My brother calls my mom ALL THE TIME.
He did some vicious things to her in the past. One of her 'war stories' was that she went to the convention black and blue because he had beaten her up (a son to his mother). He inherited manic depressiveness from my grandpa, and refuses medicine for it.
My other brother also abused her, despite not being manic. I suspect that they were both extremely angry at the religion, my mother's incompetence, and my dad dying when they were younger (died when I was 4, so I don't remember him). I admit that I get angry at her, sometimes to the point of promising myself violence against her, but I posess a cooler head than both of my brothers, and have never gone through (or ever will) with such a terrible thing.
Anyways, back to the story:
They've patched up things in recent years, so he calls all the time. They talk about various things, but many times he ends up getting mad at her and saying stupid things.
She comes out of her room asking for a dictionary. We're in the state of moving, and it's packed away. I tell her that I'd probably know it's definition (being the genius that I am :P), but she just glared at me. I assumed that meant it was a sexual word, but I wondered what in the world they were talking about (because Im not supposed to know 'anything' about sex).
Anyways, I scrounge up the dictionary and give it to her. She comes out a few minutes later all made and stuff, and I ask her what the word was. I bug her about it, and she tells me that he asked her to look up the word 'cult'. "He says that the Jehovah's witnesses are a cult. Look it up, and you'll see."
But she wanted me to define it first, to see what I thought. I said "It's a fanatical religion. Well, not always a religion, it can be fanatical about anything, really."
I was essentially right.
But heres the good part: She asks me if it is a cult. I (proud of myself as I am) say "Of course it is."
She tells me to explain myself. So I say "You're fanatical about the bible, that could be considered an object. And you're fanatical about the Watchtower, that IS an object. And you're fanatical to people, because of the governing body."
We sit down and talk, her saying crap like "We're different because I would lay down my life for my brothers and sisters."
I say "Fanatical islamists would blow themselves up for thier 'brothers'. You're not unique in that you would die for your brothers and sisters"
She completely missed the point, and kept saying "But we don't blow ourselves up"
I hate to say it, but she has the intellegence of a couple of rocks scraping together and making a spark. And that's not my "teenage superiority complex" talking either. Every point she said was cornered, maimed, and subsequently destroyed. She had no chance to attack anything I said.
Also brought up some stuff about how they can't attack buddhism or eastern religions because they're so different. They have thier own books and such. The bible says they're wrong. Well, thier 'bible' says christians are wrong too. And a couple of books doesn't make a case.
And if you got this far through the thousand word story, I congradulate you.

Blood Fractions......
by zeroday inisn't it interesting the wts now allows blood fractions.
i'm just wondering, how do they expect to receive blood fractions if no one donates blood.
i donate blood every 8 weeks and i hope to hell a jw doesn't get it.

My mom, just the other day, said that every part of the blood is present in other substances. The way she spoke, it was as if she belived blood fractions weren't even from blood.
I know about artificial stuff that can carry oxygen, but are any of the blood fractions manufacturable? -

Is manned space exploration a waste of money?
by free2beme ini was watching a program the other day, and it mentioned some interesting things about exploring space.
1. nothing has been found on other planets that we need or would benefit from.
rather the opposite, we have found hostile environments that would kill us.. 2. the cost to get a man to these places is astronomical, and not something that would reap benefit to our planet.. 3. so far, nothing within reasonable traveling distance has shown itself worth an effort that would require man, and would not be done easier with machine.. so with this in mind, other then the travel we see with the space shuttle in our own orbit, that has shown some medical breakthroughs and so on.

Spend the money to research intergalactic travel. Or terraforming.
The population won't get any smaller, we need more space. Once the government realises that you can make money appear out of nothing, they can start up big projects.
How to make money out of air? Simple. Instead of backing up money with gold (a metal...whoopdee do), back it up with actual WORK. People get paid for the amount of time worked, quality of work, and the (can't think of a word) 'work where it's needed'. Meaning, the more a job is needed, the more you get paid. The money is completely electronic. No1 can say that it's fake, because they had to work to get it.
And asteroids are known to have rare substances on them. An expedition that found a large platinum deposite would pay itself off easily. Well, once they figure out how to get into space cheaply. -

I'm a mere child of 16 years :P .
A lucky child. Lucky enough to notice the lies before 50 years of 'loyal' service.
And you don't need arrows to find where my age is displayed. -

What is your weirdest field service(study)experience?
by megsmomma ini was thinking about a bible study my mom's friend had when we were just getting in the borg.....it was with a woman who had several kids and lived in a real old run down house.
i was about 10 and the oldest kid among them, so i had to watch all the kids while they studied.
my lil brother was 3 and he had to go to the bathroom....well i took him in there and aparently they had no plumbing, so the toilet was full of sh*t and there were buckets of it in there too.....ewwwwwwww....my brother was very upset too and refused to go.

I don't really have anything wierd that happened, but I havn't been at it 'very' long.
But to defend myself, I was born into it, AND I like Star Trek :P .
But I'm not nerdy about it. I value it as an icon in television history. The plots are amazing and interesting. The acting is quite good for it's time. And the special effects were also great. I'm one of the few 'youngins' that can appreciate the old school stuff.
But I'd never put on spock ears, a blue shirt, and go around with my hands in the Vulcan salute.
I might attend a convention though ^^ .
Only for the video games, of course! -

Thank you gary :P .
Also, minors don't have the same rights as adults. We are slaves to our parents (mental adulthood or not) until 18. The only rights we have are to protect against mental, emotional, physical abuse or malnutrition. -

This proves it then.

Blood is Thicker than Water
by Clam in"blood is thicker than water.
" well technically speaking it is of course, but how do you feel about this saying?
it implies that those people you have a biological link with are somehow "extra special".
-
AnonyMouse
I always thought that meant that your family (blood) would hold you in higher regard (thicker) than life (water).
So when you say "blood thicker than water", I always thought it meant that your family should love you more than life itself.
But I'm a crazy american teenager, what do I know? -

Have you ever had an encounter with a UFO?
by free2beme inwhen i was about 16 years old, a group of us friends would go hiking a lot on the weekend.
we would rough it to some degree, just a sleeping back and sleeping under the stars.
one night, while hiking into a lake in northern california, we all were sleeping in a clearing just out of legal distance from a small mountain lake we liked to fish in.

Occam's Razor?
Any resource an alien would need is in far more abundance on Jupiter. Visiting earth would be mearly for study.
And waiting for us to suddenly stop being stupid, which won't happy anytime soon.
