  i started a thread after i finished the first chapter of this book entitled something like, i'm an atheist.

  i finished chapter three and i have to backtrack a bit, but i also feel the need to explain why since i was so vocal.. first, let me say that i think everyon should read the first two chapters of the god delusion by richard dawkins.

  he brings up some very important points about religion and about science's place in our world.

  Death of a generation

  terry's thread http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/7/127651/1.ashx got me to thinking about this.. one of the characteristics of the wts is to "weather the storm" of a major disappointment, and, as evidenced by the last two major cycles, count on the death (as much in a literal sense as a figurative one) of the generation of jws that went through that debacle...and thence to recommence with the eschatological emphasis as if nothing had happened.. the post-1925 period is perhaps even more exemplative of this than the post-1914 period, because a good many bible students, grasping at every straw to salvage their belief system, swallowed the chronological recalculations and jubilee-cycle antitype interpretations, which extended 1914 to 1925. but 1925 was the last straw for most of them.

  it initiated a major revolt among the rank-and-file (and especially the elders...the leaders of "that generation") which haunted the wts for the next 20 years, and a chronological review of the watchtower articles and books during the entire rutherford period shows a preoccupation with vilifying those who dared to remind of that debacle.. with the 50s came a major expansion in the wts, and a consequent dilution of that disillusioned group.

  those that were still alive, and who were still jws, had by that time invested so much of their lives into that way of life that...well, how could they find the muster to dump off 40 years of life energy and say, finally, "well, i was wrong, wasn't i?

  You make me feel really old. I graduated from high school in the late 1960's and spent the next thirty years living the (life) lie of a good JW. Pioneering, recruiting, studying, meetings, assemblies,quick-builds, MS, BS conductor, public talks, Etc.
  
  The next thirty years are my best hope now.
  
  Are you sure about less than ten percent of those that went through the 1975 lie are still in JWdom??? That amount can't be right, can it????
  
  I know many that gave up much to be prepared for the end at 1975. One young witless even gave up his Playboy mag collection, hoping that would help save him. That collection would be worth big bucks today. Maybe his retirement account.
  
  Oh well!!! I am actually enjoying sorting the false from true now. A very big job indeed!!!!

  The slow fade is an art worth learning! When asked questions by Dubs intent on intrapping you again in JWdom, always reply with a "sincere" question. If you answer with questions you will always be safe.
  
  Other good replies, "I'm sorry I am busy right now."---"I can't talk now, I have to be somewhere in 5 no 3 minutes."---"I doubt if I can make it to the meeting that day." Etc.
  
  Be kind but don't give in.

  I give him two weeks at the most. Even if he has to chew his NUTSACK off to escape, I bet he'll be back with us apostates, his true family.

  i've been posting here for quite a long time, so long in fact that it just doesn't feel right that my wife isn't a part of it.

  earlier today i created an account for her with the username heron, she'll know why.

  i'm not sure if my wife will ever post here but i would feel much more comfortable knowing she is aware that i do.. this is the one post i am going to ask her to read.. so, i'd really appreciate it if you could say hello to my lovely wife.

  Welcome!! I am mostly a lurker but do occasionally post. Welcoming you is a worthy reason to post. I have learned more JW history here than by just reading JW books and magazines. I am second generation JW indoctrinated.
  
  I think that JWD has definitely speeded up my recovery time. Even just reading the many posts here will help.

  Have you heard about a large freeway being built from central Mexico to Canada? Several people that I know from Texas have said that they know of family farms that have been disected for road right-of-way to be used for this purpose.
  
  Do any of you posters from Texas know anything about this? I guess there is some political debate about this among some Texans. I guess it is supposed to be a very big road. But I have heard that every thing is bigger in Texas.

  after several years of a great friendship with diane (previously posted as xena) things have started to really come together recently and i've succumbed to making an honest woman of her (or at least as honest as it's possible to make her.

  last night (xmas day) i popped the question and she agreed to marry me (i wonder if she knows what she's let herself in for!!!)..

  as you may know rutherford completly changed the original teachings and structure of the watchtower bible and tract society.some say he and his followers were cursed from that day forward.....what you may not know is,rutherford died of "rectal cancer"..the doctors first noticed a crack in his bum.as things degenerated in that area,a small hole appeared.finally it rotted out and he died..to this very day,every jehovah`s witness has died with a hole in thier bum.....coincidence or curse?

  In 1963 I attended a convention and approved a resolution that had this sentence at the beginning of paragraph eight, "That we will continue to look to Him as the great Sun from whom comes our enlightenment,guidance and healing."
  
  Looking to Him as the great Sun may be appropriate on this day. Does that sound kind of un-JW?? Well good!!!
