More Misc Ramblings About Gilead
by AllTimeJeff inhonestly, i can't remember if i told some of this already, so if i repeat myself, please allow me this.
i am practicing for old age..... it is now 6 years since i got the "long form" application for gilead, with over 120 questions to answer.
5 years since i got my notice that we were selected to attend the 119th class of gilead from april-september 2005.. prior to this, i really wanted to be a co. i won't belabor the point about my ex jw wife wanting to go overseas, but suffice to say, her goal won out over my goal.

even so-called secular sources have called attention to the general progression from foot-in-the-door arguers of the 50's to the pet-the-pooch, broad smiling, "not-here-to-change-your- religion" marketers of the 70's, 80's.
door to door skills have dumbed down a bit since then, but that's another story.. i cut my field service teeth on the american standard version, the 6-8 minute sermon, the 10-15 minute back call sermon and the anti-trinity, anty-hellfire, anti-immortal soul scripture lists.

I'm sure there are similarities with todays JWs in the door to door preaching work.
There are always going to be ones that can talk to people concisely with bible knowledge intact, but
most JWS that are out in service are really just trying to put in their hours to shrug off some
inner guilt thats been impressed on to them.
Here's an example, my father has been a JW for 50 or more years of his life and not once
has had a personal bible study with anyone, yet he probably goes out in service on average of
about 4 or 5 times every month.

I think the reason Conan was hired to replace Leno was to draw a greater majority of younger viewers,
unfortunately the formula didn't work.
Leno seemed to pull in a older audience like baby boomers, where Conan drew more the younger 20ish crowd.
Maybe its just my age but I still liked Leno over all of the other late night talk show hosts.

On the other hand, maybe you believe that people should not be held responsible for their decisions and that other people should pay for your mistakes. People who subscribe to that philosophy often find their adult children still living at home long after the kids have turned 50. Such a philosophy rewards FAILURE at every level.
Like when a individual has found to have cancer in between employment and the person has a hard time finding a health insurer to
cover the new and impending health costs.
