My son (almost 13) and I got home from school shopping and there was a package in the door. Addressed to him from my super jw sis. My heart sank, the convention...I knew what was inside. He tears it open to find a couple cds and a note along with "What Does The Bible Really Teach" book with his name inside the cover. I'm pissed. Who the hell does she think she is??
I was planning on writing on this topic soon, but now it seems appropriate. It goes hand in hand:
I divrced my son's father when he was 1 1/2. I left the jws at the same time. His dad was an off and on jw. when it seemed convenient for him kinda guy. He died a couple years ago. My son still sees both sides of the family on occasion. His experiences include going to meetings with grandparents, uncles, aunts etc...when he visits. He has accompanied them door to door too, which he dislikes very much. I tell him he doesn't have to do any of it, but he does to appease the fam.
I know they are telling him "if you want to see your dad in the paradise you have to do this and this" (puke) and I can see that makes him feel bad. He doesn't really believe any of it and I need to keep it that way.
I want to tell him everything but am worried is he too young to understand?
How should I approach it?
My big big question is how do I talk to him about this crazy cult without making him run right to it with open arms? -

Baptized July 05. Left Dec 05.
by Moomin ini have been lurking on these forums for about 6 months and thought it was time to join in.. i was a child/teen when i first became introduced to jehovah's witnesses through my mum who studied for a while but never fully committed.
i had a study and attended some meetings but it all petered out by the time i hit my late teens and we moved to another town.. for the following 10 years i just lived my life how i pleased.
got married etc.

Leaving the meeting early
by beautifulisfree inwhy is it that when ever you would leave the meetings any earlier then when they were all done...did you feel like everyone was watching you or even sometimes guilty?
sometimes, i would leave at 'halftime' (at the second song) either to go to work or just because i was having trouble dealing with the b.s.
and of course everyone was nosey and would ask my elder dad after the meetings where i went as though i was off to commit some horrible crime.

When I used to get dirty looks for leaving at half-time I just figured they were all jealous and sad that they didn't have the balls.

COFFINS in the Kingdumb hall.....
by kid-A ini recall going to several jw funerals as a small kid where the coffin had been brought into the hall, a service that must have been provided by.
the funeral parlour.
however, since the early 80s, i have never again attended a jw funeral with a casket present in the hall.

I remember closed caskets in the kh as a kid, with some open at a funeral home only and it didn't seem highly looked upon.

Public Reproof: What is it? Has it ever happend in your Hall or to you?
by jayhawk1 inwhat is public reproof?

*"Because you were reproved, your "privileges" are removed. You can go out and service and you can talk at the doors."
Weird... my jc said no talky talky at the door.
I remember visiting a friend in another state while being PR and at the bookstudy the conducto called on me (no hand up, me zoning out) and asked me a question from the book. It was an awkward moment. -

I got PR'd when I was 17. I was baptized (at 13) and could of really given a rat's ass, except that I was terrified of my dad. I had moved out, and he said I couldn't talk to my lil' brothers/sisters or my mom. I got back in the good graces a year later to only be DF'd a year after that.
The best was I couldn't answer at the meetings, or talkat the door in service. OHH. BOO-HOO!!!
