy might really like hard rock and secretly would love to get a tattoo and ride a Harley. He might even do some of those things in secret, but his true personality is not acceptable in the cult.

Sorry about #3, I I condensed two points into one and forgot to re number them. This is just a first draft, I hope to get lots of input from others and work that into a more comprehensive guide.
Keep the ideas coming, I need all the help I can get.
Good point Londo, I am sure it's much more difficult with the multigenerational JW families. I would not even attempt this with my two JW siblings as I don't think it would be successful and even if it was it would probably not improve their lives, as they have so many children and grandchildren still in. Sometimes you just have to accept things as they are.
Frankly the odds aren't too good with any average JW, but many people feel they have to give it a try, every situation is different. I see so many that jump into it with their family only to make things worse, so I would like to get something out there for those people that want to give it a try. I know some people have done it, so I want to find out what worked and what didn't.
