  i am a nonjw.

  i posed a couple of very straightforward questions to my mil and asked if she or any other jw would please explain them to me?

  i've read alot of jw material from this time period and i find very little in the way of clarification.

  Okay, there is no true explanation for what you are asking. The problem is this-

  There was no clear class of FDS until 1935. That's when JW's told the rank and file
  that there were some going to heaven and some living forever on earth.
  There never was a turnover of power from FDS to GB. The leader was the president
  of the corporation, his board of directors was the Governing Body, but they did
  whatever he said, until 1975 (give or take a year) when the board voted to take
  control over the president.

  The JW's cannot explain the FDS giving authority to the GB, because they slowly
  convinced them that it has always been that way, when the FDS actually never
  had any say-so in any matters.

  i'm the 42 yo lesbian with a jw roommate.

  my question is about ownership of the kingdom halls.

  Just to point out their greediness in one area-

  They had that video shown by CO's about building KH's in poor countries. They were trying to gather donations for this work.

  After they build the KH, the poor JW's have to pay back an agreed upon loan to the WTS, so the donated money gets put back.

  in 1995 the wts as time finally caught up with them, they had to yield to the inevitable and admit that its hitherto interpretation of the so called 1914 last generation was erroneous.

  to all intents and purposes the end was indefinitely posrponed it could be centuries away according to the new explanation.

  yet the r&f do not seem to realise these implications and are apparently suffering from collective blindness they still believe the end is as near as it was before 1995, just round the corner.

  I think that they allowed the issue to die down by not mentioning anything about 1995's Generation change, focusing on other things, then started applying gentle pressure again to keep JW's doing what they always should be doing.

  Doctrine that is not constantly repeated is forgotten.

  I enjoy how you've really thought things thru.

  I could see someone like Fred Franz proposing this. It would take a bunch of readjusting to
  get the average JW to accept this. This is what would happen to most, though-
  They will install the Library at home and access the internet at work, or from a laptop that
  never uses the Library. They would never install the Library, just use the older ones.

  Still, this measure would only slow the process down some, it would stop it.

  You called it pretty good. There is definitely going to be a downward spiral in the organization.
  I get a laugh from current JW friends with every new developement in the News. "See, the end is
  right around the corner, here's more proof that the org. was right." I don't recall school shootings
  or hurricanes mentioned as part of the sign. New students will drop and many will start looking
  elsewhere from the org. starting on the internet.

  I had thought of that before. My thoughts-

  No.1- This will mainly effect recruitment at first. People will be so accustomed to googling before accepting things, that Bible students will catch the misleading statements and will learn from apostates before continuing a study.

  No. 2- It may very well die from aging. I agree with that, but the rest... The idea of making the use of internet a disfellowshipping offense will have a reverse effect on a vast number. "What are they hiding? I use the internet for valid reasons- hotels, travel, cheap contact with friends. I won't tell them."

  Blondie states it correctly. Just to add-

  The WTS will normally not loan money to a congregation to build a hall, unless they already OWN the land, so sometimes the congregation will get a commercial loan for that reason (land and building). Loans are mainly for materials.

  Their arrangement is interesting in that they never own the land unless the congregation(s) within are dissolved. This means the congregation can sell it and use the money for a new location, if they need a bigger or better place.

  I do not defend the WTS, but these are ordinary arrangements, typical, and out in the open. They may be evil, greedy, liars, but many religions have similar arrangements.

  i have just put together a table with percentages that highlights quite simply what a jw can and can not have.

  the wts does not present it in this simple format, as graphically it is quite obvious how senseless their stand is.

  while at the great corporate monster we call walley world, i ran into my uncle and aunt.

  all of my family with the exception of my parents are not and have never been in the truth.

  because of this i never really saw them much growing up.

  I never totally lost family that are not JW, and have already confided in one of them about my fade.
  It's very helpful to have family support.

  nobody ever said that the end was coming in 1975.. all the hype about this date that has continued all the way down through today came from a talk in the early 70's by fred franz.

  in this talk, franz pointed out the significance of the 7 creative days and how they correspond with 1,000-year time intervals.. he then said, "could the end come in 1975?

  there's so much wrong with jehovah's witnesses from their rigid legalism to their faux love, but let's call a spade a spade about the 1975 thing..

  But they never said it "in Jehovah's name."
