Tetragram Gospels
by Earnest inin my research on the use of god's name in the new testament i came across reference to the tetragram gospels.
you can imagine my excitement that this obscure twelfth century manuscript of the gospels might contain the tetragrammaton.
alas, when i eventually got to look at the microfilm it turned out that it was only called the tetragram gospels because it only contained the four (tetra) gospels.. for your interest it was written by a scribe named joseph and its main interest is that the passage at luke 22:43-44 describing jesus' "bloody sweat" is marked with asterisks to indicate its spurious nature.

Is it possible to be declined credit for having credit that is too good?
by Elsewhere inthe other day i was making substantial purchase and wanted to take advantage of the advertised "12 months no interest" deal.
i have excellent credit, however my application was denied.
the girl at the checkout couldn't tell me why, only that it was denied.

I just looked at my Experian report from last year and it lists my ending balance every month on my Discover card and Visa card for about 2 years. The statement closes on a certain date and the statement is mailed out. My payment is always received before the due date but the balance on the account when the statement closes is what is reported.
TransUnion doesn't list the months individually but it does show the 'current' Balance and then the High Balance and Credit Limit. -

babygirl, that happened to my father last year. He was in Sears to buying something that was several hundred dollars and they asked if he wanted a credit card so he could get an extra discount.
He accepted & applied & was denied. He was still upset when he got home and I explained to him it wasn't because he had bad credit - it was because he had NO credit history.
He has always paid cash for everything. -

Jehovah's Rocking the Nations?
by 5thGeneration inhow long can the society keep insisting that the preaching work is so successful when there is virtually zero (alright 1.5%) growth?.
interestingly, the society has excluded the percent gain/loss column online.

Thanks 5thG - I was just on the WTS website looking for the 2006 statistics and couldn't find them.
The 2005 Report on their website did not have the percentages of change either. What was printed in the 2/1/06 WT did show the % Inc Over 2004.
I was comparing Thailand's numbers for 2005 and 2006 and would like to compare 2004 also. Do you happen to know if they keep previous years numbers listed on their website or only the latest year? -

Happy Birthday to you!!!
At least your mom remembered and acknowledged your birthday. That's not bad for a JW mom. -

I'm confused- Does it mean that I stumble someone if I drink Coffee?
by Verona ini was reading the post from truth seeker on the april 15 wt.
i went a little farther in the article and noticed the q& a indicating that some in the congregation may choose to abstain from cafeine.. this kind of reminds me of the hotdog incident, back in the 60's when we wouldn't be allowed to eat a hotdog because it offended some brothers and sisters with weaker consciences (they believed that hot dog weiners had blood in them).
so we became closet hotdog eaters for awhile.

Suppose Brooklyn has been reading all the JWD talk about the JWs spending so much of their time in coffee shops taking coffee breaks instead of actually going d2d?

Credit cards are wonderful if you know how to play the game and win. I pay the balance in full every month and have not paid any interest on a credit card in decades. I mainly use my Discover card and get cash back. Everytime my cash back balance gets up to $20 I have them apply it to my account as a credit.
Elsewhere, when you pulled your credit report did you also get your credit score? On the cards you do have open are your balances near your credit limit? If so, that will pull your score down a lot. The more of your available credit you have in use on revolving accounts, the lower your score.
Send that letter in and see what their explanation is. As someone else pointed out it is possible they just made a mistake and looked at someone else's credit.
Back when I first got my Discover card my credit limit was about $8000 and my first month's bill was about $850. The bank reported to the credit bureau that my credit limit was $850 - the same as my outstanding balance. So it looked like I was maxed out. That dropped my credit score like a rock. Once I got the error corrected the score went right back up where it was.
An individual bank/company could use their own records if you have done business with them before but they should not be able to tell from your credit report or score that you have not been paying any interest.
I read a quote similar to the following several years ago that really says it all:
People that understand interest, EARN interest.
People that do not understand interest, PAY interest. -

WTS still an NGO in US?
by ICBehindtheCurtain inhi all: i came across something very interesting, in looking at this pdf there is a list of ngo's that attended for some conference on anti-semitism and guess who is on there?
if you scroll down you will find that in belgium the wts (under their european christian jehovah's witness umbrella) but if you scroll down to the us section you will find that they show up as the watchtower bible and tract society of pennsylvania, so apparently as of 2005 when this conference was held, they were still an ngo, does anyone else know about this?.

OSCE = "The Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe consists of 55 nations, including the nations of Europe and Eurasia, and the United States and Canada."
I think this is a different organization than the U.N. (At least a brief search found no obvious link or perhaps I missed it.)
While they may no longer be an NGO to the UN, apparently they are still aligning themselves with other political (religious?) organizations as a non-government organization. -

Sounds like you have helped him a lot.
Does he know about freeminds.org & silentlambs.org? Barbara Anderson's story that is on freeminds is very good. Maybe that would be something to make his wife think. He could print it out and leave it where she could find it.
