  so last night my bible study group was discussing the healing of the blind man in john's gospel.

  the man's parents were reluctant to say much on the subject.

  Of course l was struck by the similarity to the WT disfellowshipping someone. So it seems that they are following an old Jewish practice, who knew ?

  Many/most orthodox religions follow a sort of excommunication. Some surprisingly similar to JW's.

  There is a Netflix show called "Unorthodox" about the struggles of a young woman attempting to live her own life outside of the Hasidic community.

  Another series filmed in Israel is "Shtisel". It is about an orthodox family. One of the things I learned from it is all TV, "worldly" literature/music etc. is forbidden. So as some things are different, the control issues are very much the same. **shiver**

  I'm having a giggle. A cousin of Gilles sad sad sadly passed away a few months ago who was a great friend of my family. I was one of 12 that attended the funeral. (Gilles did send condolences that day, and also his brother who is an elder the family told me.)

  This relative left JW sometime in the 90's, but remained Christian and believed in going to heaven. When Gilles gets up there, there is going to be quite the row.

  I don't believe in either, just having a giggle about Gilles new "status."

  Us little 13yo JW girls used to get a kick out of calling the local AM radio station on request night and ask for "Are You Experienced."

  first off, i have made it real clear with jw's my thoughts on being a jw.

  i'm out, there is no coming back.. second, i'm on their " do not call list" .. so why now all of a sudden my mailbox is getting bombed 💣 by their memorial invites and letters?.

  Reporting hours is still a motivator in the JW world, as it is one of the measuring sticks the corporation uses for their stats and control.

  They are just counting time...nothing more.

  Ding - I think the last I heard from him was last year. The home in Manhattan Beach where he lived for so long was finally sold, and he relocated to Texas. I checked his FB and I don't see any activity. He started a chat in messenger last summer but I was involved with a horrific family tragedy and was not communicating with anybody.

  I know Bill Bowen was in touch with him for awhile, I'm not sure where he is at the moment.

  Randy was one of the first persons I met from this board. He provided information for so many to take a critical look at the WT. I hope he is doing well.

  This explains perfectly how religious folks can have such a disconnect with the suffering of others.

  Watch a couple fellows burn alive in front of you? No biggy, carry on.

  9 billion people destroyed? No biggy. What relief they will be gone so I can have my mansion and pet panda.

  Son/daughter doesn't want to be a JW anymore? They are dead to me. Too bad, but those are the rules. Case in point, (why I'm particularly annoyed), just yesterday I was told that a son of a former friend, (elder), passed away on Tuesday. The son was no longer a JW. I was told last night that the dad will not attend his funeral. What a great witness eh?

  Orthodox religious folks have learned this from their god, and want to be exactly like him.

  IMO the vast majority of people, whether they have any JW upbringing or not, know that cheating on your wife in such a way is a sleazy and dishonest thing to do, and isn't something that a good, decent person does.

  Yes. And what gets me is many were raised JW, with all the "repression" that comes with it. What do most people do? When they are old enough they say "see ya," sow some wild oats, have some fun, get in trouble, learn from it and grow up. But LE wanted to keep his position, and the pretty wife, while furtively pursuing his "needs" online and in brothels. He didn't have an "indiscretion" to make right with his mate...but instead pursued a lying secretive lifestyle for years. What a chickens**t. And all the while selling the line "a voice for the silent majority" and "supporting" CSA victims while contributing to this abusive industry. Which now makes me sick thinking about those victims that confided in him...his personal/private response is probably not what it should have been. Ick.

  I have a long time friend who just left 5 years ago or so. He watches and tells me about videos of some folks who are not activists, but lived similar JW lives, but at some point the train derailed for them, and they share. These have helped him I think, not feel so alone. I don’t watch really as I figured my life out years ago, I did the work without the internet so I don’t need to commiserate about stuff all over again.

  But, half my family is in and I have friends with family in, and we still need to figure out how to deal with things. AND case in point just last week I received a “thinking of you” card from a former Bible student of mine I haven’t spoken to in 25 years. She is the only one still in from my students, I think she’s still in anyway…I have yet to answer. So I’m out 20 years, and still it’s a part of my life.

  So I still don't mind knowing what’s going on currently in the corporation.
