Witness fear of demons why?

during my ten year sojourn through the watchtower, i was always amazed at the witnesses fear and fascination with demons.

occasionally at gatherings, they would exchange "demon" stories, which were just a jw way of telling ghost stories, and you would usually hear a few "uhhs" and "oh my's" as the story was told.

although i had heard folks of other denominations mention demons, it was never with the "shock and awe" the witnesses put into it.

A year or so ago I gave my sister a book by Lillian Braun. It was a mystery with the main character a cat with 'special' powers to solve murders. Very light interesting read. My sister left it in her car as she noticed on the dust cover about the cat with physic powers. She was afraid to take it into the house. A couple days later she was driving her very old car down the street and the radio came on full blast & scared her. It happened again a day or so later. By then she had figured out it was the book that was demonized so she threw it out the window while she was driving down the street.

Demons also made her computer crash. I sent her an email with a list of quotations from the old WT publications. Her computer crashed as she opened that email and for some reason she thought it was demonized. I don't think she realized the quotes were from WT stuff. (Personally I believe that's where her demons are coming from - all that WT stuff.)

five were imprisoned by the british as traitors and tortured before they died.. twelve had their homes ransacked and burned.. two lost their sons serving in the revolutionary army; another had two sons captured.. nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the revolutionary war.. they signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.. what kind of men were they?.

The Day you Knew.....Armaggeddon was Here!

i`m a dubkid,i was raised in a crazy cult,the jehovah`s witness`s........death and destruction were constant topics of the day.........................you heard it every day,then you went to meetings and heard more of the same thing..........................one of my first children`s books was "paradise lost to paradise regained"..mom wanted me to have a nice big book,with lots of pictures of death and destruction!...............................i feared armageddon everyday............when i was about 7 or 8,i remember walking home from school..and....we had a huge thunder storm!..sheets of rain!..lightning bolts lite up the sky!..and..the thunder was deafining!................i was frigg`n scared!..armageddon was here!

Funny, 9/11 didn't have the Armageddon effect on me. Perhaps I had been out long enough.

As a child during the Cuban missile crisis, I thought that was surely the end. As I recall, I believed hiding under a table would actually save me.

"Sprouting" ... Does anyone here do this?

i didn't want to hijack the "how to save money" thread, but just wondered if anyone else here does his/her own sprouting (making sprouts from beans or seeds).. if you buy sprouts in the supermarket, they can very expensive, expecially if you like to mix 2 or 3 types within a salad.

additionally, if you don't have easy access to an asian market, the long white bean sprouts can be expensive.

locally here in miami, we pay about $2 for just a 12 ounce package.. i started sprouting my own things several years ago, not so much to save money, but more to have a fresh supply of sprouts and not have to go to the store as often.

Thanks for the tips. I had put them in the large cabinet below the sink. Took them out & put them on the counter & with a cloth over them.

Shunned again

my son called me yesterday, first time in probably 6 weeks, because he lost his car keys, the car is in my name, so i had to get another set from the dealership.

anyways, it doesn't really matter what he called about, it was just in 6 weeks he only calls because he needs something, not a peep before that (very hurtful).

a brother drove him to my office and it was quittin time so i went outside with him and gave him the keys, i was hurt and didn't say much to him.

I agree completely with jgnat and Darren. You are being much too soft with him. But before you cancel the insurance make sure you get the vehicle out of your name.

My beans I started yesterday afternoon have already started sprouting. Should be able to taste them in a couple of days.

it was the same weekend that my mom and dad, to my surprise, agreed to meet with me.

i was in midland, michigan, about a month ago, only an hour or so from where they live.

in the airport on monday morning, in walked john, someone i remembered well from the jw congregation of my youth.

RubaDub - thanks for posting this thread.

I went and bought some beans/seeds today after checking the Internet for suggestions. I'm trying Mung beans first.

We have a natural food store here that had a few different kinds. They didn't have radish, broccoli or sunflower seeds - will have to try to find them somewhere else.
