i'm studying with a jehovah's witness and it makes quite a bit of sense but i've been reading many topics on here and it seems that i can find every christian denomination and every religion except jehovahs witnesses.
do any jw's actually browse here?
maybe i'm just getting unlucky and picking the wrong topics where everyones discussing about how they used to be jw's.

as some of you may know, i was born and raised as a jw.
i was actually a 3rd generation jw.
I hated it when the brothers would use the stage as their personal platform for belittleing those in the congregation they didn't agree with . So many petty things that should have been handled in private were laundered in public.
I agree with that statement Troubled Mind. That P.O. at my congregation had a bad habit of belittling others within the congregation, even other elders there were targeted by him.
I remembered that one of the other elders at the congregation had a wedding reception for his daughter on a Sat. evening. It was actually a nice wedding and everyone had a good time at the reception. Well that Sunday after the Watchtower Study, the P.O. said, "Did everyone enjoy that music at the wedding reception yesterday? Seems to me that alot of you did. I saw sisters clapping their hands to "the beat" and some brothers were doing "worldy" type dancing. Now friends, this is NOT the type of music that we as Christians should be listening too!"
Guess the P.O. would have preferred that the congregation members dance to the "Kingdom Melodies" tunes? I think nvrgnbk made a good point earlier...that P.O. was a real a$$hole!!!

These were the qualifications back when you were baptized:
*** km 3/98 p. 4 par. 12 Will We Do It Again?—Another Call for Auxiliary Pioneers ***To qualify for auxiliary pioneering, one must be baptized, be of good moral standing, and be in a position to devote 60 hours to the ministry during the month.
*** km 2/97 p. 4 par. 9 Wanted—100,000 Auxiliary Pioneers ***A sister who was baptized at the age of 70 immediately began auxiliary pioneering on a continuous basis.

Over the years, I had also known of several other witnesses that began auxiliary pioneering soon after they were baptized. This brings me to another point. Could it be that the elders at that congregation and especially the P.O. didn't understand the difference between auxiliary pioneer and regular pioneer! In the case of a regular pioneer, yes, I would have had to wait for 6 months, after being baptized to qualify. But the only qualifications that I ever heard for an auxiliary pioneer was that the individual had to be baptized. And if the elders didn't feel that I was qualified or of good moral standing, then why did they let me pass the baptism test???
It looks like the P.O. didn't understand the WTS rules. Guess he was the one that wasn't qualified...to be an elder!!!

That's right Shawn! I actually started thinking for myself, something I had never learned as a JW!!!
for me it was a combination of things over a long period of time.
being raised as a witness, you do things by rote.
but when you see sooooooooo many watchtower inconsistencies, mistreatment of the "brothers", elder abuse, and simple lack of love, it begins to make you start seriously thinking.

For me it began by a simple "lack of love" and abundant arrogance by the elders!!!

Actually if this was the beginning of the end for you, as far as being a JW, they actually did you a favor - in the long run.
Yup, that's very true Gopher! And that's exactly how I feel now.
The irony of this whole event was that I still managed to work 61 hrs. in Field Service during that month of August! Which was ONE hour more than would have been required had I actually been given the lousy pioneer slip! Like many teenagers, I was stubborn and wanted to prove to everyone that I could do it if given the chance.
Looking back now, I could have used that time so much more wisely!!!
