Spinal injections are just like you said-helpful for some and not for others. When they help, they're great. They are not magic cures without risks, however. Long term steroid use can have a laundry list of nasty side effects, such as diabetes, brittle bones, thin skin, weaker immune system, etc. Even though they are injected directly in the area of pain, your whole body is still being affected by it. I think they're very useful, but, as a nurse, I wouldn't rely on them for long term relief. It's better to find the source of the problem and fix it, if possible, even if it means surgery, for a long term solution.

Spinal steroid injections.
by BrentR inlast wed i got a spinal epidural steroid injection and for the first time in many years i am back pain free.
i am curious as to how many people have had them that experienced an improvement or did not.. i am a licensed massage therapist and i work in conjunction with a chiropractic clinic.
we see most people after they have tried most or all of the traditional medical treatments and have not had any relief.

How did you dispose of your JW books? (Or did you?)
by exwitless inlittle drummer boy and i have a small house and we do not have room for the wasted space all of these books are creating.
here's a brief rundown of what we have:.
several nwt hardcover bibles, chinese bibles (lots of chinese students in our town), insight on the scriptures, concordances, a few bound volumes, song books, km books, reasoning books, the entire bible on audio tape, and more.

Gregor-makes me really wish I had a fireplace!
For a few of you who've asked: I don't have any KMs. Just the KM hardcover book.
I have the WT bound volumes for 1984, 1988, and 1990 (only because someone gave them to us when we were first assimilated.) Also not mentioned before, I have the "Proclaimers" book.
I also have 2 more newly released books: What Does the Bible Really Teach? and Live With Jehovah's Day in Mind.

Did you just throw them in the trash? Burn them? Use them for target practice?
Does anyone need anything we have?

LovesDubs-so sorry to hear that you're having a hard time with this. I can't completely relate because my son is only 9. But your post made me think about something my boss says on occasion: "Ah, mother's guilt: the gift that keeps on giving."
I can't imagine that there's one single parent out there who raises their kids, sits back, and says "Yep, no regrets. I couldn't have done better if I tried. Never made a mistake raising my kids." We all have regrets and sadness when we realize that we, as parents, are not superheros after all. We're just people who sorta have to "wing it" day by day. Don't focus on what you can't change. Be proud of your kids and encourage them to pursue their dreams, and don't beat yourself up. Life does that to us plenty enough as it is.

Specific banned shows, songs, etc...?
by AllAlongTheWatchtower ini know the society tells people not to listen to rock n roll cause its from teh satan, not to watch r rated movies because they're "worldly", etc.
but i was wondering if folks had any specific instances where one song, one show, one movie, or whatever was singled out as being particularly 'evil', and banned on an individual basis?
i was never a jw, but was in the worldwide church of god...the two are rather similar, i've seen many (and made quite a few myself) comparisons on the board; and i can remember as a child that every once in a while certain things would get brought up as being more evil and worldly than others.. examples of specific bans:.

In our former congregation, there was an ultra-pure elder, married with three small kids. He said he would NEVER let his children watch Barney, because Barney practices magic (i.e. practices divination of evil spirits).

Greetings, oh good holder of this fine house. We cometh to you this fine morning to share with thee a message of good news. Doest thou agree we need good news, with such badness closing in on us each day? Why, it is heard that children are being thrown into the dens of lions. Women are forced to labor many hours each day, carrying water to and fro the well. Men who depend on the catching of fish for the caring of their families are finding mysterious tears in their nets. May I share a thought with you from this scroll printing called the "Tower From Which One Watches"? It's here in paragraph XII. (unrolls scroll, which falls to the feet of the householder.)
Forgive me, fine scroll pedler. For as you can see, I have many children I must tend to, and whilst we have been talking, my leavened bread burneth in the cooking oven. Please, take thine scrolls elsewhere, for my husband is a fine scribe at the local synagogue, and he will no doubt become enraged that I have permitted thee to speak to me this fine morning. (slams door)
(Publisher turns slowly and begins his walk back to his camel group who is waiting for him on the street.) Woe is me, who has not yet placed a single scroll today. Let us now refresh ourselves, for the hour is just before noon, and the time for a rest has arrived. Shall we go to McDaniel's?
(OK, so this was funnier in my head. Maybe some of you wittier folks can add to it?)

OK, explain your hate. Or is this just a "let's see if I can rile up the women on this forum for no good reason" thread?

I Lost Everything Today

a dfd friend whom i've been supporting through his mental distress and suicidal tendencies has done me a very strange turn.

CoCo - I feel for you. How awful to be caught in the middle of something like this. However, it is very possible that your friends and family will see through this "friend" of yours and take into account that he has "mental distress and suicidal tendencies". If it can at all be traced back to him, they'll see it. If they don't, they are unfortunately victims of the WT's mind control, and you alone can't fix that. Don't let anyone pressure you into "confessing" anything or "admitting" any wrongdoing. Stand strong and hang in there.
