  Italian Nun Murdered; Possible Link to Pope's Remarks

  in somalia, gunmen shot to death an italian nun, who worked in a hospital which serves mothers and children.

  this came only hours after a leading cleric condemned pope benedict for his remarks on islam and violence.

  some think there may be a connection.

  First off, I never said I was an Atheist. Secondly, I dont need, nor do I care about dispensation from anyone - be they fundy Islamists or fundy Christians or posters that make invalid assumptions and speak of "bullets". I found your response offensive, but hey whatever.

  If you read my posts carefully and without assumption you will see that I was not agreeing with Dune's post that Atheistic rule is more peaceful. I was making the point that "Godly" rulers have blood on thier hands as well. Lets not make any pretense that the number of murders somehow raises the Christian rulers to a higher moral level than Atheists.

  I would also disagree that all Atheistic belief is a result of a lack of proof of the existance of god. In fact, many Atheists will site many "facts" to support thier belief that there is no God. One example would be disease and death. I.E How could thier be a universal creator that allows pain and suffering.

  so for our "congregation book study", we are still deeply mired in the bible teach book.

  this week's lesson talks about the whole idea that the book of job relates the central issue of the entire cosmos, a vital issue raised by satan, where satan questions whether humans follow god because of what they are given, or because he deserves it.

  i'm surprised that the book of job, obviously archetypal and figurative (for example, i doubt people back then literally spoke for hours in hebrew verse, and i doubt that four messengers showed up all in a row with stories telling that they, only they, got away to tell of a disaster) even has a place in the canon; aside from its lack of any specific historical position or accuracy, the argument it advances (especially as the society interprets it) is facile: the idea that privileged, wealthy, powerful job somehow stands as a representative for all humanity and serves as a litmus test for man's interaction with god is downright silly.

  i left the witnesses in 1997. i was trying to make new friends and met some people through the gym.

  my spouse and i went to their house for some dinner, and we thought it would be a great time.

  also, we wanted to get to know people that were not witnesses and get a foot-hold into our new life.
