Were you treated differently after you were baptised?
by little1 inthe jw i dated hung around for 14 years before finally being baptised (i don't know how he got away with that).
i've heard that the way they treat you changes after you've signed on the dotted line, that the gloves come off and they start turning the screws.
i'd like to know if this was true for any of you and what your experiences in this area are.. thanks, little1

My story
by ChimChim ini was never baptised because i was to young, i was in it until i was 5 years old.
but it ruined my life and still is because my dad, nanny, grandfather, my step nanny, my aunt and uncle...all on my dads side of the family are still in it, so i get lectured alot about things that have to do with the "truth" or i hear him talking about and all i think it, "what a bunch of garbage.
he never really yells at me, i don't think he can because he barely ever see's me, i try to avoid going there as much as possible.

ChimChim- good job at holding out. It is hard for daddies girl to go against him, but it seems like you are doing it.

I agree with Blondie. They cannot count the time (with a clear conscience) that they spend talking to you, once you have become baptized. Sometimes in a car group we would drive for half an hour just to say hello to brother or sister X?s book study so that they could feel the warmth of the organization. Once, that person was ?in? then we would drop them in favor of someone else?s book study.
I guess that for a while I tried to do the thing that they wanted you to do, go out in field service, help out in the congregation, answer during the studies, but that was just enough to get them off of your back. They would stop coming over to my house to check on the family?s welfare, we had to find our own group to hang out with after the meeting (not included in everyone else?s), not invited with everybody?s car group (my family actually had to make its own car group at times because everybody else already had theirs).
The thing that I hated was that now the elders felt that they had me by my strings. Before I was baptized I could make observations that I did not like, got the answers or condolences that showed they had gone to the trouble to investigate what I had said. After baptism I would get a response that was disheartening, as if Satan had made me make that statement. And all of the elders that had peon jobs or were looked down upon by their family had no problem telling me and my family what to do, how to act and what was expected.

More push over "bad assoc." online
by Mysterious init was at the meeting i ducked out of yesterday, mom told me all the highlights.
apparently they are starting to crack down on online gaming because it lets you associate with "worldly" people.
this was further extended to chat (which they have been after for years) and online communities.

Information control can only last for a certain time and only for the hard liners. With the massive amounts of information out there it is truly a good time for apostates and people that want to get out.

The problem of Noah's flood and the origins of the Indo-European languagues
by badboy injehovah's witnesses say noah's flood happened c.2000bc.. interestingly a possible problem arises with the origins of the indo-european languagues b/c, which linguists have calcaluated(sp?
)2 have originated about 8,900 years ago using a cognate database, hittite being near the root of the ie family followed by tocharian ,greek and armenian.. there4 the ie languagues spread with agriculture in2 europe arriving in scotland 5500 years ago.. question?.
how will they explain this?

the problem that I find with Language and the Tower of Babel story is that language can be traced back to common roots. So that most of the languages that we have today evolved from earlier languages and were not created all at once, as the account says. If an all powerfull being was to create many different languages, I would think that they would be completely different and not as similar as they are.

I have heard that the watchtower makes a hidden reference to evolution in the fact that they say Noah took two of every kind of animal, to make up for all of the room that would be required. This way he would only include two giraffes, rather that two of every species of giraffe; two butterflies, rather than two of every species; etc.. Then they let the reader roll of into thier natural stupid state that all JW literature puts you into so that you will not ask the question of how all of the species came back to populate the planet (evolution after Noah).
this does not help me to believe the Noah story or feel like I need to get into a disscusion about it.

Passing the time at boring meetings
by jws ini was doing some cleaning this weekend and ran across a drawer with a few of my old calculators, including my very first one.
today they have ones that are credit-card sized that do more.
but i remember getting it when i was about 12 and in 6th or 7th grade and at that time in the late 70's a calculator this size was still sort of a gadget.. for some reason the first thing that bounced into my mind when i pulled it out and looked at it was my old hall at the time.

This was one of the first books that made me see the light of the watchtower propoganda machine. Of course, this was a personal experience, not shared by my wife.
