Friend gets "scriptural divorce" over wifes transgressions before they got married...
by sosoconfused inso i have a friend in a congregation in new jersey who recently called me to tell me that he got a divorce.
nothing surprising there at first but it is the fact of when it happened.
his wife began pioneering april 1, and after about three weeks she came to him and told him that about 4 years she had engaged in loose conduct (fondling the penis and the guy kissing her breasts) during a time that she was inactive.

I know of scriptural grounds being given because of the husband touching the private parts of another woman during the separation. It was considered porneia. Don't get me wrong, I was happy this miserable couple could move forward into new lives, but touching means adultery? I asked several elders about it and they just shrugged their shoulders and didn't say anything because they could not provide the scriptural support.
They absolutely make it up as they go along. What happened to your friend would not necessarily happen in another congregation.

So you guys who are in, are the people around you eating this stuff up? Wondering.
LOL Outlaw. Exactly. It's like Job, it's okay to kill off everything and everybody because you are going to get new ones. Life is so valuable to Jah.

If ARMAGEDDON Came, Would YOU Repent?
by Cold Steel inthe day finally comes.
you get up one day with the nagging feeling that it's going to be different.
you get dressed, get in the car, then notice how dark the weather's getting.

I already said the the sinner's prayer, you only have to say it once, right? I'm good.

I'd might tell him "Of course!" knowing full well it would never happen and perhaps getting the guy off my back.

Was the TM School really any good ?
by Phizzy inmany of us were members of the theocratic ministry school for many years.
some say it helped them with public speaking, and maybe it did for some.. but, when you look back at the quality of student it turned out, was it really any good ?.
most elders are crap public speakers, most r&f bros are crap at reading aloud, most jw's are crap at selling their religion at the door, most jw's have scant real knowledge of the bible.. there are reasons for this, quite often the tms overeer hasn't a clue how to teach a person to progress.

I would say on paper, the idea was pretty good, and I think overall, if you use it they way you would any opportunity to learn, you can certainly improve using the guidebook.
From what I understand the TMS Overseer is a newboy position because it took so much work, the body couldn't wait to pass it off to the new appointee. Unfortunately, it was not the right position for some, and the congregation suffered for it.
In the big picture, if as kids we were encouraged to participate in school activities, clubs debate teams...I think most of us kids would have benefited more than a 5min presentation in the TMS. When I quit the school I told the overseer "I graduated."

Anyone else an Ex Bethel "volunteer"
by BackseatDevil ini was wondering if there were any other ex-bethelites on here.
i personally regularly went for temporary work at brooklyn then was assigned to the farm for a year and a half.
it was... one of the most bizaare experiences of my life.. so i wrote it all down (finally, after some 15 years) so i won't bore anyone on here with the details of the story - because bethel doesn't show up until chapter 15... and for you straight folks, it gets a bit gay in two places... but nothing gross.

The whole place was sort of depressing, not like the old days. Before everybody was chatty and mildly interested in visitors. That time it was like they all were dodging the swinging blade and none to happy about it, understandably.

Well that's a handsome couple, and a great name to boot.
I was there last in 2005, and the receptionist 124 bldg looked just like him. I over heard him talking to another worker while we were waiting for transportation, and they both were very disgruntled. The guy behind the desk said something like, "if you would have told me I'd be sitting here behind this desk 25 year down the road, I would have said you were crazy. But here I am."
