i would like those of you former jws turned christian to post here.

specific denominations can be mentioned.

i'd just like to get an idea of how many of you there are.

Mrs Smith is further along the path away from the JW's than I. I have been to a Catholic church and one or two other smaller christian fellowships, but we go to the Methodist church. It suits my personality and I feel comfortable there. Jesus was a Jew, and you cannot lable him into any specific group. Thus I am Christian, I follow Christ.

The body of Christ is spread around the globe. This makes my fellow Christians, wherever they go and worship, my family.

You don't spend all your time in a building or church. You live and work and walk every day with Christ. I feel that is what makes you a Christian. Not where you spend a few hours every week.

Strange Talks

This happened in the ministerial service meeting. The MS started his part on the program but it was soon evident that he was not firing on all cylinders. His speech was monotone, slurred even. Then he completely lost the plot and stared at his notes as if it was all in hebrew! He mumbled something and an elder walked up to get him off the stage. The teenagers in the cong was snickering, the younger ones said loudly "what is wrong with him mommy?"

First attempt from the elder to lovingly help our poor alchohol laden brother, did not go well. He claimed "I must finishhhh my talksh Bruvver!"

He did not finish. He was now marched ( dragged) off stage.

I was astounded, amused but did not laugh as I wished that I had a drink or two in when sitting through those meetings, Our dear brother was not seen at meetings for about three weeks. No 'marking' or public reproof. I suppose the Judicial Committee could sympathise with the need to drink before you retell lies in public. Must help I suppose.

as a fader i felt delighted at clinking glasses at a pub.

I Had my first birthday party. It was my 40Th. Loved it! I had friends that wanted that one day to be special to me. They even sang 'Happy Birthday' That was the coolest thing. It was partly surreal, as if my Presliding Oversteer father was about to walk in.

That and saying 'Bless you' when someone sneezes. LOL I still chuckle when I do that.

Elders and their wives/families

i used to wonder just how did elders and wives cope with all that the borg demanded from them (late meetings after the meetings, shepherding, attending/items at assemblies, ministry etc, etc)- did you guys ever feel resentful or sad that you weren't spending more time with your soul mate/family?

My mom became more upset about all the time away from the family as the years went on. I used to sit at the back of the hall with the other families waiting for the elders to finish their 'emergency meetings' in the side hall. These became a regular thing.

I had a father who was in fact 'missing' most of the time because he was off helping some other family with their problems.

I know my sister did not like it, but we all just accepted it. Looking back, I was denied access to my father. He was either shepperding, field service, judicial comittee meetings or preparing for a talk to be given in another congregation. We would be dragged with to listen to the same talk, (that I heard so many times I could give it myself!) and had to smile and be the 'happy' family.

I was angry for a while when I realised what a waste it all is. Now I am just pissed off.

Was it ever to your advantage to say that you were a JW?

maybe during an interview, "hey, i'm a jw", you can trust me....lol.

the elders always told us that jehovah's name opens doors.. well, not in my case, how about you?.

At first I thought I would be able to recall a few at least. Now I cannot truthfully say that it was an advantage, ever!

I have been an 'in-your-face' JW in the past, that would take on the 'fine fight' at a moments notice. All I managed to do was piss people off!

if you had your chance who would you want to meet face to face, talk to them, spend some time picking their brain, have a dinner with, get to know better?.

i have many but want to hold off for now!!!.

my in laws on the other hand know nothing.

they just know that we no longer go to meetings.

The New World Translation is a Mess

the new world translation (nwt) contains thousands of serious errors.

the following regarding john 1:1, one of the most noteworthy verses to jehovah's witness and ex-jehovah's witnesses alike, provides a case example of how and why the nwt cannot be trusted.

there some few scholars that translate the word was "a god" or "a god" or "divine" but they are in the very low percentages.. in greek john 1:1 says: "en arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos.

I still have my NWT. When I read a passage in the NIV or KJV, I tend to have a quick look and see how the NWT translates it. In the New testemant it is almost always written in such a difficult way, that the scripture becomes impossible to understand.

Caine, I understand the need to 'get back in' if your family & Friends are shunning you. However, you have seen how unscriptural disfellowshipping is. They showed you no brotherly love, have they? Were they actively concerned about your spritual welfare? Rhetorical question, sorry.

Being depressed is a symptom I experienced 'inside' the Borg because I could not achieve the standard required. Not enough field service, or personal study. When I had doubts and asked for help I was told to study the Watchower more deeply, do more field service.

I suggest you follow through and get re instated if that is what you want. But you have seen how the WTB&S is lying and covering up. Do you really want to part of that?

I sense you are in a bit of turmoil. Tell us everything, you will get good advice on this forum.
