"My Child is Dead"
by Lee Elder inthis morning we published a very moving story written by a jehovah's witness whose 15-year-old son died supporting the watchtower's society blood policy.
to the best of my knowledge, this is the first time a jw parent has gathered up the courage to face down this monstrous policy after losing their child.
this is a very special person indeed and when we finally gather enough of these folks together and set them in front of the right attorney, the wts will be in for some serious litigation.. at present mary is in the midst of divorce from her jw husband and nailing down a custody agreement, so the identity of her and her son must remain anonymous.

The difference between life and death is going to be the moral value system of teh surgeons.
Up until now, for quite a few years, doctors/hospitals just went the religious freedom route and didn't involuntarily transfuse.
But we are learning now that religious freedom has to be balanced with other issues, human beings are not like automobiles, the whole patiint must be treated. Patients ALSO need to to be informed of all their options, and that rarely is the case with Jehovah's Witnesses.
I really doubt that Jehovah's Witnesses will refuse blood for their children if they were aware of the ENTIRETY of Watchtower's history on blood. This directly is the fault of the surgeons. THEY are the ones who ultimately need to be eductaed, and to sit down with their patients and talk to them and talk WITH them about these things, it takes less time to do this than to prepare a deaad body for the coroner's office.
For starters, medical education centers (nursing schools, medical schools) should be targeted in a mailing/fax/emailing campaign. Jehovah's witnesses got one whole paragraph in my nursing books, this is horrendous and needs to be corrected, one paragraph is enough to get them all killed in a hospital.
My only gripe about some otherwise very fine surgeons: IT is THEIR responsibility to ascertain if their patients are giving INFORMED consent. That means being informed of Watchtower's blood history, the surgeon is being lax in his responsibilities if he does not do this. He/she should not be pawning this off on secretaries or nurses; it is THEIR responsibility they are the ones wielding the knife.
We also need to back up surgeons when they DO ascertain their patient is not informed and they DO save a life. Right now I understand there is a surgeon on trial for saving a JW, all it would take is a few letters from a few people I think, and also letters to his medical establishment. People decrying this surgeon's decision are often not educated on the subject as they think they are. Once upon a time I know I certainly wasn't.
This grass-roots public education campaign is working, it is showing good fruitage and Lawrence Hughes is absolute living proof of this.
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK. KEEP THOSE CARDS AND LETTERS COMING.

1981 Ph.D Thesis on JWs
by JAVA ini just got my hands on william zellner's 1981 thesis, of another world, the jehovah's witnesses.
the 124-page work was in partial fulfillment of the requirements for a ph.d, through the sociology department at south dakota state university.
zellner's work looks at how the witnesses recruit new members and retains the converts the last part of his abstract says:it is argued that the social characteristics of a group are more important in the conversion process than in the group's message.. .

Why WTS Wants A Young Girl To Die
by metatron inhere we have a paradox - a mystery on which a life hangs.. the society dumped their new blood cards.
they write ambiguous replies to "questions from.
readers" about what blood products can or can't be taken.

Flip: if you are accusing Scully of something, I can assure you she is a very respected poster here on the board (you've been around long enough to know that, too)
Perhaps you have a point of some sort, your post is ambiguous on several points:
<Scully, the above statement you posted is too despicably bizarre to be true. >
of course it's bizarre, that's why Jehovah's witnesses are called a cult!!! Duh!!!!!! But perhaps you are referring in some way to Scully...?
< I suggest you reserve future comment in this regard until relevant proof trumps hearsay, >
WHY? The father believes it, Scully believes it, I believe it...
<otherwise you end up looking like an embarrassment thats worse than serving no useful purpose.>
I assure you that would never be the case with Scully. I went through your posting history, though,,,the jury might still be out on YOU.
See..it works both ways.

Trying again for more door to door reasons
by Bang ini posted a question before regarding the way jws go door to door.
[luke 10:7.23] and remain in the same house, eating and drinking what they provide, for the laborer deserves his wages; do not go from house to house.
if the apostles didn't do it and jesus said not to, why do the jws do it en masse?

It isn't just about whether there is 'scriptural support' for door-to-door evangelizing, Watchtower is being disengenuous when it filters the issue down to just this, because this is not the whole issue with Watchtower.
Watchtower says "go door-to-door or God will kill you, and that baby you are holding."
THAT is the issue which sets Jehovah's Witnesses apart from other religions. I do not believe any other religion teaches this anymore if any other did. I think the door-to-door work is terrific and there would be much better reception if Witnesses weren't such wackos (blood, shunning, rape resistance, oral/anal sex yadada).
Now, the question is, do JW's really believe that if they stop going door-to-door God will kill them?

They are hardly ever accurate, as we are seeing thanks to Dr. Rodney Stark.
1) Watchtower lies through their teeth calling it Theocratic War Strategy
2) The value of contributions from former members of the group is TOTALLY underated at best and completely derided and ridiculed at worst.
3) These researchers do not spend anywhere near enough time looking over the group's written literature, not even the public stuff let alone the private stuff. Dr. Rodney Stark is totally busted on this, and I am not through with HIM yet either.
4) These researchers do not spend enough time with the group and its members ina way that could be expected to elicit honest responses. what I mean is, they go in and say, hey I'm studying you and will be reporting on you and then they expect these people to behave normally? One of the biggest problems in social research is studying the subjects in a way that doesn't contribute to change in the subject.
I stopped reading some of these studies becasue they are so obviously flawed. What would really be beneficial is the study or DOING A STUDY on jehovah's Witness. The very fact that these 'reserachers' could allegeldy spend 6 or more months with a group and not SEE the hate, misogeny, mind control, apocalyptics, child sacrificing just goes to reveal the REAL 'value' of these studies.
The only real way is to study with the JW's for six months as a prospective convert, go all the way through with baptism, keep a diary/log of what is said, and any feelings and emotions the researcher experiences (there will be plenty) . Jerome's posts represent a very good way to research Jehovah's Witnesses, he should give classes on this. (((Jerome))))
We need higher standards for these studies. And for the 'researchers'.
