It does take some guts to do all that. A tip of the hat for it. But I doubt if you really got very far if anywhere to be honest.
JW's have seen this stuff before. I know I had. One of the first things that I'd be looking at is how did you LOOK. Do you have any facial hair, tattoos, piercings etc. Are you nicely dressed and well groomed? Do you smell like smoke or alcohol? I'd ask where you lived, if you had a girlfriend or married. What kind of work you did. Do you celebrate holidays today? Why did you stop studying? I'd be sure to grill you thoroughly though discreetly and with a smile.
One slip up in ANY OF THESE AREAS and your credibility is shot down in flames. It does not matter what you spoke with your mouth; if you were deficient in any of these areas, then your "Real-Life Testimony" itself overrides anything else you bring that is critical of the one and only, "Faithful Slave".
I was like that. Most elders I knew were like that. It is very pharisaical as we all know. If you are not walking the JW walk then most anything you say critical is discounted due to simply looking at the end result itself.
If they are asking you to come back, I'd be willing to guess you made a minimal impression against the organization.
They probably have great plans for you next time you come... you just don't realize it yet. -

Joy Or Sorrow When You First Found Out It Was False?
by serotonin_wraith infor me, it was joy.
i was raised in the religion, and i always figured i'd be dying along with 6 billion others because i hated the meetings, the preaching work and the rules, morality and threats of 'jehovah'.
i did not want it to be true.. for others here, finding out it was false was a hard time to go through.. as well as asking which feelings you had at first (joy/sorrow/or add your own) i have a follow up question for those who found it hard- what was it that made the impending deaths of 6 billion people okay for you?

Shocked at first. Sad as well. I really wanted it to be the truth.
Life in a bubble is easier in some ways. Everything was laid out. I knew what to expect and look forward to. I had many friends. I was liked and respected. I had much responsibility. I believed I had found the truth. I had plans to go into the circuit and hopefully even district work as our kids were getting older. I am not the guy that left because things were rotten. For me they were good.
But the facts are what they are. I had to be true to myself, so I disassociated after months of sincere examinations.
In time I began to see so many benefits and opportunities by leaving the org.
I have never been one to shy away from truth, whatever form it takes.
Life today is very good. You make new friends; ones without conditions attached.
You become stronger with a new paradigm altogether.
I have very few regrets being in the org. Good things came out of it too.
Is just a new chapter now. (Actually more like a new book).
With many more stories and opportunities than before! -

Hi Hot Chocolate!
Yep, BLOOD also was the primary reason I left the JW's almost two years ago. I studied that doctrine in great detail before making any definitive decisions. My conclusion; THE JW'S ARE FLAT-OUT WRONG ON BLOOD!
They sure missed the boat on that one. Just as they missed the boat (by a mile) with forbidding vaccinations, organ transplants and alternative service, before conveniently saying those things are now OKAY TO DO.
How bout that!
I have also debated with numerous JW's on blood and every single time it has been real ugly for the JW's and this sorry doctrine. It's really one sad policy to try defending.
Here is a recent thread where I posted numerous arguments detailing just how wrong the JW's are on blood and fractions today.

Make it a point to read these two books as well. Nothing I have read has helped more than these!

My wife also really liked this one: (though I have not read it yet)

My advice is to keep reading, keep learning and continue asking questions. You are not alone. Life outside of the JW bubble can be amazing. Keep up the good work.
All the best,

I've tried Bowflex and did not like it at all. Sears sells them now and I tried it again. Still did not like it. My brother in law was given one and never uses it. I could probably get it (even though he shuns me) but don't want it anyway. Another friend bought one of the best versions and he is still out of shape and does not ever mention it.
The total gym is much more affordable and a whole lot smoother. The silky smoothness is what stands out for me. Though mine is not the actual Total Gym. My wife wanted one and bought this very similar version on Ebay for about $650 a few years ago. I wanted nothing to do with it initially. But then when it actually arrived here, I was blown away with just how good it was. Never a problem with it either. -

Same here, I don't do any stairmasters, stationary bikes, universal machines either.
For cardio, I run. But living in Hawaii makes that easier.
We have a decent weight bench and good selection of dumbbells. Also have one of those "Total Gym" (Chuck Morris imitations) that I like very much and do almost a third of my workout with. Was surprised just how much I liked it actually... -

Would you ever consider Going Back?
by Honesty inafter discovering what you have about the watchtower society would you ever consider going back to the jw's?
-
Vinny
If God or Christ spoke to me (like Jesus did to Paul on the road to Damascus); And if I was then blinded, told to go to the Kingdom Hall to receive my sight back; went to the K Hall, actually DID receive my sight back, would I then likely become a JW again.
Though I might wonder if it was satan that actually spoke to, blinded and healed me.... -

Well, I picked up all the items listed in my first post, took measurements and did an Upper-body workout for day one today. Was an excellent workout, about 55 minutes total. One of my biggest problems in the past has been with working out TOO HARD. Over-training is definitely to be avoided... I think I did okay though...
Thanks for the replies and tips too.
Good to hear about the chin-up bar, Wanderlust. But I bet if you tried a full body workout, with weights and cardio, you'd be even more amazed at how good you look and feel. Chin-ups would be just one portion of an all-body routine, IMO. For example, you are likely not doing very much at all for your triceps, shoulders or chest muscles with pull-ups. Though lats, back and biceps would get used well. You can pick up a set of weights very cheap today. K-mart, Walmart, Sears etc have both weight sets and or dumbbells. Though a local fitness center works great too... Nowadays I have my own stuff though.
Rabbit, sorry to hear about the rough road with all those surgeries. Are you completely healed today? My right shoulder is very tender when I first start out on the bench press. So for that exercise, I do two very light warm-up sets to begin. And so far, each time it has helped me to get to the heavier weights right after. There are many programs out there for you to try today. The Lean Body Promise by Lee Labrada is another good one. Of course "Arnold" has a very popular one, with a huge encyclopedia like book. Though more for Pro Body Building than for overall fitness from what I have read.
But the Body for Life one is very well put together, and has been proven extremely successful for millions of people. Just check all those before and after photos to see what it can do. I like the fact that it focuses on ALL THREE, weights, cardio, and diet. The 12 week PROGRAM is fairly easy to get up and excited for too. Is easy to convince myself, "Okay, by doing this for just 12 weeks (not even three full months) I can make some really great progress in just 12 weeks, it's gonna be worth it etc etc".....
BFL also allows (and actually encourages) you to have one "FREE DAY" per week where you can eat whatever you want. It works too. By the time I was done with my free day, I was sick of it and ready to get back on the healthy stuff. A kind of reverse psychology... (My next free day is going to be next Sunday... Superbowl Sunday... : )
Odrade, good points, thanks for mentioning. You are right about the book. I just didn't want to sound like a commercial in my first post. But it does lay everything out in very easy to follow terms. Has been a best seller for years now. So why not re-start the program soon Odrade, and be ready for summertime with a ripped new body?
; )
Post your progress here as well. Motivation and staying on task is very important from my experience. It would probably help us all if you tell us what's happening.
Thanks again for all the posts and encouragement!
Day two tomorrow, only 82 more after that...

Barbara said:..."An ex-elder, "Vince" called who said he left the org. two years ago. Vince also made outstanding jabs at WT's medical misrepresentation, no vaccination, no organ transplants, etc"
I was surprised though at how short the spot was. I was basically hung-up on when the host ran out of time right in the middle of my point. I was going to say one cannot even disagree with the JW blood doctrine without being cut-off, as was the case with me.
Aside for the abrupt ending I thought it was an excellent show overall.
Hopefully many JW's learned a few things!
