Sarah,
I am so sorry that you had to go through that terrible ordeal. My last meeting with the elders was very emotional also, so I knkow that feeling.
My husband is the one in our family that has relatives in the org.
He printed the info that peterstride is talking about (not severing ties) and sent it to his family. 3 out of four of them still talk to him, just alittle less than before, but he still has communication with them at least.
I send you and your husband hugs and support. BTW, life gets better as you distance yourself from the org. It may take time but it gets better (in my case, better than I ever dreamed).
Much love to you,l

Hi outandfree,
I agree. These type of tactics are disgusting. I also see that as a parent, I need to be more conscientious about what my child participates in, especially on the matter of religion.
The good part about all of this is that it has given us a springboard to discuss different religious belilefs.thanks for your reply again Exmormonrobertson.
I gotta go and eat some protein. My bloodsugar is falling and my typing shows.LOL.

thanks for yur reply ExmormanRobertson,
I will be taking your advice on not allowing my children to go to any type of religious oriented events without my watchful eye and complete understanding about what is to take place. another neighbor has invited my children(7and 3 years old) to vacation bible school. They won't be going.
I also do not agree with the use of scare tactics. Although she has not been made a member of the church, I do not agree with coercing a child to make a personal religious conviction without the parent's knkowledge or permisssion. Teaching a child about Jesus and that particular church's viewpoint and biblical understandings is one thing. It is another to scare her with hellfire and emotionally influence her into making religious statements such as she is a sinner and needs to have Jesus and now accepts Jesus into her heart, and then topping it off with a prayer stating how happy everyone is now that cabbie has the Lord.
Just my thoughts.
Take care and have a great week-end,

My little seven year old went to church with a neighbor kid last Wednesday evening. I thought the class would just be a few Bible stories and color something, and since my husband and I want our children to be exposed to all kinds of beliefs and religions, I let her go. Boy, was I wrong. It was more of a recruiting session. My lille gal came home all excited, hugged me, then exclaimed, "Mom, guess what? I got saved!" She said it with all the enthusiasm of a daughter telling her parents that she was getting married. It was such a shock that all I could say was, "That's wonderful honey". then I immediately started laughing. I felt so bad since she was obviously excited about the whole matter. I then apologized to her and her friend who told me, "Everyone in class is so happy for Cabrielle".
The techer also promised to give Cabbie a bible if she came back on Sunday, and gave her some Bible scriptures to memorize.
Needless to say, I talked to Cabbie about what had transpired at the class. Apparently, after a Bible story the class began discussing what it means to be saved and what happens to you if you are not saved, complete with hellfire and all.
I told her that according to that church's beliefs, your dad and I would probaly go tho hell. She didn't want to hear anything. I dropped the subject while she tried to get me to go through the ritual of how to get saved in a pamphlet she brought home.
I let it all go until her excitement had worn off. We been discussing the sinner and saved issues since then. What ticks me off is that the church did this with out my approval. MY children will no longer step foot in another church unless I am with them.
Cabbie's uneasiness with discussing the whole matter at first, reminded me how I would react to anything negative about the society.

Why do apostates ignore this???
by TheApostleAK inthat ray franz used johannes greber twice as a source in the aid to bible understanding book.. from the apostle ak
-

Mr. Apostle,
The tanslators of the NWT also use this Greber's translation in which he does not hide the facts that he used his wife's channeling abilities to aid in his own translation. I was not aware that Ray Franz used it in the Aid book. But it wouldn't surprise me. In Crises of Conscience, Ray admits that his own work was not as the facts show. He explained that the date for the destruction of Babylon date of 607 BCE did not correlate to the facts of the experts. He said he spent most of the article on this subject on trying to disprove the experts findings.
There is a link somewhere that also suplies watchtower article that shows that the translators were aware of Greber's use of spiritism in connection with his bible.
I am sure others on this board would know the web address if you are interested.

What about the poisitve things learned?
by aud8 inwhat about the biblical truths explined by the witnesses?
yes there are many things wrong with the organisation, but they did get a lot right - trinity, hell etc etc is anyone grateful for some of the teachings they received whilst being a witness?.

