I hear the Phoenix Zoo is all decorated. I will check it out. ... In Georgia, Callaway Gardens near Columbus has a beautiful drive thru display. It is several miles long. You need reservations and can either drive yourself or ride in an open air trolley. It is really worth the effort if you are in the area. ... In Houston there is an old neighborhood just North of downtown (I forgot the name) that is really fun. It is full of the old original houses that are all decorated. Some homeowners have hot cider and cocoa for the visitors. Some have some entertainment on their porches (singers). Visitors park and walk up and down the streets. Very warming experience.

A little update.......
by megsmomma ini had posted an e-mail with my step-dad and i going back and forth over me ranting about the jw's and him saying i just want to blame everyone for my life.. my husband met with him sunday for lunch...to basically tell him why i was critical of the society and that i am a happy person...i just do have some issues because of the religion i was raised in.. it is important to note that he has never been baptised(and has been "in" it for 20 yrs), but thinks they are the true religion.. so, he was very humble with my hubby and said he would like to talk things out with me.
he admitted he was not right in the way he treated me growing up, and he should not have said the things he did in the e-mail.. so, we met today and i explained how the jw's treating me so nice as a kid, and showing me approval when i conformed ment a-lot to me...and i didn't know how to look at things critically...i just totally believed.
we went on to talk about him praying and how i just recently felt like i could pray since i was taught jehovah only listens to baptised jw's prayes.

That is intense. I wonder what your Dad will think when he sees he "is not in position to offer prayers acceptable to God." That should make him sit back and take notice. I hope this will open up for more dialog for you guys.

Revelation Climax, page 52, Kindly Respond
by compound complex indear readers of revelation,.
i have been reminded that a simple question is more effective than an elaborate presentation.
i have become very careful about what i say and how much i say to most people.

Looks to me like more than that one hand is weird. Definitely not the best artists. --- Off topic - I see all these guys wearing beards. Maybe next time someone gets reprimanded for having a beard they can pull out this example of Christ's followers. : )

"Customer Service" Pet Peeves
by XJW4EVR ini hate when people use the "i'm new here" excuse, and then do absolutely nothing to try and find out what you are inquiring about or at least transfer you to someone that can help.. what are some of your "customer service" pet peeves?.
-
MeneMene
I have found the best way to get service at Home Depot or Lowe's is to take my beautiful daughter in with me. When I go alone I am ignored. When she goes with me we have service guys following us around the store tripping over each other trying to help her!!!

Funny about this board!
by 5thGeneration ini think it's hilarious that when you post facts there is still always someone arguing it.. makes you want to stop bothering if people don't want to learn.. but then again my family has only been in the truth for 100 years so what would i know?.

"Please don't lecture me on manners when you go back and read people's post from the past when they may have been hurt, upset, depressed, confused, drunk, whathaveyou and then bring them up again." ... I am not a debater and not nearly as smart as the rest of you guys but, 5th, your statement just hit me as something the WTS could say about their past literature. They don't want us looking closely at their past stuff either.

How Often Do You Pray?
by Anitar ini know this might sound silly, but one of the most annoying things i find about my mom being a jw is how often she prays.
normally, i would never criticize someone for praying to god, but she prays in such a way that makes me angry for some reason.
let me explain:.

I was born of two pioneers. I have never in my life felt comfortable praying or really felt the need. I tried when I was young. It just seemed so silly. I always felt there must be something wrong with me. ... There have been many times during my life after the WTS that I have felt someone/thing was looking out for me. When good things keep happening, I have thanked "whomever" is out there. I do not address the prayer to a specific entity -- like to Jehovah or to Jesus - it is just a quiet "thank you" to whoever it is. It is never a formal prayer as my father gives before each meal. I do not pray to ask for things.

Ex-JW Friends - Learning Who They Really Are
by Amazing inlearning to find friends as an ex-jw.
i wrote this essay because of what i have observed and experienced in the way of disappointment and reward in the relationships and freinds i have made online.
i can relate to how you some x-jws feel about leaving online discussion boards.

I believe I have just recently lost a long time friend/acquaintance. Have known her since 1968 and she kept up with me through the years. I don't consider her a JW because of all the things she has done that they are not supposed to do but apparently she does still consider herself one. She called last week and she started talking about getting a new Revelation book. I said something about them making all the changes to it. I had just been reading some of the stupid things WTS used to say and told her how the Golden Age warned women about getting their hair cut short -- that it was going to cause them to go bald. Also told her the article said the reason men were already going bald was because they kept their hair cut short and wore tight hats. ... Something else was mentioned and she said it was "New Light" and all of a sudden she had to get off the phone. ... I then sent her a couple emails - one was about WTS and pedeofiles and told her to go to Silentlambs website. ... I haven't received another word from her and she used to forward me all kinds of silly emails. ... I think it's VERY FUNNY - I'm thinking I'll wait a week or so and send her another email with more info. I probably scared her to death and now she thinks I'm demonized!!! ROLF

I must really still be a newbie (What does DUH Stand for?)
by inlove ini know this may seem to simply to most of you, but it is really bugging me.. .
ps my hubby, who is pushing me to become a jw says he will read stuff i find out about the governing body.
well i told him i could prove that the tw and other jw publications had been prophecing the specfic date for the end of the word.

I didn't see DUH on the netlingo site. When I used it in one comment I made I meant - "what a dummy I was" -

DOES MONEY BUY HAPPINESS?
by Mary ini think most of us were probably trained to believe that money can't buy happiness, but is that really true?
i know i'd be a hell of a lot happier with more money....what about you?
of course, there are the big examples we all know of---people who had lots of money, fame, but they weren't happy.

I think winning the lottery would bring me much happiness. I usually buy Power Ball lottery tickets (1 per draw). I figure I get a $1.00 worth of fun out of just thinking about who all I would write checks to for the max I could without having to pay gift taxes each year. . . . NO - NONE would go to WTS.
