Hi from Spain! Yesterday was one of the most important days in my life: i told my mom i didn't want to go to meetings anymore. All began in december, when i started to stop going. I live in Madrid but my mother lives 300 km in another city. I usually told the elders of my congregation in Madrid that I was in that city for long times. It worked at the beginning until tomorrow one of the elders give a phone call at home and my mother answer it. Then all turn down. My mother told me when was the last time I give the report and then I told her all the truth. Amazingly she has reacted in a manner I didn't expected her to. He was quite comprenhensive, but I can feel her disapointed after a hole life trying to convert me. I cried. There was so mucho emotions on the table. I told her I didn't want to talk with ANY elder in this city or in Madrid. Just give me alone, I have to think (but I have thought enough). Now i feel strange, I don't know how to react, what to say, how treat her... Well, I need some support. I will read your comments, thanks a lot in advance!

Wow!!! That's sounds a little bit of a conspiracy theory!!! So, the GB doesn't have any control at all????? Is the Corp which really governs??? Mmmm.... it's sounds weird. I think that the president is a puppet, as the rest of president of the corporations.

Gary... but I think Don is an instrument that the GB uses as he pleases. I mean... Don Adans will do whatever the GB requires. If he wanted to change something he could be probably be removes by someone the GB relays on.

so romantic, so meaningful.
is it just me, or is that marriage vow right out of the frickin' twilight zone?

Do the members pay for the litterature?
by Hellrider ini am discussing something on the "discussion"-part of wikipedia (on jehovahs witnesses) in my country.
a person there claims that the witnesses pays nothing for the litterature they receive from the watchtower.
is this true?

Main JW still pay for some costs BUT in general I think they contribute less than before. In the congregation where I'm staying now for 2 years I never paid nothing. I can tell you one thing: I remember several years ago (2003 I think) here in Spain were held 3 international conventions. My mother and two grand-parents give my 80 $ to put on the contribution box. Finally I din't through on that box, I kept for myself :p

i want you to discuss about jw weddings... i mean... why there is no oficial ceremony, as for example baptisms?
here, in spain where i live, the elder only give a speech about marriage&family but always they say that the marriage have been already made at the council-house (it's correct this word?

Cristians (first century, etc) need goverment permission to perform their wedings??? This is the quid of the question.

I think that the Catholic Church (by a covenant between Spain and Vatican years years ago) is the only religion that performs weddings, but actually in the same ceremony they make the civil register of the wedding. But anyway, my question is not about making a wedding by someone. I mean... maybe the goverment is the only one with autority to make valid the wedding (which is logical because we live in the world). My question is ... WHY THE WITNESSES DON'T PERFORM THEIR OWN CEREMONY BEFORE GOD AND THE CONGREGATION??? WHY THEY DON'T RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN AUTORITY TO DO WEDDINGS (AT LEAST FOR THEM or AT A CONGREGATIONAL LEVEL) AS THEY RECOGNIZE THEIR OWN AUTORITY TO GO PREACHING WHERE THEY WANT?

In Spain JW's are a religion, there are no restrictions in that sense. However, the do not performe the wedding as Blondie has just outlined before. The only do (sometimes, not always) the vows. Nothing else. They always say that the wedding have took in the council. Just one thing: mormons believe in eternal marriage, and the do their ceremonies and they consider holy that ceremony. Also they register in the council the marriage, but they know that the marriage WHICH IS MORE VALUABLE is the one of the religion. That's the point of my question. Why the do not consider that kind of holy the marriage on a KH? There are some wedings made by JW (maybe with no believers) that are still considered as weddings without passing through the KH.
