Oh, yes, and dear friends of mine are or were Buddhists... Buddhists ROCK.
Local Thai temples often have a day where they have food for all... cheap or free (yum! Thai food!) usually on a weekend day. It is good to go and mingle in during this informal and open time.

Buddhism, Taoism, Meditation, and any other Non-Christian Journeys...
by exjdub inthere have been a lot of christian threads lately, so i thought that i would open a topic for other journeys.
because there is no way i will ever be a christian again because the curtain has been opened and i can see behind it, however i have an open mind and have started some meditation practices.
i have been thinking about visiting a buddhist temple out of curiosity.

I sought no path for many, many years... but found myself gravitating towards more Pagan rituals and beliefs. I then found a person/sanctuary/place of worship and belief system I love... a wonderful Mary of Magdala Gnostic tradition.
Odd, even though I now consider myself to be a Gnostic, it really doesn't matter to me if there is any truth to their mythology or even if Jesus Christ ever existed at all. I am happy experiencing the journey, and it finally feels good to say, "I don't know." -

Can someone recommend a good 'Christian' forum?
by AK - Jeff ini still consider myself a christian, and would like to find a forum where good discussions about faith and christianity are featured.
i love the give and take here - and will not be abandoning this forum - i just want to add a dimension to my spiritual thinking that seems missing at the moment.
i do not attend church.

wow
by Amanda001 ini had no idea that i'd get so many responses!
basically, in my internet browsing, i stumbled across this site.
i think i was so upset by what i had found out about jw's, that i didn't really read other postings, and so i just had to write down what i felt as quickly as thoughts were coming into my head.

HOORAY!
I'm so happy you came back, Amanda001! I was hoping you might check back to see if anyone responded, and of course, as you see, we did with a fury!
I do so hope you stick around.
Cheers!
Baba
Oh, and by the way, it's not obvious, but in order to keep paragraph divisions you may have already had in your post, you need to UNCHECK the "html formatting" box and CHECK the "automatic cr/lf" box. -

I need a new bible
by Mrs Smith ini still own my new world translation bible and i really would like to buy a new bible.
there are so many translations out there i don't know which one to get.
any advice?.

Understood.
No assumptions or disrespect intended, Ms. Smith! I have just really enjoyed exploring them, myself, lately... especially with all the excitement about the Gospel of Judas scuttlebutt, etc.! I have been quite amused at how unraveled so many Christians got at the thought of the Gospel of Judas. -

Jeff it occured to me that Google has "groups", I did a search and came up with this page, explore this and see if you come up with anything interesting...
Sorry again for the inactive link, I don't use Internet Exploder and my links aren't active, but copy and paste:
http://groups.google.com/groups/dir?lnk=nhpsfg&hl=en&q=christian&qt_s=Search+for+a+group
There's all kinds of groups in there! -

A good one? Unfortunately the answer is "NO" as there is just TOO much INFIGHTING (OHHHHhhhh, the IRONY) but Craigslist has a Religious forum where a lot of Christians (and non-Christians) hang out for a debate.
Sorry not an active link but it may be found here:
http://forums.craigslist.org/?forumID=59
They also have a Spirituality forum.
If you post this same question there, some there might have a better recommendation. -

I never knew you, Puternut... but here I am in sorrow for the loss of you. If only you could have perceived how important you were to an endless array of people!
I hope you have found the peace and love and joy you felt were remiss.
Love. -

Are we no different than JWs when it comes to expectations?
by undercover ini find it interesting that a lot of people who came out of the jw experience still have expectations of "big" things to come.. as ex-jws, we can quote wt publications and list references showing all the instances where the "end" has been predicted and we list all the failures of their predictions and hopes.. a lot of us use those failed expectations as a basis for no longer accepting the wts as god's organization on earth.. yet, a lot of people leave the jws, then become infatuated with the notion that the "end" of the wts or jws is imminent.. threads pop up from time to time about "how long can the wts last?
" or "what big changes are about to happen?
" etc.. when i read some of these, i'm reminded of jws and how they use the "evidence" of earthquakes, famine, disease and wars and reports of wars as "evidence" for the "end" being so close.. have we traded on "end times" belief for another?

Bah, I think it's the same reason that all news is becoming "FOX" news... i.e. rediculously sensationalized, even when there's really nothing to report. People look for something more exciting to happen to take them out of the day-to-day.
It definitely sells... sensationalism is big money, but it it definitely not NEWS... and certainly not TRUTH in journalism...
Good point, though, Undercover, I have had similar thoughts about all of the "stirred-up, something's happening" posts around here myself. -
