I was baptised at 12. I wasn't forced - I just felt it was expected. I firmly do not believe there was a proper "dedication" prior to the baptism so I consider mine to be Null & Void. Since baptism is only the outward symbol of the private dedication, it is the dedication that is most important IMO. Back when I was 12 there were no prior study questions - you just showed up at the assembly with your bathing suit and answered a couple questions with the group at the baptism talk.

Baptism and At What Age?
by karnage ini have seen and noticed that most people who are raised as jw's get baptized at a young age.
ages like 14-19. how is it that someone can dedicate their life to jehovah at these ages, when maturity is still in development?
this seems to be something that jw's push and practice on a regular basis.

It does often pay to make a valid complaint against companies that have failed to provide proper service. I went to www.consumer.gov and looked in the Consumer Action Handbook to see if I could find you a corporate address for RCA but it was not listed. You can file a written complaint to your State Attorney General's office. Get a copy of the UPS documentation showing it was delivered to the Service Center and include that with your complaint. You can also order a free copy of the Consumer Action Handbook on that website. Click on the yellow book on the bottom section of the main page. It has lots of good consumer info about lots of topics. It's also online but I still like the feel of paper in my hands.

Also keep in mind that article was written in 1991 just after they joined the United Nations and were required to promote and support the UN. This very cleverly worded piece would satisfy the UN's requirement and at the same time be read by JWs as something totally different. (IMHO)

I was allowed very limited access to non-JW kids. No sports. The high school I went to 8 - 10th grades had an excellent music dept. I ended up in a string quartet so got to go with the teacher and quartet to other high schools and play in larger orchestras. Once we moved from that school I was in a rural area with nothing. I was not allowed to work on one school project because one kids father was a minister and we were to use a room in the church to put the project together. I was allowed to work on the Prom committee and decorate for the party was not allowed to go to it. - - - I was the first JW to graduate from that school in decades and the teachers were going out of their way to accomodate my stupid requirements. They ended up having us stand up for one thing and then while we were already standing they played the national anthem so I wouldn't be the only person to be sitting in front of everyone at the graduation. I remember appreciating their efforts to not embarrass me in front of hundreds of people. - - - I tried to make sure my kids had lots of friends, they were very active in 4-H, some sports and went to to their Proms.

Did you really avoid eating food with possible blood in it?
by JH inwhen i joined in the mid 80's, many jw's really read the label to make sure there were no blood by products in the food.. then a few years later, they didn't make a fuss about that anymore.. i guess that today, jw's eat just about anything..

I also remember my mother checking food labels to make sure she didn't buy anything with lecithin in it. That must have been in the late 50s or early 60s. That apparently was a big deal at that time. Someone or something told them not to eat lecithin.

Confessing to the elders...
by tan inhas anyone ever had to confess their sins to the elders...left out some of the details or "other gross" sins...but wondered if you were truly forgiven of your sins?
or was reproved and given back your priviledges but knew that you didn't tell everything.
how did you feel afterward?

Not I. Anything I may have done wrong was not any of their business. It will be handled by the "powers above" - - - and I do not mean the GB!!
