Gee what a crime...finding your faith in Jesus.
These people are nuts.
for those of you don't know our story sweet pea and i stopped attending all meetings quite abruptly about 4 months ago.
since then we have had a few ill-advised conversations with jw friends and family stating our reasons - sometimes in emails.
also sp emailed a new friend on another forum her experiene with going to a new church.
Gee what a crime...finding your faith in Jesus.
These people are nuts.
a brother on the beliefnet discussion of the new km question box claims that the following list of writings is by jw professors, including elders and former cos and dos.
some of the names, like jay hess and firpo carr, i'm familar with.
most i haven't heard of.
Firpo has been in and out many times. I think currently he is out. Last time I saw him on TV dressed as a Muslim, with a Muslim cleric and I think Michael Jackson.
Hal Flemmings definitely is. Has a website (though not so sure now with the new "info"LOL). He's done a lot of writing through the years, a lot on the trinity.
Heinz Schmit I understand is now out, and I think agnostic.
i went to the grocery store today - no that's not your fault.. it's 103 degrees today, not bad.
there were three people sitting in the shade in front of the grocery store.
there was a middle aged woman, an older man in a wheelchair, and a thin man whose frozen smile screams "elder.
Brava!
having put some distance in between us and the wts, i can't read any of the society's publications without feeling extremely uncomfortable and irritated by the tone and language that the society uses.
it all sounds the same - patronising, guilt-inducing, condescending, intellectually unchallenging, etc.
as far as i'm aware the term is 'watchtower speak'.
I see nothing but arrogance now.
a quick perusal of the bible reveals an extremely violent world.. any brief study of human history reveals acts of barbarism and bloody atrocities dispersed across millenia .. is the world of today perhaps safer than ever?.
No.
For the common everyday man living in any cosmopolitan city, the world is less violent, man is less violent. In fact the quality of life even with the shinking "middle class" in most areas is many times better than it was in 1914, 1814, 1714...
The weapons are more deadly to be sure. And frightening now is suicide bomber scenarios, but IMHO, mankind overall is less violent than any other time in history.
hi, this is very long, sorry, but i need to talk to someone about how i feel.. i'm not a jw although for a short time i studied with them back in 1984 along with my younger sister.
my sister became a jw in 1984 and about that very same time i accepted jesus christ as my savior, but did not become a jw as i disagreed with some of their teachings.
i did and still do attend the church of god.she has four children.
Dawn, welcome to the board!
I am sorry for your pain.
The deal is there are two sets of rules and standards. JW's and everyone else. Having gone through/still going through issues right now with JW relatives, they can act anyway they want, say anything they want about anybody, and not think twice about it, and I mean top dog elders. The arrogance is nauseating.
What you've done in the past you have done for the right motive which is the important thing to God. Who knows what the future will bring...maybe your sister will reflect on your generosity and kindness, and you will have your sister again. In the mean time, you must do what is best for your family.
Strength for the journey.
i found this interesting.... .

I do think this is mainly aimed at Stafford.
How do you think this KM will affect the R & F JW?
My opinion is very little, based on the JW's I know. Very very few have anything to do with the internet other than booking vacations. Behind closed doors they may grumble about reporting hours, anti-education, 1914 etc, but in the light of day, they do not want to rock the boat that is their lives...all the while praying incessantly for the "end to come" to validate their decisions.
What do you guys think?
i've long known, and most of you probably have as well, that there was something not all there with me.
mostly i put it down to me being bad.
questions i've never been asked before.
(((((Crumpet))))))
Just read this thread. How brave you are, and all here really, to share your life experiences. I don't have much to contribute on this, but no need because the sage advice is all here.
Just know you are loved.

the icky leech thing got me thinking on other practices that may or may not be forbidden as well.
i recall long ago now, hearing that kineseology was considered wrong, but i also knew of a sister who studied with me long ago who both she and her husband were childless pioneers, who also spent a considerable amount of time as bethelites telling me that she used this as a medical healing practice, but that most jw's considered it wrong.
she at the time said it was really up to ones conscience, but now its got me thinking?
Also there was some other guy that alot of witnesses here used to visit in Fallbrook California and another location. His methods were considered controversial but more due to medical soundness than to violation of Christian Principles (TM)
Is this the guy who used to be able to diagnose over the phone with some machine? I remember someone who died tragicly from bone cancer that went to him. Her parents spent thousands of dollars there they were telling me. I wondered what happened to him.
I personally think energy medicine is great.
friends: guilted or inspired?.
one of our dear regular posters mentioned that she knew the same one-legged pioneer sister i had heard tell of throughout my career as a jehovah's witness.
the tear-jerking accounts of her ten exemplary, theocratic children, all of whom could recite the books of the bible before they could say dada, inspired me to teach my own children well, however late in their own adolescence it took them to come up with their own gurgly version of dada.
NEVER inspired.
