Good one Outlaw!
The only reason I go to Hooters is because they have good food.
Not me. I go to admire the scenery. I didn't even know they served food at Hooters???

i was kind of skeptical about registering or even posting anything on this site but after a long struggle of going back and forth and after talking to a friend telling me that it would be good for me i decide to do it.
i grew up in a jehovah witness house hold.
it all was great a had a wonderful childhood but everything went down hill when i started to have my own opinion on things.
Congrats on your first post Dianna!!! Glad you found your way here. It does take time to make the adjustment after you leave The Org. But once you do you'll discover the wonders of freedom! I wish you the best of luck!!!
Hope to read more of your posts in the future!!!

hard to believe, but i've been on jwd for a whole year!!!
my, how time flies!!!.
for those of you who are not too familiar with me or "my story" i'll just give you a few details.. i was born and raised as a jw.
I studied at university as did many other young dubs at that time and no one objected to this in any way.
Glad to hear that you were able to go without opposition Greendawn! I'm not sure if the WTS has changed its policy recently, but back then they put me through hell !
Of course going to college and my leaving were not "disfellowshipping" offenses. But as far as my JW family was concerned, I may of well have been disfellowshiped. Once I disassociated myself, my family and the few JW friends that I had wanted no part of me. Not being able to talk with my brothers, sister and mother was what sent me over the edge. The ironic part of it all is that years later, with the exception of my devout JW mother, all of my family left The Org. too. Even my brother who had been an elder!
The dreaded "shunning" policy of the WTS has torn many families apart. So much for the so called love among God's only "true" organization, huh??

I live the anti-college experience as a young JW. I didn't go to college until my mid 40's.
Glad to hear that you finally went to college JK! Way to go! As they say, it's NEVER too late!!!

i've been inspired by ip sec here starting a thread on all time favorite led zeppelin songs.
so i will give credit where credit is due, thanks, ip sec !!
so what was your favorite beatles song of all time ?
Three of my favorite "bug" songs. In no particular order:
"All You Need is Love"
"Let It Be"
"Ob-la-di Ob-la-da"
when i had a thread a few months ago on your favorite all time groups.
i believe pink floyd finished very high in the ratings.
so, considering there are many pink floyd fans out there, including myself, what is your all time favorite pink floyd song ?
My favorite Floyd song has to be "Learning to Fly" from their album A Momentary Lapse of Reason. Awesome tune!
what were your excuses for not going to the meetings?.
ours were the usual ones, boredom, illness or weather, yepp even the tiny snow flurries were a good excuse to stay home.
linda.
Yeah.....most of them were with no windows for proper ventilation.
That's because they didnt want us to jump out of them Linda...Or to see how much fun the "worldly" people were having!!
My excuse was usually work related. I worked shift work all the time, including nights. Feel asleep at the public meeting more than once, after being up all night. I finally decided it was better to skip the boring meeting, rather than sleep through it!

I was born and raised as a JW. I became a publisher at age 10 and at the same time joined the Theocratic Ministry School, giving talks from the stage. At 17, I got baptized. But soon after high school, I started attending college and the elders kept pressuring me to quit. One elder said, "What do you need worldly college for? Armageddon is almost here!" (That was back in the early 1980's!!) Most of the "friends" at my congregation became icy cold toward me too. Apparently word leaked out that the elders had had a talk with me about quitting college, but I was being defiant. So in my early 20s, I made a choice and left the JW's for good. This lead to shunning by my family, which caused me to become suicidal at one point. If it wasn't for the love of my "worldly" dad, I may not be alive today!
Finally, just over a year ago I thought about seeing a shrink...UGH!!! So many unresolved JW issues that I was still trying to deal with since leaving The Org. Then I realized that it would probably take 5 or 6 sessions with a shrink, just to try and explain what being raised as a JW is all about...it would be much better if I could seek out other former JWs, they would understand and be able to relate easier.
Then I found out about these types of online forums and posted on a couple. Through one of these, I met buttlight and she told me about JWD. Posting on here, starting friendships with other x-JWs and hearing about their experiences over this last year has really helped me. And I have to say that it's been lots of fun too!
Thanks to everyone on here for making this site worthwhile and enjoyable!!!
I'm looking forward to many more years of hanging out on here with you wonderful apostates!!!
