so i've been a lurked on this site for about 15 years, thank goodness for dial up internet.... anyway my fade has been working off and on for that long but my whole family is still in including my kid.
at this point i have started dating a worldly person.
he is wiling to put onthe facade of being a witness so i don't have to lose my family.
Before subjecting your mate to the phony publisher idea, I would simply attempt to be more honest that he is not a JW. You can always try to win back your family a little bit by your half-assed participation in meetings for awhile if they feel the need to shun you.
If that didn't work, then I would let the people go rather than try to keep up such a deception.
i had an interesting conversation with a fellow ex-jw yesterday.
for the sake of this post lets call her "katie".
katie is a former pioneer who suddenly stopped attending meetings and managed to be left alone by the elders.
Wow, and I thought I was really "out there" as an elder telling people that they just do not need to tell the elders everything they do.

As far as books for children, they have pretty much given up recruiting adults so they need to stay current with new exciting stuff....or at least new.

my jw mother called me on friday and asked me if i could do something on saturday.
i was sure my wife would ask me if anyone asked about her, and what i said.

My Name is of No Consequence, the real reason they cannot say is that not celebrating birthdays makes a Witness avoid non-JW family gatherings and makes the children have to avoid "worldly" children from school when they have parties. Anniversaries are ideally to be between two JW's, and maybe Governing Body members' wives said "You AIN'T taking away anniversaries just to get out of buying me a present." Or......

I have posted less and less personal threads because less and less JW-related activity has happened in my life. But every now and then, something does happen.
So my sister on my dad's side scheduled a birthday party for her 1 year old this past Saturday. ( Nobody on that side is a JW.)
My JW mother called me on Friday and asked me if I could do something on Saturday. I mentioned the birthday party for my 1 year old niece and said I wasn't free. My mother's first response was " Your wife is going to a birthday party!?" I told her no, that just I was going but went further to say " If my wife went, it would be to see family. What would be wrong with that?" She didn't answer.
At the birthday party, I was asked about my wife. I said how her religion doesn't allow her to attend birthday parties. I was sure my wife would ask me if anyone asked about her, and what I said. It's just something she would always do. I was going to tell her the truth and mention what I said. Maybe her JW senses kicked in, because she never asked- very much atypical for her.
So no discussion of the party was had. By the way, no one was beheaded at the party.

i read on another thread how this site has helped another user and that for them it has been a form of therapy.. for me yes, jwn has most certainly been a form of therapy.. i recall the days i first came to jwn (in 2004) and couldn't believe i had found people who were of the same opinion as myself in regards to the society.
it was this site that led me to reading ray franz's book 'crisis of conscience' which i read twice within a week.
it also led me to jw facts that goes into every nook and cranny regarding the society's teachings, policies and history.. note: i also visit many other sites and watch you tube videos a lot, but gravitate here most of the time.. coming here to express my inner most thoughts and feelings has helped me no end and allows me to overcome my frustrations.
I used to need to come here every day. I still do sometimes. This forum was definitely an important part of my therapy- discussing like problems with like-minded people that I don't need to explain JW things to.
Your pie chart is right. But the rumor mill at the Kingdom Hall is that everyone left for all those other reasons. Can't be a problem with the truth.

i heard this on the youtube channel - bad jw round table discussions and i normally don't give much thought to rumours, i did find this one interesting.one of the guys on the channel said that there are plans that 'the other sheep' will be told not to attend any future memorials.he was asked how credible was this and he said that it is talk going around by those in the know, just like there had been those that knew about the fairly recent new edition of the bible being in production.even if this is probably just a rumour, the idea has a lot of merit.
the benefits for the organization outweigh the negatives and would fit in with their current direction.here are some of the benefits, for the org.
that could come from it- the biggest benefit would come from not having to accommodate so many attendants, which are more than double a normal meeting.
I try I try I try to guess what they might do. They love control-based activity like field-recruiting and 5 meetings a week. But one thing that overrides control is money. They ditched the book study quite easily.
So, the cost of the Memorial is all on the local congregations. All that figuring out how to fit so many people into one Kingdom Hall or rented facility on the same night is not their problem......unless.....they plan to cram even more people into less Kingdom Halls.
So, here's my wild speculations on how and why this could be true. Emphasis on "wild."
1. They are actually calculating a loss of money on all those invitations. Sure, more inactive and family of JW's come to the Memorial than any other meeting. Sure, the JW's drag their "Bible studies" to the event. But do they stuff the donation box???
2. They have too many fake anointed and will stop counting. They will have regional Memorials where only the elders will know about it and will be instructed to only tell JW's in good standing who claim to be of the anointed where they are held. I mean- a genuine "anointed" must be a JW in good standing, right??? They can easily make a Watchtower magazine study for everyone else that week. This way, no need for cramming any extra meetings into a single hall on a single night.
3. It could become a special live internet thing where elders are instructed to help the old ancient elderly "anointed" ones to see it and have some wine and crackers. Others are welcome to watch at home and remember to put money in the box next Sunday.
I don't really believe this would happen. They currently still say the Memorial is "the most sacred event." But hey, I really believed Donald Trump would never win his election.
