quite a complex,,plenty money going on..
On the backs of their faithful. They have to use the money they have for something as a non-profit/charity...might as well built "educational" centers. They would never spend it to physically help the flock...only to build build build.
I hate the RBC and the building schemes. My brother was bragging about all the projects going on in the Northwest, some big assembly halls on the Canadian border. I seriously had to bite my tongue so I wouldn't spoil our "nice" visit. Ugh!!!
I think San Diego is next week...seems really early.
i know anyone who believes in evolution is going to say that there is no 'if' about it.
however.... if man evolved over hundreds of thousands of years ago, why were there only about 200-300 million people alive 2,000 years ago?
surely there'd have been many billions by then?.
Great explanation cofty!
I also wanted to say I have enjoyed following this thread,
there are some perfumes that i absolutely just love and a little squirt of it can bring back such good memories, make you feel sexy.
my favorite is dolce & gabbana (red), followed by d&g "the one", followed by coco chanel .
on men, i love the smell of the original hugo boss - used to make my tummy clench in a good way .
zed, it was always hard to find. Strangely, my brain can sort of "smell" just thinking about it. It must be somewhere still.

Angel, and Angel variants, and now mostly for the past 3-4 years, Pinksugar, for some reason, Cashmere Mist.
I did buy in a gift store a fragance that had tobacco/leather and musk in it that I really really like.
In the past, White Linen, Obsession and variants, Channel 22, Shalimar...
what would be the most important things you think someone should be aware about jws if they are planning on getting baptised as a jw?
imagine you are on a plane and get talking to the person next to you.
you find out they are considering becoming a jw but they are not sure.
I'd tell them that every single non-JW friendship and relationship they have currently, friend and family alike, is in serious jeopardy should they become a JW. Even JW friendships are contingent on them being a regular and active Witness for the remainder of their lives. Vacations and leaves of absences are not allowed in regards to being an active JW. You are expected to be preaching their word until you draw your last breath.
Yes, I think making it as personal as you can is important. How it will affect their life...it's just not like an innocent bible study, as JW's like to present, nor is it like joining the church down the street. The person can ose is life or everybody in it if they make a different/disapproved choice as a JW.
some elders enjoy giving the business to the lowly flock thru intimidation.
.
some love to ask you to enter with them into the "backroom".. of course, there were many that never had run-ins with the shepherds because they were under the radar.. did you ever get interrogatted by the elders and if so, how did it go??
I was approached after a Sunday meeting by a newbie elder that they wanted to meet with me and my roommate after the next meeting. I wasn't thinking and said "okay". I then told my roommate who was very outspoken, and she marched right over to the elder and asked if it was a committee meeting. He said "no". She asked who was going to be there, and he named 2 elders. She asked him why were 3 elders going to there if it wasn't an elders's meeting. He hemmed and hawed. She told him we'd get back to him.
Her father was an elder so we asked him what to do. He said to name our time not their time, and request only 2 elders. So she called the elder back and told him we would not meet after the meeting because we were uncomfortable doing that, and we agreed on another time.
Turns out, the newbie elder had a study who saw us out at a club the previous Saturday. They guy had too much to drink and tried to get fresh with me. I didn't think about it at all, but I think he thought we would tell on him and he wanted to put us in a bad light first, and accused us of drinking too much. So I set the newbie elder straight. Then he started asking a bunch of questions about our personal activities. One was "I hear you guys go to Happy Hour a lot." I said, "define a lot." He said once or twice a week. I said "nope." He made a few more unsuccessful attempts to trick or catch us, for who knows why. My gf and I are managers and dealing with him was a piece of cake. We deal with cagier individuals every single day.
What an idiot. Of course, I heard he was removed as an elder years later and the PO had to apologize to the congregation for something he did.
The whole thing was not serious, but I learned an invaluable lesson. I would never be intimidated or bullied by elders, or forced to do something I was uncomfortable with, and I would be in control if there was ever a meeting.

I would try to determine what their attraction is, and go from there. I would share my life as a JW, the good, and then depending on what they say, I would share the bad:
Shunning- if at any point, should they question ANYTHING, they would be marked, shunned.
Ever evolving blood issue - you could lose your life if a decision was made on a vague doctrine, which could be reversed at any time. Many lives lost for a doctrine that has been now modified.
Education - If they are educated, they would be expected to not provide higher education for their family or they become marked, or counseled.
ex-jw bridget r. gaudette has posted an article in which she daydreams about the conversation she would love to have with her jw mother.. it is a brilliant and moving piece that also featured on the richard dawkins foundation website yesterday.. please make sure you click on the link at the end of the article for an excellent audio interview about her jc and subsequent treatment by her family.. .
hi mama, im bridget gaudette, your 34-year-old daughter.
we havent talked much the last dozen or so years.
I read this article and thought it was outstanding. Although the interest in anything JW is less than we like to believe, it's quality like this that will garner respect the exJW's, and negative feelings toward the printing company cult.
Well done Bridget.
