The double standards continue to amaze me.

You might want to remind your mum that she may one day have grandchildren through you and if she wanted to have anything to do with them she'd better be sensible.

I will never understand the doublestandards either. A friend of mine, who has stopped going to meetings but still believes made a pertinent observation. He said his brothers would have more time for a heroin addict who stole from them, but was studying, than they would for him.

I heard of a young girl (late teens) getting pregnant - her elder father kicked her out. She had to go to a shelter for women. Sane people cannot understand the thought process that makes a father kick out his pregnant teenage girl. Another girl (late teens) got pregnant, claimed she was raped (but did not go to the police), had the child no problems then the "rapist" boyfriend came onto the scene and everything was ignored! Disgraceful.

All the time, especially to the wanky elders who clearly disapprove of my lifestyle, but occaisionally have to talk to me when our paths cross at the KH - it's great in reality; I know they don't want to talk to me, they know I don't want to talk to them but we still smile and exchange pleasantries.

Hello all

1) I would consider going out with anyone suitable provided they were funny/ compatible etc. It would also depend on why they left and if there was a chance they might go back. If they left but still believed it, almost certainly not. If they were really bitter and held a grudge, then almost certainly not as well.

2) I would not actively seek out an ex JW. I think it is unlikely I'll end up with one (mostly cos I'm seeing a never-was-a-JW cracker at the moment anyway!)

That's my view for what it's worth!

It also depends on who you are going with, for example;

going with girlfriend, loved ones (parents/ nan/ fido the dog) not invited = yes

going with parents, loved ones (girlfriend/ fido the dog) not invited = no

i bought an 80gb ipod (which i love dearly) and was just wondering if anyone else has succumb to this "fetish"?

I have to admit I saw "sermon" in the title and couldn't be bothered to listen to it.

I personally liked thinking of the organization as being built by 3 presidents who each died as false prophets.

Can't argue with that.

I enjoyed the fact that when left to just the Bible that people revert to 'normal christianity' after two years.

Ask me in 2 years if i'm Christian.

I liked hearing that they were 'good' people simply on the wrong road. That there IS a correct road which is basically Jesus not any particular religion.

If Jesus floats your boat, so be it. Not my thing though. Ask this to a Bornean tribes person and he'll say "Jesus who?". Are people Christian because Christianity is the "truth" or because they are western? The vast majority of the world would disagree with you on this (Muslims/ Chinese etc). People are a particular religion because they are born into it - no other reason.

I have a strong faith. I know that doesn't bode well in a place of vengeful angry people who have not gotten over there anger against the society and given up on searching for something God has done and given us - love, forgiveness, and life and freedom.

I am not angry with the society. I don't think the majority of ex-JWs are either.

I think to truly move on you must leave the society and find what it is they covered up that is so good for man.

To each their own.

Were you an active "apostate" at assemblies?
What were your prior views concerning "apostates"?
What are your views now?

1) I'm far too young for that!

2) I thought apostates were truly evil people. As a child I used to see them outside the assemblies, but mum and dad would hurry us kids out of the way. I remember seeing the leaflets etc they used to hold up, but was told not to even look at them, so used to look at the floor as we were rushed out of the way. My mental image of an apostate was similar to the 80s books pictures of worldly people - slightly sinister and not to be trusted at all.

3) I have started to wonder where the picketers are nowadays. I've noot seen them for perhaps 14 odd years. Do they still exist? I now do not have any problem with apostates. I've become extremely interested in other peoples views on religion and life, especially ex-JWs. I sooner chat with an "apostate" than anyone else at the moment.
