The idea that Mother Teresa was not the paragon of virtue that people believed her to be is not new to me. She was a marketable product, packaged and promoted like any other product.

What's your passion???
by Faith after Deception inyesterday, i was feeling very blue.
this is quite unusual for me, as i tend to be quite an upbeat, positive person, so spells of sadness or depression take me by surprise and are a real shock to the system.
you know, i don’t believe in “putting on a face” or pretending to be ok; this “fake it ’til you make it” malarkey has never been something i’ve liked.

My passion is Junk! I have space at an antique mall, and buy and sell all things vintage, but I especially love to take old junk and find a way to make it useful and beautiful again. I make vintage style signs from reclaimed wood, fix up and paint old furniture and also sew and and do flowers and collage art. I love going to garage sales, flea markets and estate sales to look for things I can use and I love being in my workshop painting and fixing. I don't know why this works for me, but I do know I feel my best when I am doing it.
I find it so sad that the Watchtower makes people feel that it is somehow wrong or disloyal to feel passion for anything other than the preaching work. Giving up something you love out of obligation and guilt is not a path to a fulfilling and happy life.

Single Sisters Over A Certain Age Group Getting A Bad Rap
by HiddlesWife ini'm new here; one of my relatives was a member on this forum a few years ago and told me about it.
anyways, as a sister who has been in the org since childhood and now in her late 40's (plus as a woman of color), i have noticed that a number of brothers have an ageist attitude.
they are very accepting of young women under 26 and rejecting women over that age, particularly those in their 30's and over.. is this an unspoken mindset from wthq (specifically from bethel), or is it that quite a number of males (sorry, i'm not sexist here) have this type of mentality?

This is not an organization that values women, so it's not surprising that they are not treated well. The only acceptable function as a woman is as a mother, wife or Pioneer, if you are not doing any of these things then they have no use for you at all, you might as well be invisible. That's what happens when women are marginalized and not allowed to contribute, it's such a waste.
I attended a church for a few months and it was such an eye opener that not every religion is this way. The church had a woman pastor, and many of the deacons were women also. What a difference it made when every person was allowed to contribute, it was clear everyone felt valued and had a function. You couldn't help compare their lively, joyful services and the dry, boring meetings at the Kingdom Hall.

A two-petal flower
by flower ini got a note from my sons daycare the other day saying that for their spring project we need to bring in 'family flowers'.
basically they want us to make a flower shaped collage of family photos which they are going to display in the classroom.
each petal should have a picture of a different family member.

They don't have older publications on the official website because they like to change their doctrines frequently and pretend that's what they always believed, plus they have wrongly predicted the end of the world numerous times and they like to hide that fact. They call it "old light".
Use the search function on this site and looked for "archive" or " older publications" you may be able to find a source.

It's the dilemma we all face, there are no easy answers. It's a shame your family is so brainwashed they cannot see the futility and cruelty of their actions, but that is the reality of the situation.
Some feel the effort to go back and live a lie is worth it to maintain family bonds , others do not, it depends on your feelings about your family and the toll it would take to live a life you don't want. My choice was easy, my parents are gone, my children are not in the religion and I value living my life on my own terms more than the association with my two JW siblings, as much as I care for them. But that's me, your milage may differ.
My suggestion: If you do go back, make it clear to your mother that you are doing this just for them, but that it is going to take a toll on you to live something you don't believe in, she should know she is hurting you. If you don't go back, write her a letter and tell her how much her stance is hurting you and your child. And don't let her have access to that child, she doesn't get to reject you and see her granddaughter. Find a nice older woman to hire as a babysitter so your daughter gets the love of an adoptive grandma. If I lived in your city I would do it for free. Not to brag, but my "itsy bitsy spider" skills are top notch.
Only you can decide what is right for you.

I am sorry for your loss Bonsai, I am sure that must be very hard. I am struggling myself with all the recent news reports, it's almost too much to take in, so I feel your pain.
Your words are so true, no matter what we may be going through, each day is a gift and we should treasure it.

If there was a scripture that mentions donkey poop laying on some dirt they can decipher the scripture and tell you who the greater donkey poop and the greater dirt is
LOL, too true. If you could figure that one out, I don't think you need anyone's help figuring the rest out. Just look at the facts and use those same critical thinking skills.

Male Prostitutes in demand during RNC convention
by Coded Logic inamong those making cleveland extra gay this week are male prostitutes who are in high demand among older, allegedly heterosexual male republican delegates.. the new york post reports: .
i’ve seen 10 clients so far,” one male escort said.. “most of them were first-timers.
you could tell they were nervous, but once they became more comfortable, they seemed to be having a good time.”.

Well, it's an interesting report, can you really read anything into the anecdotal comments of a few male prostitutes? It wouldn't be surprising if true, the phenomenon of closeted gay men in the Republican party is not unknown.
Millie, of course Dems do this, but most democrats do not hide their homosexuality because it's not as unacceptable to be gay in the democratic Party. It's the hypocrisy of hiding what you are and as a gay man supporting a party that is against gay rights.
To be fair, they did have an openly gay man as a speaker this year.
