One Day assembly in Arizona- $17,000 !!
by AndDontCallMeShirley ini heard from a reliable source that a one-day assembly in arizona last weekend had a "cost" to the publishers of $17,000.. predictably, the elders were nice enough to obligate the attendees to a $6,000 donation to wt before the assembly "costs" (i.e.
"rent/extortion) were even met.
$11,000 rent plus $6000 in extra "donations".

Welp, I played a bit of the website as I was working later in the day. Lett is something else. I was thinking he was trying to appeal to 3-5 year olds, but in other talks, his manner is the same. Wow. Something odd there.
So...it's pretty slick, really. Very professional. Even actors portraying Russell, Rutherford and Knorr. That must be a fun department to belong to...
I see Kavelin's song "Make the Truth Your Own" made the cut into the current songbook and into the audio.
There sure is a lot of warm fuzzy in the streaming videos of the international conventions etc.
It will be interesting to hear 6 mths down the road how many will still be watching.
Edited to add: Quickly I run to play a Ted Talk to clear my head of tv.jw.org.

looks at me and says "you look familiar." I say, "you do too." He says, "Dagney XXXX" Yes, I reply.
Turns out he was from my old hall, I remember when "he came into the truth." (Sorry )
So...my co-worker is there and they know ALL about my losing of friends/family shunning/current friends leaving. This poor soul goes on to talk about his marriage and divorce, "Jehovah is good," remarriage...oy, and so much more. I considered telling him I didn't go to meetings anymore...but he was on such a roll to convince me through gritting teeth how wonderful he was, I didn't have the heart. I think he said we are his route, so I'll tell him another day.
My co-worker got to witness first hand the cult speak. So weird. I need a drink.

Oh he's creepy. Really odd choice to be the face to introduce this program. The marketing people need to get these guys some education on how to be on TV etc.
Some will eat it up...but I think many will turn the channel...after all there is so much to see on Roku!

The Electric Church Turns On!
by Atlantis inthe electric church turns on.
(awake 1981, march 22, pp.5-8).
.. .. the watchtower society knows very well how much money can be made by television preaching.

If they can change core beliefs such as:
- The meaning of the "generation," the foundation of their apocalyptic prophecies
- Who the GB are
- Blood policy
They can change anything without blinking an eye. Their whole arrogant attitude has been to elevate themselves and to denigrate literally everybody and everything else. Like somebody pointed out, they would lead you to believe they invented electricity if they thought they could get away with it.
I do agree it is a means to keep the faithful tuned in. I think it's just a novelty to a good percentage, don't know what that percentage is...maybe half would not be interested in an ongoing basis. Instead they will be watching "Homeland" and "Breaking Bad"...of course and binge watching "Orange is the New Black."

Just because everything is different doesn't mean anything has changed.

Looking back to what happened since sept 2012... i must say its brilliant !
by insidetheKH inwho thought in the early months of 2012 that such a rebranding would take place in only a matter of 24 months?.
they managed to go from an antique looking and boring website (watchtower.org) with hardly any attractive content to go to a fresh looking new website with stuff for everyone, families, children, teenagers.. movies, and short videos about almost everything and new ones added every month.
cartoons, animation video's , interviews, picture activities all kind of projects, many audio files like dramatic bible readings, dramas and music, online research tools, new brochures for kids (off and online) etc.

insidetheKH, we appreciate the fact that you are quite proud of the recent accomplishments by the WBTS. However, honestly, like jwfacts said, these acheivements can be accomplished quite quickly and thoroughly today. A video can go viral around the world in a matter of minutes. Building a studio, buying equiment, creating a logo...there is nothing new or special or needing of a divine hand to accomplish.
I think most people will agree it's about time some modernization is implemented by the WBTS corporation. I think more importantly what most find more critical is the message. The jw.org message is neither inviting or comforting to outsiders. The message of a soon to be paradise earth is 100+years overdue. The message of divine exclusivity is laughable to most. Lowering pioneer hours and counting RBC work hours do not represent a true picture of the preaching work, and the restructuring of meetings keep attendance numbers inflated.
I hope you stick around and read more discussions here with an open and honest mind.

TV.JW.Org - Streamed to KHs via the New Projectors
by passwordprotected ini read here recently that the khs are being instructed to buy and install projector systems.. now that we've seen the launch of of tv.jw.org we can fully expect public talks to - on a monthly basis at least - be replaced by content streamed from the site to the screens in khs.. .

It makes total sense. And after the positive reception last year for the televised annual meeting, it's a great way to keep the faithful who love this stuff engaged. They got so excited to see the GB televised! Smart move for them.
