he's a good friend of mine who will have plenty to add here.
(he's written volumes on the dubs) having recently attained some much needed freedom he was able to join the forum.. he may be a little hesitant to come forth at first, but with a little coaxing...he's got a good "coming out of the org.
" story and lots of insight!.

i didn't realise it, but trev just told me that today is one year to the date since i first visited him at his home to do some research on the internet about the wts.
i hadn't been going to all the meetings for a while at that time, and the month before i came here i hadn't been at all, but was unsure, despite my doubts, whether i wanted to leave the jws then or not.
i read on quotes, freeminds and this site, and trev printed some stuff for me to read later.
Blimey you've been busy...impressive number of posts for 11 months on the board.
Happy anniversary and well done from Jerohobo!
as many of you know i`ve just got back to the board in the last little while..what did i learn yesterday?..the generation of 1914 means nothing..nothing!
!..back in the day,you could have been disfellowshipped for such a remark..disfellowshipped!
!..what did you think and how did you feel when you found out the generation of 1914,now means nothing?.....outlaw
Thanks! I wanted the name "Legion" but that had already been taken. I like this one though - it rolls off the tongue nicely.
i've not heard a great deal of df announcements to be fair, but i remember when i was about 9 or 10, i was visiting a friend during the summer vacation.
at the midweek meeting, his elder dad got up to give an announcement.
he began by mentioning a large plant, from the cities botanical gardens that had made the news, that flowered once every 50 years.

I can't remember exactly what he said, but it went along the lines of "we all look forward to seeing that plant bloom again in 50 years time in the new system of things, but we must understand that some of us won't be around to see it then. It is with saddness that we announce that sis X has been disfellowshipped." Queue gasps from the audience.
I am not making this up.
The rest of the DF announcements I have heard have been pretty straight - "X has been disfellowshipped".
Anyone heard anything similar?
Regards
J

I asked this in a post yesterday on the friends forum, but as I understand it now:
Pre 1995 - the "generation" refers to individuals who were alive in 1914. The generation of 1914 would not pass away before the end of the system of things. This meant you would expect the end within 100 years of 1914, give or take.
Post 1995 - the "generation " refers to individuals around at the time of christ's presence. These individuals being independant of 1914 or any other date. The end of the system of things is therefore no longer dependant on 1914.
Is that about right?
I was talking to my Mum (a well read and studious JW and a lovely Lady) yesterday about my plans for a pension and she laughed saying the big-A certainly will have happened, her reasoning being "there aren't enough annointed left for it (the system) to go on much longer".
Does she understand the significance of the change (assuming my summary is correct)?
Do any of the rank and file understand the change?
I bet the posters on this board no more about JW doctrine than the vast majority of practicing JWs (I'm not included in those - I don't know much about doctrine as I never really paid much attention! lol).
cree lake congregation of non-jehovahs witnesses.
my address.
my city.
I would send it with the appropriate modifications mentioned above. In my view, the ideal result in the majority of situations is to be left alone and not have to DA or be DF'd. Nothing will disturb the BOE or the JC more. I assume the bros/sis in the area have heard any gossip about you. Hearing all the stories and not see any action being taken will only cause confusion. You will still technically be a JW and there won't be a thing they can do about it. Go for it.
hello all.. forgive my ignorance, but what exactly was the generation change, and what are the implications for jw doctrine?.
although i rarely missed a meeting until a couple of years ago, this either went over my head or i wasn't listening (most likley).. i'm not the sharpest tool in the box so please keep it simple!
references would be nice.. thanks.
Ok. Only 2 bobo's

some friends of mine have a fairly smart kid, but he is a bit gullible.
he tends to pick up things like from tv adds or stuff from his peers.
since he is going to college or university, i was wondering what would be a good course for him to take to wise him up a bit and be more his own person.
He sounds a bit like me!
Let him get on with it, he'll probably do what he wants anyway. He probably thinks he's clued up already. Most kids do at 18 ish - you can't change it.
hey all,.
i'm practically brain-dead this afternoon, unable to handle anything of any intellectual level to speak of.
so i thought i'd drop by watchtower.org and see what drivel they were passing off these days.. one of the lead articles is "should i get a tattoo?".
I wanted to say what rebel8 said. Damn!
