Welcome to the forum! I know what it is like to have health problems and have everyone think you are just weak. There was no love or empathy in the congregations, so sad.
Good for you for a successful escape.
i've finally got round to joining the site (after over 2 years lurking!
i was born into jws, pioneered for 10 years (met my husband at pioneer school).
had health issues that saw me catapulted away from 'the centre of the cong' and wow what a different place that was!

i've been fading for about 9 months.
the elders know exactly why.
i received a phone call a couple of days ago.
I am soooo proud of you. It's very hard to stand up to elders as you did, you have been taught to obey the organization and the elders as if they are God, to be able to speak truth to power in this situation is remarkable.
Maybe you planted a seed, but if not you gave them every chance to see the lies they are defending. If a person chooses to close their eyes to an uncomfortable reality there is nothing you can do for them.

at our recent rc i was advised by a sister who was an attendant that they have been advised not to be able to give brothers directions as this should be dealt with by the brothers.
apparently at the pre-convention attendants meeting, the sisters were asked to stay behind.
this was when they were given the news that the brothers should deal with brothers.
it seems that as ex jw's, we have a harder time with ttatt then other religions.
is that just because we claim to only use the bible unlike mormons?
is it because they like no other religion keep claiming to be jehovah's organization?
No, its not becauase they use the bible, its because the use cult mind control. This has affected you more than you can know while still in or shortly after leaving, it takes a while for it to weat off completely. The Watchtower taught us to doubt our own thoughts and desires, to fear armageddon, to fear leaving them, to fear apostates, worldly people, etc. Even after you learn ttatt it can still be affecting you.
i knew apostasy was a serious concern for the org, but until i watched this video, i had no idea how afraid they actually were.
all this guy wants is to do is not turn in his fs hours and immediately they (elders) set about drilling him about who are what influenced his decision, as if he was incapable of making his own (which as the elders confirm, in the org is highly discouraged).
they are convinced he has been communicating with apostates or visiting apostate web sites.
Do you really think that the wts is concerned about anything at all? I doubt it. First of all the wts believes that God is leading them and backing them up.
If they are not concerned with apostates, why do they call them "mentally diseased? And why did they warn the congregations that they will soon hear things in the media that are "apostate lies"? And if the reports in the media are apostate lies, then was there no Royal commission in Australia? Was that not pope Jackson who testified? Do you honestly think they don't care that they have the worst retention rate of any religion? If they aren't worried they are completely incompetent.
When things are good and there is growth, it means the work is is being blessed.
Growth is at a standstill, no more than population growth. I guess Jehovah's is not blessing them right now, how sad. Maybe he heard about the child abuse lawsuits.
When there is persecution or apostasy, it means that Satan is busy and the end is getting closer.
How close? The Watchtower has been whining about persecution for 100 years, so what makes things any different now? I wasn't supposed to have time for a career in this system of things, that was 45 years ago, I'm retired, but the end is still sooooo close? How can you be that gullible? The Watchtower hasn't been right on any prediction so far, how could you possibly still believe them?
But whatever the case, the wts believes that God is handling it. So, they are not concerned at all; they do what they can and leave in God's hands.
If they are not worried, why the sudden sell off of property? Why the cash grab from the congregations? Why are they slashing expenses and getting rid of people? Do you honestly think they are not worried about the numerous child sex abuse lawsuits they have lost or that are in the works?
. The new generation gb (not charismatic) is challenging for some JW. --Nevertheless all JW believe that God is leading the org.
Challenging? They are all narcissists that believe they speak for God except Lett, who is just a big fat embarrassment.
i can imagine those of you who have a spouse that is not awake and how hard it must be.
i have a 90 year old mom who is a jw and still puts in 12 hrs a month in field service.
the brothers and sisters are always picking her up for conventions, meetings and memorials and as much as i try to avoid them, there are times when i just cant.
