Smoke and mirrors. They have to continually find ways to show they are relevant in a changing more informed world, and that they are growing to keep up appearances.

Anybody else having trouble walking away?
by JW-Matrix inok...so i'm a 19 year old fifth generation jw.
mentality, i've been out of the "truth" since i was 16(woke up after i was baptized ironically), but on the outside i'm a model jw.
my parents are really devoted, my grandparents are super devoted, and so are my ants and uncles.

Welcome to the forum JW-Matrix!
So to answer your question, yes we all have been faced with the same dilemma you are facing.
Bottom bottom line...you can't live a happy life when you are trying to please others, putting them above your own needs. That will not change. Not only that but you will be resentful later if you give in to the ideas and pressure of others, when it is not what you want to do.
Disappointment comes with the territory. BUT...the stronger and more confident you are in whatever you do will keep them in their place. Remember they want the best for you from their standpoint, from what they know. But if being a JW is not right for you, you will never be happy/content leading a double life. If you commit to fulltime service, or being an MS or Bethelite...it will be so much harder to leave. Life is really too short, and life is meant to be lived. Have fun in college. Go and do and be the person you are meant to be.
I wish you strength for the journey.

Yeah he is setting the stage already when he loses to try for a recount. Because...he's not a loser...and he hates losers.
I heard him say today that if he loses it will be the biggest waste of time and money ever. (you can say that again DJ!) But what an insult that running for the most important job in the land is not worth it. Goes to show you he really doesn't care about the peeps.
It's unsettling and scary to watch.

Recording of AH MacMillan and others
by dropoffyourkeylee inhere's an interesting website with a collection of recorded talks by many of the 'historic' people in the wt organization.
i only listened to one, by ah macmillan, from about 1960 or so, but there are many to choose from.
i can't imagine where they got a hold of these.. http://da-ip.getmyip.com:8080/pdf/other%20talks/.

Wow that is an amazing collection! Many familiar names. Dave Ianelli, writing committee, was a very good speaker and seemed very sensitive to the flock's needs. A few of his talks morphed into WT articles. I was amazed how the WT could destroy a very sincere, helpful talk into standard WT crap.
Anyway...this list is walk down memory lane. Thank you for sharing.

Post Election GoP: I Predict ...
by Simon in... a riot, i predict a riot !

I was listening to the ghostwriter who worked with Trump on one of his biographies. He said Trump has such bad ADD he could not focus for more than 2-3 minutes even when talking about himself! He said that is a scary behavior when going into an office that is going to require focus and decision making.
He's a joke. Embarrassing for this country. But he will not let go. He is going to make somebody pay for the attacks on his thin skin.

JW's Are All About Free Will Now
by pale.emperor infrom the january 2017 watchtower:.
first paragraph reads: when faced with making a personal choice, one woman told a friend: “do not make me think; just tell me what to do.
that is easier.” the woman preferred being told what to do instead of using a precious gift from her creator, the gift of free will.

The Great October 2016 Invite to the Sunday Meeting campaign ...
by freddo inwell how's it going round your way?
massive increase of interested ones?
did you even know it was supposed to be happening?

Smoke and mirrors. Gotta give the peeps that show up a mission, a reason for JW's to be relevant. The WT knows growth is impossible in this day and age. Maybe the faithful know it too, hence the low energy preaching work. T

BIG news Trump...His lewd conversation leaks.
by James Mixon inif he get pass this, america deserve him...... conversation 10 years ago..

I don't think it will make a difference to most of his supporters.
They don't care if he stiffs small businesses and routinely doesn't pay for services he receives.
They don't care if he lies to investors so they will fund more money into his flailing businesses so he can divert it to other businesses while they lose their investments.
They don't care that he forced his bankers to WO his debt to them so they could be part of the new ventures. We've all paid for Donald's wealth.
The woman thing...they will easily excuse. I wonder how long before Melania takes a hike. 5 years when the son is older?

Can Someone Explain To Me, Are The Org In Debt Or Rich?
by pale.emperor inhi guys.. im aware of the orgs blatant hints to donate, donate, donate to the org, the sacking of bethel staff, selling of buildings, reducing mags and books, emphasis on digital rather than physical books etc which is obviously a money saver - but are the wt org in money difficulty?
because elsewhere on here and on youtube there's stories of the watchtower being mega rich, one even called it "a billion dollar organization".
and if there is any money in there, who's benefiting off it?

I think their coffers are full at the moment. But they saw the writing on the wall years ago. They know there is only so much income they can count on going forward. They tied that one up nicely with the congregation monthly tithe. They cut the out flow of cash by cutting various full time positions (missionaries/special pioneers/DO's etc.) throughout the world and reducing staff at the Bethels. They cut expenses all around by modernizing...especially reducing the ridiculous amount of printing they used to do. They are streamlining their properties for the best monetary reasons. No matter what you might think, they are not concerned about growth or how these changes affect the faithful. They know the real numbers. The whole world knows the numbers...they have the worse retention for born ins. That won't change and the old timers are dying off. They know their day in the sun is over...there will be no significant growth. They will retain the ones who need them, who need a high control/cult to help them live.
They are developing their own in house attorneys I'm sure to help defer outgoing legals costs for the ongoing court cases. Having to pay out big bucks in court cases will be their biggest expense. I hope the hits keep coming. They need to pay for their negligence.
