What one thing reminds you most of being a Witness?
by free2beme inthe mind is full of all kinds of things that can trigger memories.
it could be the taste of a certain spice that reminds you of a now passed relative who liked to cook.
it could be the smell of a perfume or cologne, that reminds you of a lover you once could not live without.

where do i begin??
daddio was big on beatings. i have seen more tham my fair share of libraries, men's restrooms and the good outdoors. he also liked to twist ears and pinch thighs as a *warning*, and then another good belting once we got home for good measure. "put your head in the pillow so the neighbors don't hear you crying". what an asshole f**k.
sitting in the front row because we were the perfect jw fam damily, with perfectly studied watchtowers from that morning, and return visit plans for after congregation pot luck...gross.
i lived next door to a kingdom hall from 11 to 17. lovely times. lovely. if we skipped service or meeting, you could bet $$ some dick ass goody two shoes ass would be over in two seconds pounding on the door to see what was up.
love the post on the unleavened bread. we all ate it...washed it down with the blood wine.
need i mention elders meetings???? three perverts and one of me.
did he play with your breasts?
what. like ping pong?
the horrible singing. the 10 minute prayers begging for forgiveness where you actually fall asleep twice in between. hall announcements. the microphone attendants. the abused co-dependant wives agreeing that their men are head of the household (my ass.)
i love this site. this is seriously the best thing that could have ever happened to me. thanks. -

Were you a bathroom breaker?
by Mysterious ini swear my mother used to keep better track of my bladder than i did.
she'd sit me down occasionally for talks such as "i noticed you've been going to the bathroom a lot during the meetings lately maybe we need to cut down on what you drink on meeting nights" etc.
others would go 2 or 3 times a meeting and if i went twice a week i'd get a talk about it!

I forgot about all the potty breaks too.
the families in my kh had massive families. there was always something going on.
ms and elders pacing the lit counter, checking out the pre teen girlies using the bathroom.
some helpless babe was always getting their ass beat in the little torture den (or library) whatever it was called. i spent many a fine sunday afternoon with a swollen bum.
my dad was the best!!! once my lil brother had to go. dad said hold it. he ended up having an accident in his seat, which of course resulted in a beating and total humiliation.
i wanted to rip his f*cking eyes out.
years and years of therapy later and i still feel crazy half the time.
i can't believe we actually are even somewhat normal human beings. -

Celebrating holidays
by dobbie injust wondering if you still abstain from celebrating christmas birthdays etc or if you do celebrate them how long did it take to feel comfy with doing it after you'd left the jws?i'm fading at the moment but although me and hubby have talked about spending xmas with our nonjw families and i told him i was going to start sending bday cards to my family, the thought of it scares me like its a big huge sin.does it ever feel natural to celebrate holidays?i used to love all that sort of thing before i was a witness but when my mum and stepdad wished me happy bday last month it felt really odd and i was uneasy.i find it v confusing cos i can sort of see that jesus wasn't born in dec. but maybe he can have 2 bdays like the queen!also not being able to send fathers day cards this year was the final straw for me i felt so bad about it so i have lots of making up to do but just hope i can enjoy it all without feeling bad.
i know they say some bday things have pagan origins but there are things jws can have or do that also are pagan.wedding rings for example.thanks

I love holidays. Especially birthdays. The no bday rule was always stupid to me. Ah...some guy lost his head...ok..makes total sense.
How could the births of my two children not be the most important days of the year to me??
And my birthday is pretty cool too.
Also love love love Thanksgiving. The best part is no family drama. I get to spend it with my friend-family. While everyone else bitches about having to go here or there to see mom or auntie, I am drinking wine and sharing a fine feast with my favorite people.
It may feel awkward at first but start out small at your own pace. Someday you may find yourself fighting over that last kick-ass xmas tree and sending out corny christmas cards with the rest of them. -

Anyone forcibly removed?
by Wordly Andre innot sure if this has been talked about but,
when i was about 12, my family and i were sitting in the middle of the kingdumb hall, i was seated at the end of the aisle, and some lady sitting about 7 rows in front of us got up and started yelling, and ran up to the speaker, two guys grabbed her and took her outside, we never saw her again, but i do remember all the rumors about her, and what she did, i saw her clearly but people were saying that she tried to attack the elder with a knife, i did not see a knife, other rumors were drugs, demons, apostate, etc.
has anyone here been removed from the kingdumb hall by force?

my "crazy apostate" auntie wasn't allowed to come to my dad's funeral.
she snuck in anyway. i believe she was escorted out.
speaking of...i really need to try to find her again. -

I love my saturdays......
by freedomlover ini woke up this morning and made coffee and we are planning on eating a big breakfast and then doing a hike to a waterfall where we can play in the water and pick wild blueberries.
it got me thinking how wonderful it is to have my weekends to myself now.
when i was a dub i would skip out on service a lot but the whole day was ruined for me because i'd feel guilty for not going out in service.

daddy dearest took multiple drugs, tried to kill himself with a handful of pills and a bottle of whiskey...everyone told him he needed to pray more. when i was a depressed suicidal teenager, grandpa told me to stop being foolish and get to the meetings and field service. gosh, how i miss all that great advice.