The bible says that nothing should be added to the things written, but that doesn't stop them from making up all kinds of rules not in the bible. It's not that fractions are wrong, its that there is nothing wrong with taking blood in the first place. This splitting hairs is just their attempt to get out ofan embarrassing doctrine they won't admit was wrong in the first place.
Also not in the bible:
Judicial committees
A governing body
Field service reports
Telling people how to spend their time
Not watching R rated movies
No eating birthday cake
A specific number of hours in meetings
No higher education
And on and on and on. The Watchtower has made up all these rules when there is nothing in the bible that justifies this kind of micromanaging of people's lives. They make a few things a conscience matter to give the illusion of people having control over their lives, but then give the distinct impression people are really better off just not doing the thing. They have created a whole group of people can't think for themselves.
They are so concerned with obsessing over peoples sex lives and making sure they don't have any free time they have completely lost the meaning of what being a Christian is. If they believe Jesus died for our sins, why are they so obsessed with rules? Jesus said that you will know who are Christ's disciples because they have love among themselves, something that is completely lacking in most congregations. Instead they have a group of people trained to judge each other over every little matter.
so we all know how ineffectual the preaching work really is.
we also know how much the wts hypes up the scope and scale of the global preaching effort.
what the gb should be doing however is emphasising the ineffectiveness of the preaching work.
Yes, it was much more doom and gloom back in the day. I think there was a lot more fear of war in general. 1965 was only twenty years after WW2. Their was Vietnam, Cambodia, and the cold war between the U.S. and Russia. If you haven't seen Dr. Strangelove, it's not only a brilliant comedy but a commentary on people's fear of communism and the possibility of a nuclear war. The Watchtower certainly played on those fears.
It's not like we don't have war now, but I think the fear of a global conflagration is much less these days, so they just can't play on people's fears as much as they used to be able to. Obviously they have to change tactics. "The world s going to hell in a handbasket" thing just doesn't work. Now it's "things are peaceful, it must be a bad sign, be afraid, be very afraid". This isn't going to work with the public, they are just trying to keep the faithful in line.
so when i was at luch today, my wife was in full cult mode.
she started in on me about us not being able to hang with other witnesses and when i go to the meetings with her that i don't talk with nobody nor pay attention and act angry.
i told her that i don't want to fight and i have better things to do than argue.
I agree with Scully, you have win her over, you are in competition with the religion.
We women are suckers for romance, use that fact. I will tell you the most romantic thing my husband ever told me. It's been years and I still remember it. We were being romantic, if you get my drift, and he stopped and looked deep into my eyes and said "I think you are beautiful, but I am making love to the woman you are on the inside".
All is fair in love and war.
ok we all say stupid things (probably on a daily basis in my case) but my mother (a jw) was told by another member that she doesn't have a conscience because anyone who smiles as much as she does simply can't have a conscience.
i bet you can guess the person who said it to her has a face like a wet weekend.. i guess the reasoning is: if you had a conscience you wouldn't have much to smile about because you'd be overwhelmed with guilt and worry.
what a load of old bollox that cult is eh?.
That person is probably just jealous your mom is happy and she is not. Your mother should quote the scripture that says Jehovah is a happy God and the one that says "happy are the ones doing the will of Jehovah". She should say that if she is not joyful it would mean she isn't being blessed by Jehovah. The best defence is a good offence.
There are people like that wherever you go, but the JWs do seem to attract more than their fair share of them. I call them fun sponges, they soak up all the fun wherever they go.
so we all know how ineffectual the preaching work really is.

A lot of war = The end
No wars = The end
This is just wishful thinking on their part. They can see their is no urgency to the preaching work on the part of the rank and file, and that is costing them money because no placements, no donations. They are trying to do anything they can to motivate people but they are like the boy who cried wolf, people have heard ot all before, it gets harder and harder to get people scared.
And I dont buy it that people will go flocking into the religion if conditions are bad enough. Most people dont know what they teach anyway.
