Well, that explains the mysterious letter I got from from bank letting me know that my debit card numbers had been compromised and that I should consider getting a new card. I did switch, but it was a PITA.

Let Kids see Dub Grandparents or?
by brunnhilde inmy mom and dad love my son, but i also know because of the depth of their brainwashing, they won't be respectful of my parenting (as i've asked them) and will try to "plant seeds" with him.
he's only 7, loves his grandma and papa very much and is easily confused and distressed when he gets conflicting info.
since we left the dubs, we've had a couple different run-ins with my parents trying subtle and not so subtle means to get at my son, or more accurately, get at me.

I'm going through this myself. My in-laws are JWs and I've started going along to the visits. It is very uncomfortable for me, but I need to be aware of what they are saying around the kids so that I can talk to them later about what they heard. They were cold but nice to me this past weekend and they didn't bring religion up around the girls. I want them to have a relationship w/them but I also don't want them using techniques to draw a wedge between us.
Definitely stay with the kids when you get together. Good luck!

What do you do with your time???
by nonamegiven inwell, now that you are out of the organization, what do you do with the time you gained?
let's see how much time we gained.. assuming you were a publisher you spend at least 2 hours in service 3 saturdays a month plus the service meeting and drive time to and from the kh, let's call that 10 hours a month.. 5 meetings a week plus "fellowshipping" before, after and drive time, let's call that another 40 hours a month.. then there was meeting prep.
another 8 hours a month.

Your opinion on my really important question, please.
by jambon1 indoes a jw upbringing simply confuse a child or is it really damaging?.
i have no doubt that a jw child is, at least, confused with life.
in my own case my wife brings up my 2 children (aged 5 & 2) as jw`s.

Jumping in to share my experience of being an unbelieving mate w/two young children (5 and 6). I have been out two years and my husband and I have come to an agreement that I can raise them celebrating birthdays and holidays and husband can bring them to the meetings and assemblies. No field service for the girls, he has agreed to this. I am very uncomfortable w/the girls being exposed to dangerous and unpredictable individuals at the doors and my therapist agrees w/this and has already said he would testify in court should the need arise. My husband is being very flexible and reasonable. He wants our marriage and dual-childrearing to succeed as much as I do.
I am very good about always de-programming the girls from the poison. I talk to them all the time about what they are learning and help reason w/them and help them to go w/their guts. Asking them their feelings on what they are learning and then affirming their feelings is the best approach in my opinion. I want to trust that they have great intuition and my goal is to affirm that intuition and encourage them to trust it. They now are very comfortable w/coming to me with something that doesn't sit right with their senses. They having a sounding board in me and usually after the say what isn't sitting well with them they will draw the conclusion that what they learned is messed up.
Be proactive w/your part in child-raising. Whatever you do, don't sit back and watch. Your children need to have an "out" in you. They need to know that you will have their back. Get them talking and insist that they participate w/birthdays, holidays, sports, and "worldly" friends. Give them a normal life, in other words.
Good luck!

Wow, donations set up electronically. Isn't it dangerous to use the web? Putting it money through it? Is that wise?? (Said tongue in cheek.) According to my parents and sister it is a dangerous place not to be trusted. All those predators out there ready to attack...

The other day my husband was talking about my 6 yr old daughter and how she won't sit like a "lady" at the meeting. I informed my husband that wearing a dress is a male imposed idea and that maybe she should be allowed to wear pants. He just rolled his eyes. I was wondering why it is that JWs impose their idea of a female having to wear a dress or skirt. Why? What is wrong w/pants? Please don't say that pants are more sexual because that isn't true at all.
When my daughter goes to church w/me, I let her decide what she will wear and most of time she wears jeans. My other daughter, on the other hand, loves to dress up. I'm okay w/that, as long as it is her choice and not a group of men pushing their authority on my little girl. Maybe it is the years of being forced to wear dresses even when it was 20 below zero and you had to spend the day in the ministry, but I have a hard time even putting on a dress. Wearing a dress is similar to being raped to me. It is being forced to wear something based solely on your sex, even when it hurts you.
Being told that you can't wear a tee-shirt, jeans, or shorts is trying to keep the sheep in their place. Heaven forbid they actually start to feel normal. Keep the women in their dresses and the men in their dress pants so that they don't start to feel "off-duty." Barf. Barf.

Not an Oprah fan?
by looking_glass injoin the club.
first of all i am in chicago, so we get tons of stories about the woman.
is she any different from any other wealthy powerful person, probably not, but she certainly is not the golden child she presents herself.. 1) she can be demanding (not any different from many wealthy rich people) and if you do not ask how high when she says jump, you are fired.. 2) she is known to agree to something, disappear for a while and then people get a form letter from "her people" saying that oprah cannot participate in ___[fill in appropriate word here]_____.

Well I know if there was someone examining my every move w/a microscope I wouldn't be very liked even if I did amazing things. Hey, you're free to criticize her, but at least she is trying to do what is right w/her money. That's a lot better than 99% of the wealthly individuals in this world.

So many strong emotions in me as I read this. Please know that my heart is aching for what you went through. Have you ever read the book, "A Child Called It?" I highly recommend it because the author become a survivor...a strong soul who endured excrutiating pain and humiliation and yet found the strength within himself to become a leader. You are so strong for surviving what you did and emerging into an intelligent individual. My thoughts are for your continued growth and healing...

I agree, and being a photographer, I've tried out many. The Canon Pixmas are the way to go for most consumers.
