Just to be devils advocate for a second here outlaw... If there was 6 billion dollars in the world and I had 6 million of those dollars, I would still consider myself rich... Its not a massive chunk by any means, but its not a pathetic wedge. Its all relative I guess. Im not disagreeing with you, just saying...

Yeah, I tend to agree, you'll just have to hang in there and wait... I think your mum sounds like a really decent person who will realise her own family is more important to her than the organisation. It might just take an occasional email or phonecall from one of your kids to her. You'll have to remember too, this is a really hard time for her as well and try to understand her side of things. I remember my mum and my sister having similar disagreements and things eventually worked themselves out over time. Unfortunately though, you'll never get the days back that youre missing out on now.
Lifes too short for this type of crap isnt it.

Are You Afraid That Armageddon Is Going To Come Since Leaving "The Truth"?

Its been about 3 years since I stopped going to meetings and about 18 years since my sister stopped. Occasionally we talk to each other about being brought up as dubs and as much as you try to forget, it always seems to stay with you just that little bit. Something will happen on the news or you'll hear some "key phrases" and yeah, occassionally I wonder if maybe Armageddon is going to come.
Last time it happened was when I saw an ad on tv for a political party advertising that they would get religion out of politics. That hit a very small nerve for me.
Now I live my life from day to day, and I tend to think, even if it does come, I dont really care all that much, the last few years of my life have been the best by far, thank goodness I got out when I did, otherwise I'd still be feeling guilty, depressed and restricted.
I still really do believe though, that it should be left up to people to make their own decisions about staying or leaving the JWs. I would never try too hard to talk someone out of becoming a JW if that what they really wanted, as long as they knew all about every aspect of the organisation. I think a lot of people are truely happy living that life. Then again, if they wanted a way out I would be there to support them in that decision also.

my story
by jaberwalkie inthis is a difficult thing for me to do, i used to be a jehovahs witness 20 years service as a pioneer.. last thursday it was announced from the platform at my local kingdom hall that i was disfellowshiped.. it was a bit of a shock.
i still have a deep sence of anger at what happened to me and its so unfair.. it started 3 years ago when i began to feel ill and i missed a couple of meetings.
the elders were wonderful and came round and cheered me up.

Seriously, you wouldnt treat an animal that badly, let alone another human being. When times get tough for you, jump on here and say hello, there always seems to be someone around that will do their best to help out people in your situation. What country are you in?
In terms of going back... Think about it this way, would you be going back for the reasons of wanting to be in the organisation, or just to get your so-called friends back? There are great and amazing people outside the organisation and they will stick by you through everything, unlike those who only associate with you under certain conditions.
Good luck and hope things work out ok for you.

Had dinner with some worldly friends, WTBTS is full of it
by thecarpenter injust had dinner with some worldly friends and relatives and what a great time i had.
it was sobering to think that i cut them out for so long and yet they are such nice people.
we were conditioned to believe that they were bad influences and were demon possessed but actually are quite decent and church going people with real strengths and weaknesses like everyone else.

Isnt it great when you realise that there are so many people in the "world" that are good, nice and caring people! Makes you wish you were allowed to discover them years ago instead of being told that they are all evil wrongdoers.
I was lucky in some ways, unlucky in others. I grew up on a tiny Island where there were only a couple of JW families, so Ive always looked for my friends outside the organisation (which for my whole life is where ALL my true friends have come from). That said, going to school and everyone knowing that I was the JW kid whos dad was the one that knocked on all the doors "harassing" people was a bit ordinary at times!
Even my mum now says that her true friends are her friends from outside the organisation.

Are There Any Worthy Non-Watchtower Charities?
by TMS injehovah's witnesses are subtly discouraged from contributing to any charities other that the watchtower society.
while acknowledging that groups other that the wt may do "some good", jw's may feel that charitable groups are generally dishonest, wasteful or simply not doing things "jehovah's way.".
now, as an ex-jw, have you found any charities worthy of your monetary support?

Ive done some volunteer work with an organisation called Australian Aid International www.aai.org.au a very small but very in touch organisation involved in healthcare and shelter for disaster victims.
Well worth a look.

Didnt mean to make this an "adult" discussion topic, although come to think of it, I guess I dont like children all that much anyway so it shouldnt matter too much!!!
