You Know You're Starting To Wake Up When...
The TMS overseer hands you a talk slip and you hand it back and say "Oh, I already graduated."
you start listening to music deemed "unsuitable for christians".
you pretend to knock on the doors.
you explain a jw teaching to someone and realize how ridiculous it sounds.

picture 185,000 people on the streets attending the biggest event in long beach.
there is a main downtown street which is the only way into the grand prix.
it’s chaos because it is not private property that can be contained; these are working boulevards with cars and people vying to get where they want to go.
They believe 'honest hearted ones' will find them. It sounds like predestination to me. But why bother with the preaching work when, if this was true, someone could simply stumble across their website or walk into a KH.
^^ I always thought about this. It's such doublespeak. You are blood guilty if you are not using every minute of your life, yet the angels and jah are bringing the right people to da troof.
Again, a great job WTBS, keeping the confusion alive for the faithful. They just need trust in jah and "BELIEVE" (ala "Book of Mormon) to get their pet panda.

Interesting sir, I suspected as much, especially after the Superbowl. I think somebody posted something similar about the carts there.
Man, and you are so right. They were smack dab in the middle of the busiest walk areas. I think they must have been schooled in facial expression. Seriously, they had these giant grins as they were looking at people. It was a very Stepford look. And I have to say, the group they had out looked like they were from the Spanish and downtown congregations.
There were other rather seedy looking characters out trying to get people to take a paper that looked like a $100 bill. One guy behind me took it and was reading it outloud as we were crossing the street. It had a bunch of scriptures on it about fornication and adultery. We all had a giggle about that.
This is the same venue where the RC's are held, and a fair amount of "apostates" do their work there.
On a side note, we attended this event with new family we found through Ancestry.com. Old family consisted of me an exJW, one never baptized, and two offspring raised around it but never came in, and one JW. We are shunned for the most part by the JW, although this time, he was a bit more relaxed and on better behavior. I do my part of anti-witnessing calling out poor behavior to new family, the shunning etc.
From the outside looking in at this modern witnessing work, it just seems ridiculous. Talking to a guy that just left about a year ago, he told me he AUXPioneered (is that still the current term?) several months the year before last. He loved the easy hours and it was fun setting up the carts the college campus. He didn't see/feel the absurdity he sees now.

And there they are on the main corner, across from the entrance, right in the middle are the cart witnesses. I would have snapped a pic but as most people understand, this is not the time to stop and block foot traffic. They had weird big grins in their face while holding up the mags as literally thousands of people are rushing by.
We cross the street going towards the entrance gate and there is another set of carts, 20 ft away from the security check. Everybody needs to go through this area and it backs up surrounding the carts. I did not notice them until I’m right up to them. Nothing should surprise me about these folks but I was when coming face to face. Again the weird fakey fake smile.
On the way out after the race they positioned themselves in the middle of the walkway so you had to go around them.
Remember in the old days we used to say if people would see the dubs on their street and say “oh those dubs are back again” it was a witness because they acknowledged our being there. Is this what is going on here? No one will ever stop to talk with them except other dubs. There is no other reason to position themselves in this type of venue. I doubt even dubs that were at the GP would even stop to talk with them, because well, they should be out in FS not at the race!
it is just amazing how they have convinced themselves of their own relevance. Good job WBTS! You got them busy in a nothing work.
made the mistake of opening the front door today...i was expecting someone to service our central heating...oh dear, it was a sister instead :(.
she tells me jehovah misses me.
it seems god only sees me if i go to the meetings.
Agree with all the previous comments. I just HATE when I hear someone say that mindless OP comment.
the memorial last night was nothing new.
the routine never changes.
two congregations joined together for the night in one building.
When I was in, we all used to joke:
How was your memorial?
Blah blah blah - don't drink the wine
Blah blah blah - don't drink the wine
Blah blah blah - don't drink the wine
Can substitute "don't even think you are going to heaven."
howdy everyone!
just wanted to pop in and say hi to all the old timers and the new.
i can't believe i've been a member of this site for 18 years now.
Great to see you!
i remember an elder questioning a woman who had admitted to giving and receiving oral sex from her unbelieving mate.
he asked her the most intimate questions which clearly flustered her.
interestingly, she “confessed “ to the elders because her conscience bothered her.
I could watch the Munsters but could not watch bewitched and I could watch I dream of Jeannie but nothing of the occult
I could watch the Addams Family and Jeannie, but not the Munsters. LOL
I'm sure there are hundreds of thing. Reading over the previous comments I remembered a few things.
Playing chess is like playing war and creates a "warlike spirit". I'm like 10 yo and used to play with my brother. Really!
Pinatas ok. Pinatas not okay. An elder's wife asked me one time at the meeting if I knew what the "current understanding of pinatas" was.
The religion is nuts.
i really have appreciated the suggestions on how to respond to the elders recent behavior of attempting to find a way to disfellowship me and trying to push their way into my home by force.
thank you it's been most helpful to see many different perspectives.. the following post is lengthy as i'm also addressing a related topic to anyone reading this site who is not a witness but even considering joining.
you will see once again how the jw religion destroys families for their own members, those who try to leave quietly, and even the family members who were raised in it yet were never baptized.
I would take the medical route.
I would have a doctor write a letter saying you have anxiety and any additional stress would be hazardous to your health. Then I would write a nice letter to the elders in the congregation, maybe even all of them, with a CC to WT HQ, and maybe to the CO even, stating that you are under doctor's care and cannot be stressed by any means, and attach the doctor's letter. Thank them for their concern and tell them you will contact them when things improve and you are able. I would send the letters return receipt.
It would be well worth a doctor's visit explaining the harassment, or if you have EAP at work they should be able to provide a letter as well.
WT HQ would probably tell the congregation to back off. It's not worth it.
They can still write you a letter demanding you to meet with them and if you don't show, they can DF you. But if you have the medical issue in place, it might be a good deterrent.
When I left I had an elderly pillar of the congregation mother I looked after. My one goal was to preserve our relationship and not to cause her any more worry at her advanced age. I was ready to do ANYTHING. It didn't come to that but it was a few nerve wracking years when I first left, dodging calls, hiding from the knocks on the door, worried about running into people etc.
Do you know why they are so persistent with you? Usually they save that for elders and servants. Anyway, good luck to you. It will get better.
jw father in law in hospital, this weekend, maybe last days of his life.
with his last energy he was reading a watchtower magazine for comfort.
i could understand.
I think the older ones who looked at the magazines for their source for tips, quirky facts/articles, as well as religious subjects are the only ones to "benefit" from the previous style. Everybody else is on the internet and receives their information from there. Superfluous information for these days.
At least they are making the changes. It was about 20 years too late, all the wasteful printing and rehash of old articles.
