New Here, My Personal Story
by johannahw ini have thought off and on about the jws for years.
my little sister brenda converted about 30 years ago and raised two sons in the truth as she called it.
one boy, mason, is still being raised as a jw (he is 15) and my other nephew, aaron, left the organization on his 18th birthday.

Were you or someone you know sexually molested by a Jehovah's Witness ?
by flipper indue to the fact there are about 27,000 members of this religion that are known pedophiles, and the information about it is kept in a secret database file, i wonder how many lurking jw's as well as others are aware of the severity of this problem?
remember, it's 27,000 pedophiles that they know about.
what about the thousands that don't get caught?

Sadly, I was a victim by the step-creep. He was an elder. I think I may have told the tale in one of my very first posts. Frankly, what rivaled the repeated rapes was the emotional rape experienced at the hands of the committee at the tender age of 10. The committee decided that because he cried and I didn't and of course the silly rule of two witnesses, that no way could he be guilty. He went on to molest my two younger sisters, and a least one other girl (my babysitter) that I know of. The babysitter was in the same congregation...she was labeled a troublemaker....
Twenty years later this piece of sh*t was df'd for the molestations. That is a long story in itself. But he was reinstated within a year or two and of course does not come with a warning posted to his forehead. Once an abuser, always an abuser. He never got help. All but one of his brothers (all active Jdubs) are molesters as was their father. I think they were all elders at one time or another.
So I get df'd for having a breakdown and not being able to cope with meeting the nazi committee to confess my sins which were done under duress and about 40 different prescription drugs...but that man got a free lunch to rape an unknown quantity of little girls. Am I little bitter? Yes, but I have gotten therapy and I have gotten outta that borganization.

District Conventions
by EAGLES ini hadnt been to a d.c. in about 10 years is it really true that congragations have to sit together now????
whats up with that is it so that the elders can see who's there and who isnt.
that would blow my scam from way back when i would maybe make one half of one day and tell people i made all 4 days.

Ah, the memories...the marriage parade....well, I am ashamed to admit I participated in that. I never had covered mirrors though. I do remember the million seats being saved and having to sit in nosebleed, but I preferred nosebleed...good place for the afternoon nap and it was a little cooler. Of course, there was always that one strange fluorescent bulb up that emitted the strange buzzing sound that you could only hear up there in the clouds....Richmond, VA was really bad for the strange lighting.
Speaking of convention gestapo, I remember when we sold lunch tickets and I was being the good single sister with no life selling the tickets and this gestapo elder was in my line and he asked how I was doing. I replied I was doing so-so...I was having a rough day due to a migraine. He got up in my face and lectured me about how I should be doing awesome since I was in Jah's house and enjoying spiritual feast, blah blah blah. I mean, my god, get a life dude and move it along! I don't miss going to the conventions at all...same old crap presented same old way and people just pushy and unfriendly.
Slightly off-topic, but related....I was at a one-day assembly and this "uber-spiritual" family was doing a little dramatization of actual inspired events in their lives. The teen pioneer daughter was discussing how she wanted to move into the apartment of a sister in the congregation. The sister was single, but not a pioneer and the family encouraged the daughter to rethink the decision because "you know, she is not a pioneer, she works full-time so how spiritual can she be? She may encourage you to not pioneer." Now it was stated that the single sister was at every meeting and helped the pioneer sister out in the service every chance she got. I was, quite frankly, livid by the end of this little "faith building" charade. I went up to CO afterward and told him how upset I was about that whole thing and how dare they state that basicallly if you weren't a pioneer you were crap in the borg. I got the blank stare....everyone else spoke about how encouraging that segment was....I was like "did you listen to what they said?"

One night stands
by Crumpet inhow do you stand on one night stands?
and why?
i was really against them and said i never would again.

FreeGirl2006
I have not had a one night stand per se. I had some mind-blowing, incredible sex all night long with a wonderful guy on our first date and we have been unable to connect since due to schedules and because his father took a turn for the worse with cancer. I am hoping this week will break that dry spell. I really am just interested in the sex to be honest....he is sweet & funny but our chemistry together is like a never-ending fireworks show and incredibly addictive...it could possibly evolve into something more. I think it is important for a woman to keep her equipment well-oiled and maintained...do what you must or invest in the Rabbit! The best condoms.............Elexa....keep a nice supply on hand. Just some random thoughts on one of my favorite topics.
And Crumpet....I love your comments....I think we would have a lot of fun hanging out together.

How much have you changed since you left the JWs..........
by fifi40 inthe reason that i ask this question is for two reasons mainly.. firstly, my experience as a jw and within the various congregations i was part of, was that they were a very mixed bag.
there were those who were very devout, studious and appeared to be very humble and placid in nature.
there were those that were very judgemental of others.

I am no longer 1)depressed 2)judgmental 3)unhappy.
I feel like I am in the sun after a long, cold, dark winter. Frankly, I wouldn't go back for a gazillion dollars. I love life now! It is a refreshing change to the first 34 years of my life. I replaced my "family" who dropped me when I needed them most with some friends who truly are closer than brothers (sisters). When my friends don't hear from me one day...I get a call or visit....I missed a year's worth of meeting due to serious illness with nary a word from the "true christian brotherhood"...definitely a marked contrast.

I had three different men come to the door completely naked. Unfortunately for me, not one of them was attractive . I just looked 'em in the eyes and finished my presentation...it took a lot more than that to intimidate me (dobermans for instance).
Another time, a friend and I got trapped at the door by a llama. We gave it some chewing gum to distract it so we could get back to the car.....well that is enough wandering down this memory lane...thank god I have better things to do with my time now.

Would you have married a non JW
by JH inwhen you were a good active jw, would you have considered marrying a non jw or was this completely out of the question..

Proph,
Funny you say that you never measured up because frankly I never measured up to the "brothers" standards...I was too much my own person even though I was raised in the truth and I never hesitated to voice my opinions. A relationship within the borg was doomed! I really tried hard to be the picture perfect sister, but pioneering was not for me, dressing in boring clothing was not for me, acting like a stepford wife...not for me and all the bros I met were looking for that. Now, I am grateful to be able to meet some normal healthy men who just want...normal healthy woman and dating has taken on a whole different tone.
Sorry your marriage experience outside the borg didn't work out, but perhaps with a non-cult outlook it will be much better next time. :) I don't see how many borg marriages last anyway!

Prophecor...love your honesty:
I, too, know had I married JW, I would have made a disaster out of some sisters life as well as my own, even more than had she been not.
If only that attitude had prevailed in the Borg....guess that is why your out...you have a conscience!

I went out with a non-dub at age 18 and we talked about getting married, but I just couldn't do it...too much pressure to conform. I then married the requisite jerk dub after doing what passes as dating in dubland for an agonizing 11 years. Now that I am out, I have yet to meet any ex-dub people in the flesh. When I first started dating I thought it would be nice to date an ex-dub because he would understand where I have been (in dub-hell), but I don't think it matters really. I do have some high standards when it comes to men and that at least weeds out a good portion of them right off the bat. I just want some semblance of normal from whomever I date...no weird cult ideas shaping the direction of our lives. I know I would not marry a dub again and I am not even sure about the marry part, but maybe marriage is totally different outside the Borg...at least I sure hope so or what is the point?
