now on page pg 32 par 4; this writer says that he was not king from 628-618 b.c.

then became king again in 618 b.c.. .

The Watchtower has to change the entire chronological dating because of its perculiar insistence that Jerusalem was destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar in 607 BCE. Nearly all historians date his rule from 605 - 562 BCE. Only the Watchtower stands alone against the tide of facts.

As has been noted by a number of scholars, the "70 years of desolation" spoken of in Jeremiah applies not to Jerusalem alone but to the other nations surrounding Judah as well. (Jeremiah 25:9 - 11, 15) Babylon started its invasions of the "other nations" well before its destruction of Jerusalem. (586 BCE) So, it would seem logical that the 70 years would have been inclusive of all these events.

Why does the great crowd go to memorial?

"do this in remembrance of me"...... ...those words jesus utters,..according to the wt,...is specifically for "the annointed",...right?.

if jesus at the last supper is speaking directly to "the annointed class",...that they should parttake and "do this in remembrance",...then why do the r & f even go to the memorial?.

looking at it through jw eyes,...jesus didn't invite members of "great crowd" to the last supper,...right?

I suppose the Watchtower would justify it by saying the "other sheep" become witnesses to this important event like those attending a wedding or funeral. But the sad part is that the Watchtower has denied the majority of its members to become part of the "family of God" because it does not allow Christians to share in what Christ (and Paul) indicates is an important part of Christian worship. And all of this was the result of Rutherford's contrived interpretation of the "great crowd" and "other sheep."

I smiled at your description of reading the Bible during meetings. This is exactly what I did during the last few meetings I attended. I would wait for the first Bible reference as an excuse to open the Bible and then continued reading through the entire meeting.

I still think that the Watchtower was "right" about some of its doctrinal teachings. (Trinity, Hell and Soul) But many of these were "borrowed" from other religious groups. So, they are not exclusive to the Watchtower Society.

But it was far off the mark when it came to their prophetic interpretations. Once the wrong premise was accepted that Christ came in 1874 or 1914 invisibly in the heavens everything else was bound to be wrong. The leaders then seem to search the scriptures and take out those verses that seem to fit their peculiar views no matter how ridiculous the explanations.

it appears that alot of hanky panky is going on here.

for instance, i know for a fact that some contractors have arrangements to be paid.

I do know that in the past when construction work was done it was done primarily by JW volunteer workers. It some cases it proved to be disasterous. Some years ago, when a circuit assembly building was erected a number of expensive corrections had to be made including tile work, air conditioning, etc. JWs often boast about their efficient and speedy construction projects. But one rarely hears of the shoddy and inefficient work that is done on these projects.

when the arrangement of the 'nethinim' (given ones) was introduced in 1992, they stated that the gb helpers would be taken "mainly from among the great crowd".

"mainly" means that there are some helpers who claim to be of the "annointed".

taking a look at the new gb members, they all were gb helpers.

I assume the only way one could really tell would be at the Memorial celebration when the "partakers" become obvious to all. But I'm sure that the Governing Body has its "helpers" who claim to be anointed waiting in the wings to replace its members as they die off.

Good point! The Watchtower Society never seems to call in those "anointed" ones who are in the congregations. They are largely ignored even though they are suppose to be part of the of the "faithful and discreet slave" class. And now we have more members claiming to be of that class. The Society, instead of rejoicing over this increase, periodically gives a serious warning to those partaking to be sure they are not "partaking unworthily."

succeeding in this, satan would have such cast away much that the lord has provided for his people and has brought forth upon his table through his wise and faithful steward.

he would cause them to cast away "tabernacle shadows," the greater part of the studies in the scriptures, to disregard all the evidence of the second presence of the lord, and to deny, of course, that brother russell filled the office of the wise and faithful steward; to disregard the evidence, scriptural and otherwise, of the harvest time and the harvest work; to put aside all proof of the parallel dispensations and chronology, and hence to refrain from announcing the end of the world and the beginning of the reign of christ.

You are correct. I think that the Society still held to the 1874 date for Christ's "second presence" in 1922. And it's apparent that the Watchtower was still promoting the idea that Russell was that "wise and faithful steward." All of this was stated under the leadership of Rutherford. As noted in the reference anyone ignoring or "putting aside" this "proof" would be yeilding to Satan.

Rutherford must have "yeiled" since he discarded both teachings.

Once the "Nethinim" claim to be of the "anointed" they would no longer be considered Nethinim according to Watchtower logic. So the term "anointed Nethinim" would be a contradiction. But, as I recall, the name "Nethinim" was once used by the Watchtower Society to describe all of the members of the "great crowd" not just those who become "helpers" at the headquarters.

The Watchtower has played the game of "types and anti-types" over the years. And it seems that it can pick and choose its interpretation according to any circumstance. In this case, it was a convenient explanation for the failure of its own expectations of having a "remnant" of the anointed doing most of the supervision at Bethel.

i was df'd in 1976 and lived my whole life thinking the jws have the truth and i just could not live up to the standard and was doomed to die at the big a without question.

Did you have a favorite food at the assemblies (when they sold it there)?

hubby and i got on the topic last night.

he was wondering what i was eating- a frozen jello pudding cup.

i remember getting them at the assemblies, especially the hot summer district assemblies.

Weren't many of the snack foods at the assemblies commercially made? What I do remember is the terrible cafeteria food! JWs would rave about all the good food that was prepared and served. I was a faithful JW at the time, but I often thought "good heavens, if this is good food, what are they getting at home?"
