I definitely vote for not meeting with them.
When they sent word by my dad back about 1985 that they wanted to meet with me, I told him I was not meeting with them and nothing I did was any of their business. I had already been inactive for several years but a boyfriend had recently moved in with me. (Dad probably is the one that told them.)
Anyway nothing happened! The family took it upon themselves to shun me for a while until the boyfriend moved out but I never heard from the elders again.
You do not owe the elders anything. Nothing you do is any of their business.

Should I wait to be questioned by the elders? or take my leave in advance?
by Thinking of Leaving inhi everyone, i recently joined this forum as i'm close to being df.
i am suppose to meet with a judical committee soon but was thinking that i don't want to go through those personal questions that i'm sure the elders would ask.
does anyone know, is it better to just tell the elders before, say like on the phone, that i want to be df and not go through the committee?

Here's a site that has the outline: www.docbob.org/modules.php?name=Content&pa=showpage&pid=20 There was another on JWD not too long ago but can't find it right now. The one above looks like it is the same.

The history of the Governing Body
by greendawn inlet's piece together the history of the gb of the jws to better understand its nature.
i start by mentioning that russell started it all by investing a lot of his money to set up the wts therefore inevitably he must have seen it as his own property, if he put in the money he should also have control over it.
then other people became investors by buying shares.

I have just started reading The Four Presidents of the WTS, by Edmond Gruss. I was reading the section, Russell the Businessman, last night. Apparently his father was quite successful before CTR was born.
Gruss references the Russell v. Russell case (1907 on appeal) saying it brought out the many investments and business ventures in which CTR was involved in years after he sold his clothing stores. It says, "Not only was he involved in real estate, rental and oil property, but many other enterprises. Those mentioned in court testimony include: Brazilian Turpentine Company, Pittsburgh Asphaltum Company, Silica Brick Company, Pittsburgh Kaolin Company, Black's Run Coal Syndicate, Rock Run Fuel and Gas Company, U.S. Coal and Coke Company and the Tower Publishing Company."
CTR is quoted as making the statement, 'everything that goes into the Watch Tower is under my supervision.'
There was also a company called Solon Society or Solon Association and a firm called Logan, Land & Whitehouse. They were apparently used to buy all kinds of household goods, furniture, etc at wholesale rates. CTR first denied any knowledge of Solon in court testimony but under cross examination by Maria's attorney admitted his involvement.
Clayton J. Woodworth was one of the principals of Solon. There is some interesting info concerning CJW and demon possession at http://www.geocities.com/Heartland/2919/wood.html -

Bethel Romeos - throwing your daughters at them
by Uzzah init was raised in a comment quoted in the national post article today:.
on speaking engagements at kingdom halls throughout the country, fathers would sometimes even offer up their daughters in marriage to him because of the prestige of his position, he said.. have any of the gals here experienced this?
did your parents 'parade you' around visiting bethelites or try to set you up with them?

My niece just got engaged to a bethelite. She's in her early 20s. Her mother is just so thrilled she is beside herself.
She has filled out the application for Bethel. Guess she is planning to join him there. I was surprised they are still taking applications as I thought they were laying off a lot of people. -

Question for Former/Current Elders.....
by Lumptard ini recently received a phone call from an elder about an alegation that one of my ex-girlfriends brought up to the elders in her cong (the thing that she told the elders about was supposed to have happened 5 years ago when we were still together).
he told me what she had said about me and i said "o.k.
" in order to not confirm or deny that it was true.

If you confessed to him and later denied confessing where would they be?
Be careful with what you say on the phone calls, he may have another elder/witness listening in on the phone call in case you later recanted.
Someone here mentioned a week or so ago that they had a second person listening in on a phone call to him/her.
Edited to add: Confession you were reading my mind. -

Does anybody know if Prince is an active witness?
by oppgirl63 inmy roommate and i were watching the super bowl last night and i mentioned that prince the jw was doing the halftime show.
she insisted that if he was a jw, he was either inactive or dissassociated because he was doing something that wasn't appropriate for jw's (i didn't really see anything he did that was so bad).

I heard a few months ago that he has gotten more serious about the WTS lately and will not sing any of his old songs that have profane/obscene words.
I noticed his dancers were all completely clothed in the half time show. Of course that could be cause it was raining & cooler. -

Highland - if you get to Bethel, maybe you can visit the Assembly Hall in Queens that has the Winged Sun God on the front of it. There is a picture at this web site - www.theforbiddenknowledge.com/hardtruth/dirtywatchtowersecrets.htm
