God parent dilema.
by BrentR insince my entire family are jw's and my wife's family are all chain smoking, heavy drinking white trash we had to go outside our families to find a god parent for our daughter.
right after our daughter was born we asked some very good friends of ours if they would want to be and they agreed.
just a few weeks ago we found they have become deeply involved in a fundamentalist christian church.

I'll take her Brent!! I know what you're going through. It breaks my heart to think Megan would be with just Tom's side of the family, and because my family lives all over the place...I doubt she would really know anyone who really knows me. I would choose my sister, but, she has 3 kids and her husband doesn't work, and she lets my JW mom take the kids to meetings. My g-parents are too old, and my other siblings are too young. My husbands parents are real nice, but, they won't raise her like we would.....they are our only option though.
I guess I just have to make sure we don't die!!

It depends on what you mean by God-parent. For Megan, we have selected people who we feel will always be there to take an interest in her and have a special relationship with her. We chose my husbands best friend who is like a father to him, and my aunt, who sort-of replaces my JW mother. But, if we were to die, we would want his parents to take Megan...and the God-parents to still have an active part in her life.
If you are trying to figure out who would be the babies guardian in the case of you two (God-forbid) dying...that is a whole other matter, and one you would have to legally choose and have in writing, otherwise it would likely be a grandparent.

I got a call from an elder, he wants to come visit tomorrow.........
by fifi40 inso what to do?????.
he was a family friend for years.....i saw him in the supermarket a few months back and he stopped and chatted to me for a while.....he rang me today to see if he can call in the morning for a cuppa......he says he isnt coming to preach...... he is one of those likeable people..........but has had a heart attack shortly after i saw him in the supermarket......he says he is okay now.. so i cant really see the point...........he is older; in his 70's.......and i think whatever we talk about i dont want to be responsible for putting his health at risk by opposing his beliefs.. am i missing an opportunity or should i leave well alone?.

I was out with my new husband and a dating couple.(We were all at the ripe ol age of 19-20) Me and the dating brother got out and went to a door with several dogs. They started chasing us and we were running back to the car.....the brother climbed in the front passenger seat and my husband who was driving started backing out!! (With me not in the car!!! So nice to have a husband who loves you that much, ehe) I had to pile on top of the other brother!! The sister acted strange after that, like I WANTED to jump on her man!! Man, I miss those days....NOT!

why do so many "non witness " jws not bother to find out the "truth"
by sosad inmy siblings who have left (3/7 last count) have no desire to talk about or hear about much less read about what the deal is witht the org our parents decided would bring them everlasting life.
it is head shaking to me - and i try not to bring it up at all- but when they ask, or it comes up and they are all freaked out about me being interested in it all i just shake my head.
even friends i grew up with in the org have no desire to know - they are just not interested.

I get totally miffed by this too. I guess for me, I think it would be great for one of my siblings to look into all of it so we can talk about it. hey have no desire to investigate. One believes it still...but, just doesn't want to restrict her lifestyle (at 21) One never really believed it and thinks all religions are bad, and JW's are no worse (he is 24) And one doesn't know what to think, and doesn't have the time to research...likely wouldn't know what to even begin with because she was never really indoctrinated to begin with, and she allows her kids to go to the Hall with our mom.(She is 29) I am the only one DA'd...none of the others were baptised....so they find it easier to just leave it alone.

Moving on... advice needed
by bluesbreaker59 inso this week, i broke up with my "on again off again" girlfriend of 8 months.
i came to realize that even though i cared about her immensely, i didn't see us working out long term.
that thought hit me a couple weeks ago, so i didn't think i should waste anymore of her time or mine.

I think what you did was a self-destructive way of "proveing" to yourself that it was over. It's not the healthiest way of doing things, but, as humans...we sometimes don't always do things the best way. You need to forgive yourself and not keep on the path of being self-destuctive. (Guilt will keep you on that bad path, so I reiterate...FORGIVE yourself!!) If you really think you and the friend have a chance, be happy you have the chance to see if it will work....and don't let the way it started have ant effect on anything..you deserve happiness and a clean slate.
Enjoy your new relationship and don't let guilt lead you! It's ok to be human!!

Dog Owners -- Help!
by Inkie inwe have a four and a half month old chihuahua--the cutest little male dog.
in the short while that we have had him, my wife and i have fallen very much in love with him.
i haven't had a dog since i was a young lad of about 9 or 10 (i'm way older now) so i've long since forgotten how male dogs behave.

Because it is a sign of dominance, you need to show him that the HUMANS are the boss. A few simple ways are to make him wait to go through the door untill the humans have gone through. Also, you eat your food, then feed him. And the biggest mistake people make is letting the dog sleep with you....so make him sleep in a kennel or a dog bed if you can. You may have to put him on a leash to train him on these points...but, you should see a change very quickly. Good luck!
(Also, fix him if you haven't already)