HI aud8,
Welcome to the board. I just finished reading your post about dissassociating yourself. Your feelings of guilt are something I can totally relate to. I lost my virginity on graduation night. I felt so guilty that I ran away from home with a friend. We were on our way to Los Angeles. I reasoned that I was already a horrible person that becoming a hooker wouldn't make much difference ( oh my, the reasoning of a teen-ager). thank God my friend came to her senses and talked me out of continuing our trip after a couple hundred miles).
As far as the positive I learned from the organization. I think Billy goat said a mouthful for me. The "bible truths" I thought were true no longer are viewed that way to me anymore. I have found very convincing arguments that contradict what I was taught by Jehovah's Witnesses. I am not saying these new thoughts are the truth. I just came toj the realization that the only way to know the "real truth" is to talk to God directly. For example, did Jesus die on a cross or a stake? I have read both sides of the issue and both have all this historical evidence and physiological claims to what is possibe, all backed up by experts. Now if this is really important to God to know the truth on the matter, how does someone like myself who is busy with children, college, and everyday living supposed to research this subject to the point knowing for sure. I do not have the time to pour over archealogical records and the such. Does that mean God expects me to take someone else's word for it? I already did that, and that did not work out so well. So I have come to the conclusion that I will know the truth about this matter if or when I ask Jesus himself.
I would sugest to you, like so many others have said, to research all those teachings we all held as truth, and find out if what you believe to be truth is as solid as you have been taught.
The only truth I have come to know is this. Love always works.
Take care aud 8 and keep us posted about how you are doing. We all understand the place you are at right now.
By the way, my youngest child who turns three today is named Ireland.
My family is Irish and I hope to visit that Emerald isle soon.
Much love, Angeleah -

Tattoogirl,
the meeting you must have went to was the theocrtic ministry school. the role playing you mention was probably the sisters talk. Has your study conductor mentioned why the sisters have this type of platform rather than speaking directly to the congregation like the majority of other talks are given (only men)? It is because women are not allowed to directly teach any man (or at least baptised guys). Women are to be in subjection to all males. this even includes older women. I remeber one field service meeting which had only sisters attending except a 12 year old brother who had just recently been baptised. The sisters did not want to put a scarf on their heads to lead the service meeting ( this is supposed to show that the woman who is taking the lead is aware of her place as a woman in the presence of a baptised male) so the 13 year old led the group of women. How empowering is that. While I was a witness, I felt like a subhuman because I had to be in subjection to every male due to the simple fact of my gender.
I hope you keep coming here and keep your mind open.
take care and enjoy yur freedom,

Amazing,
Very interesting. The Cortez, Colorado one is very strange. My father lives ten miles from this town. It is a dinky town (but it does have a Wal-Mart Super Store! LOL) in the middle of no where. Why would this corporation reside in Cortez and not in Denver? Very interesting. Next time I am at my Dad's, I will try the address -

3 meetings per week NOT FIVE!!!
by sawthelight inam i the only person ever to fall under the influence of the borg who can count?.
no offence all but jws meet three times per week.not five!
i consider the familiar statement about 5 meetings per week to be a good indication of just how indoctrinated a person is.
-
DrunkWithLiberty
Hello Saw the light,
I think it deals with each person's perspective. I remember when they started using that phrase "five meetings per week". I too thought the society had miscounted because, at the time, I wouldn't have (had?) missed the meetings unless I was in the hospital with some dreaded disease. Later, after I had children, I counted five meetings because I left in the middle (or at least wanted to) more often.
I understand what you are saying about the R&F being conditioned to parrot any and all terms the society spouts, even when the terms don't make sense.
I also find it interesting that in the Watchtowere study article in '99, July or August, the article said that if a person was missing meetings they were apostacizing (sp? and is that a word?). This was my husband's last meeting. He told our friend sitting next to him that the society can't make that assumption. She said that it must be refferring to the Greek definition of the word. What a crock. He left in a very angry mood and never went back. Yeah!
Take care and enjoy your day,
