Religion is a mental illness.
Considering that something like 98% or so of humanity believes in something, and that belief has been universal throughout history, doesn't that sound a tad bit arrogant? I mean, you are essentially saying that the overwhelmingly vast majority of humanity is mentally deranged and that you yourself are not. "Everyone is crazy but me"

Creationism is Stupid, Stupid, STOOOOPID!
by Farkel inok. i used to believe in creationism even after i left the dubs.
i was a braindead window washer at the time.
i don't believe in creationism now, but i do believe in a creator and that is different.

Considering the topic (and title!) of this thread cuts deeply into cherished notions of some people, with very few exceptions, I think the discourse has been quite civil.
The title is not IMHO.

Hey Farkel, when you start a thread calling someones cherished belief "Stupid, stupid, STOOOOPID!" you are inviting a flamewar.
"It's amazing how some people can read things out of something that's not even there."
Half the people probably did not even read the body of the topic because of that title.
Hoping for a more civil discourse,
Respectfully,

I don't understand. Isn't logic counter to mysticism and god belief
Faith and reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth; and God has placed in the human heart a desire to know the truth—in a word, to know himself—so that, by knowing and loving God, men and women may also come to the fullness of truth about themselves

Just look at what scientists are telling us:
15 billion years ago there was a huge release of energy (Big Bang) and almost immediately after that this energy turned very orderly (Anthropic Principle) into specific forces, quarks, atoms, molecules, to develop further into star-systems, stars and planets, for making it possible, one step further, for life to emerge on at least this planet Earth, resulting in the appearance of creative organisms, of which man most stand out in being a culture-creating ‘creature’, pondering on for instance the meaning of life. And all this went on against the all permeating force of decay (Second Law of Thermodynamics), suggesting a persistent drive to grow in complexity, towards an evermore interesting, alive and richly varied universe. Is there a God or anything like that responsible, out there, within us, somewhere ? Left aside any mystical experience one might have or not, my logical brain almost cries out in saying:Yes!
Not very stoooopid, IMHO

Hi Avishai, you asked for takers.
I found this article which dismantles the supposed Mithras/Christ relationship:
http://www.tektonics.org/copycat/mithra.html
Here is another one:

Truth be told, the greatest idolatry being perpetrated today is by those who have substituted finite religious text for an infinite God. The extreme elements within Christianity (and some other zealots) are currently unable to distinguish between God and God’s written word.....
God’s fixed word has in some sense taken the place of God’s infinite being. Idolatry is when one confuses a partial truth for a whole truth, or when one makes a relative into an absolute. As the 18th-century thinker Moses Mendelssohn argued in his book, "Jerusalem," God gave Judaism an oral law in order to act as bulwark against the idolatry of text. What these groups fail to realize is the ultimate infinity of God’s being. The struggle each of us engages in every day is keeping that infinity present.
The Bible is a book about the Revelation, it is not the Revelation itself.
