Hardships and Assemblies
by Sunspot ini just left a post on the "pa convention" thread concerning some of the hardships and difficulties that jws had to (or some here still have to?
) endure just to either get to a convention or what they go through after getting to the convention.. having to trot around from designated doors to the restrooms (rather than being ordered to use the door they told you to) no matter where your family was sitting..... or having you and your family have to climb way too many stairs on the last upper tier to find seats.....while plenty of empty seats remained on the ground floor that were never used that whole day?.
or the designated wts-regulation-sized cooler you had to lug into the stadium because you weren't allowed to leave the site to get a snack or a drink?.

Man, oh man!!! I'm laughing at these now, and so glad I have been away for long enough that I had forgotten... I had totally forgotten about the paper taped over the mirrors in the women's bathrooms! That was so incredibly bizarre!!!!!

hahahahha... great point, DChristopher! And one, indeed, I have not thought of in those terms before. My problem is that I still want my loved ones out of the car before it crashes into the wall, too...

Wow, Sam, well I spent many a year in the Dubs myself, and am now quite happy to report even MORE years OUT. Again, WELCOME, and we are so glad to have you here. Trust me, you will learn more on these boards in a week than you learned in 5 hour-long meetings a week for a year.
I do truly believe in both. I do believe in a higher power... (even when I used the name Jehovah for the One Within the All, I used to think of Him as the ultimate artist and scientist.) But you know what... I just don't know. And that is one of the most awesome things about being out... it feels so great to say I DON'T KNOW. Not "I don't know, but let me get back to you on that after I read a stack of nothing but WTBTS publications and speak with my elders."
Evolution is a scientific fact. We as humans have evolved astoundingly in the past 100 years (look at Victorian shoe sizes and average life spans, if nothing else.) The thought that a higher power might have created all this way is perfectly alright with me.
If, by creation, you mean, (and I believe you do,) the Adam and Eve story, well... having just recently learned tremendous tidbits on the history of the BIBLE ITSELF, I'm not one to mince words on this book which has been through so many translations and more importantly, transitions.
Fact is... my core beliefs at this point are much more bizarre. *grin* More along the lines of "we really might just be a convincing holodeck", and, of course, if we don't take the red pill, how are we to ever know? Plato's "cave" analogy. -

I once said, "Gosh" and my friend (I still love her dearly, by the way) told me that was an "unacceptable euphamism." I cracked up.

Did u want to leave the org bcause u were doing something immoral?
by Will2Power in..and then sought to justify your leaving the organisation/religion by researching websites like this (to salve your conscience, justify continuing in your pleasurable but unscriptural lifestyle), or did you sincerely leave purely because you discovered certain false teachings, scandals, etc, while still living a moral, christian lifestyle?
be honest now, i mean really honest.
(this is not meant to offend anyone but viewed like a survey).

Absolutely not. I left because I knew that people were being wrongfully shunned, and I knew without doubt that Jehovah was NOT amused, and of course that meant that they did NOT have the spirit of Jehovah on their side, no matter HOW sincere they are.
The irony, of course, is that by realizing just how wrong and un-Christ-like shunning is, I was fully aware that I was bringing that same fate upon myself voluntarily. Loving org, that one.
I will say that is one of the interesting points in my conversations with my beloved inactive but stubbornly pro-JW family member. I tell him that I left because they were wrong, and he left so he could go be bad for a while. I think that is why he clings to them even though I can't foresee him ever living the life again... he needs to forgive himself before he can see fault with the WTBTS. It seems that in heaping ashes upon one's head, enough ash gets into one's eyes to blind... shall we say.
